Setting reminds me of FFXIII just cause of that sphere city.
so activision is definitely going to try to make yearly installments of this game right
MMO? Meh.
No PC? *sigh*
Next thing you know it's gonna have a monthly subscription... Or even worse: free-to-play.
For 360 and PS3? Jeff just fuck up and say that or what? That seems really weird to put this out on last gen systems esp when its supposed to be a long term IP. This whole lack of info on games for next gen systems is just weird regardless. Nothing shown, consoles in 8 months.
Jeff is so interesting to listen to. Destiny's reveal is simultaneously exciting and disappointing for me; exciting because it looks and sounds pretty awesome, disappointing because we saw very little of the actual game and know very little about it.
Anyone else have some weird audio feedback? I'm guess that might be jeff's mic?
Does Bungie really think they are NOT making an MMO? Are they really inventing something new here?
Wow, all that audio clipping out left me with more questions than answers at certain points :/
Am I the only one that no longer plays shooters on consoles?
I play them sparingly, but yeah most games are now best on PC.
Anyone else have sound issues towards the end of the video? Looks like a pretty interesting game though.

23 minutes in the video player crashed, your mic cut out like 10+ times before that. im glad i went to IGN for the coverage first.
your post history is DELICIOUS.
Sounds like Team Fortress 2 with a gun free hub.
- Class based FPS
- Co-op mode
- Hats!

It does sound interesting but it sounds like it should be a PC game.
I'd like to try it out at some point though.
If i were showing my game, i'd want people to know how fun it is.
LOOK AT THIS AWESOME THING, instead of the opposite.
If they waste time releasing this on PS3 and xbox360, but not PC, they are crazy. At the end of the cycle ever MONTH makes those consoles more and more obsolete. PC on the other hand is where you have a nice long tail, perfect for a product you intend to support for a good while.
That said, the last Bungie game I played was Myth, so what do I know.
A bunch of worries. PS3 and 360