This is the best way to deliver video game news.

"A Grown Man In His Underwear Tells You About Destiny"

This is why I stopped buying stuff off Craigslist...

Posted by SpikeDelight

Is anyone else getting intermittent audio cutouts?

Posted by Snakepond

Boring. Where's the hands on game play videos Bungie? That's what the reviewers and consumers want. Not a company tour of your facility. What a waste of time.

"So what do we do since we can't seem to write a good story??"

"Meh, we'll just have the players do that part..."

...seriously nobody can just write good stories for games anymore. Probably the reason why there are so many shallow 10% single player, 90% multiplayer games on the market nowadays.

To be fair, it's ridiculously difficult to write a good story, let alone in a video game. Books, TV shows, and movies can basically take you from one important event to the next, making it seem better than it probably is, but video games have to have a lot of filler in between the events.

All in all, though, I already have Borderlands, so if Bungie just makes that with a lobby/town, then no thanks.

I love the title of this video so much. One of the many reasons why GB is so great.

Sounds like they're making Space Borderlands. But with cosmetic armor and an always-online component.

Isn't regular Borderlands "Space Borderlands?"

Posted by tindrum

I wonder if Bungie is being so adamant about not bringing this to PC because Activision doesn't want it to interfere with Blizzard's next MMO (which was rumored to be some sort of FPS)?

Posted by Tesla

I like the concept, hopefully they can deliver.

Posted by DjDonFrancisco

Destiny sounds like a game. Yup. Check out that concept art guys.

I knew that Jeff is a prophet. Though never would have guessed that predicting the future requires one to be withouth pants.

On a more serious note. No pc version? Shame on you Bungie.

Posted by paulwade1984

I've heard this game described by bungie in the press release after the leak as a more juvenile halo.

Halo for for kids if you will.

So an MMO for kids. count me out.

Also the presentation of Bungie employee's in those pictures... Is Bungie a fucking modelling agency? wtf is that shit?

Looks really cool, it will be a real shame if it's not on PC.

Some other outlets are reporting that they are all but admitting that it will be on PC. I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

I wonder if they could be doing the Battlefield 2 thing, where the console and PC versions were very different - but in this case maybe the PC version will be the same game that PS4/362 will get, and remains unannounced because these consoles are.

Or maybe it's just not, you know, coming to the PC. The assumptions in the Penny Arcade article are a bit beyond ridiculous. It could be that Bungie are intent on controlling the experience to such a degree that they are not interested in releasing the game on the PC, or that Activision sees some overlap with Blizzards own MMO market dominance and would rather that there be no competition between these two potential behemoths.

If it was coming to the PC why would they just not go ahead and say so? If an obvious next generation game like Watchdogs and Star Wars 1313 can say High End PC, there is no reason not to just say it is coming to the PC, unless it's just not.

A very PC design sounding game on console, interesting. Like the idea, can't see me getting into a shooter like this on console though.

Posted by Jackel2072

I would not put too much stock in this game coming out for the Xbox or PS3. More like activison will take the temptress of the room at the time and see if its worth porting. Also I have zero faith in there being a PC version of this game.

I really enjoy this take on video preview coverage and think this could be a format fit for semi-regular installments (unfortunate audio issues aside).

As for the game: looks like it has its well-earned place among all the other pathetic PR stunts in gaming. If the game (or franchise) really is being developed with 10 years of sustainability in mind announcing it now for PS3 and 360 only is fucking crazy. Let alone completely ignoring (and mildly dissing) the one platform uniquely fit for this sort of grand scale. They waited for years, why not let the next gen console conspiracies run their course and start marketing after that's done?

Therefore, at this point, I have no choice but to just cynically assume the few speculations we do have are sugar-coating and meaningless hype. The "always online" function is just DRM (since the scale in any given scenario simply cannot be huge on current consoles, it will be focussed on Halo coop yet again). "No subscription fees" translates to: we don't need them since we're going to exploit micro transactions and become even richer. The huge universe that'll be updated for a fucking decade simply translates to Activision-style yearly products.

Obviously as a fan of Halo 1-3 cooperative popcorn fun I hope my cynicism is just a reaction to a shit publicity stunt. Next time I'm going to pay attention to Destiny is when the new consoles are out and/ or a PC version actually transpires.

@fminus: I'm pretty sure they were talking about the Destiny 'franchise' or universe, and not this specific game.

I can't imagine them still supporting the current generation of consoles in ten years time.... Would they allow people to continue their progress when they switch to newer platforms? Cause if it doesn't that's just fucked.

I also like the 10 year plan until you realize they're talking about a game on a console, lol. The fact of the matter is - no PC version, no chance of surviving even 2 years let alone 10 and by survival I mean a player base that doesn't consist of 50 people.

Reminds me of Dust 514 or whatever that thing was/is. PS3 only connected to EVE, haven't heard a word since ages about that game, whilst if it was on PC I bet it would be a different story.

Look at that, Bungie is making another futuristic shooter with focus on MP that looks somewhat similar to Halo. I'm shocked. Honestly, the concept art looks great (I was somewhat intrigued up to that point) but then they showed those gameplay snippets and my interest in this instantly dropped through the floor. Also, the way Bungie is presenting the game (and itself) is pretty cringeworthy.

Posted by mORTEN81

Haha. Imagine if you didn't know Destiny was a game, and just read the headline as is. Good thing the game's not called The Meaning of Life.

I am so stoked for another online multiplayer FPS. We haven't had one for a while.

So, instead of a ring we have a sphere now, amazing!

+1 to the voices complaining about noise gate issues.

Good video though. Sounds like Bungie really jerked around the press with this trip...

My initial impressions of Destiny, when they were showing those slightly animated concept stills, was that this game had a really cool and fresh look to it. I thought THAT was the in-engine style of this game, a painterly looking FPS, and that seemed kinda cool.

Then they showed snippets of the actual game running, and all that went away. It looks just like a Bungie FPS from my POV. Not that that is necessarily a bad things, it's just that I can tell that the house that built Halo, built this game too. I was hoping that they might try to distance themselves from the Halo art style with this game, apparently not so much.

That really seems to happen all the time, where a game would greatly benefit by looking more like its concept art. I remember Donkey Kong Country Returns having mind-blowing concept art, but it clearly didn't cross over into the final product (not that it looks bad, but it could look better).

Must be something about the transition into 3D actual models that does it, but there are some games here and there that pull it off (Okami) and I'd love to see more of them.

Posted by eloj

Also love absolutely no WiiU mention. It's next generation, isn't it? NO!

Given that it's released, it's by definition not "next generation".

pipeline is such a pretentious business word, it'd make sense for investors to know "we are working." just dumb to tell that to reporters.

In the context of an "asset pipeline" it's just as much a technical term, and far from a pretentious one.

"I need to debug our texture pipeline, something is fucking up alpha" vs "we've got some fantastic titles in our pipeline"

Posted by fiberpay

It's weird that Gametrailers got to see it but Jeff didn't.

This is going to be long and drawn out series of trailers with people overly analyzing screenshots. If it's even going to be up par with borderlands, then it's a tremendous waste of time.

Posted by fiberpay

Man... they flew in a bunch of journalists to see a press event that contained a some loosely defined ideas of things that may or may not be in the game and some concept art? This is press release stuff, Bungie. You make a website for this sort of thing. You don't need to pull out all the razzamatazz until you've got something for realsies to show, yeah? No?

Nope some game journo's actually got to see the game running. Check out gametrailers.

Posted by JoeyRavn

Can I be honest? I can't feel excited about Destiny. At all. Everything they say about it sounds extremely self-aggrandizing, but generic. And no PC version (more than probably)? Yeah, good luck, Bungie. I'm sure you'll sell copies like crazy, but not to me.

Posted by PoisonJam7

@marekkpie: I was about to ask this too. I think it's the video.

Okay. I now know that I don't personally care about this game.
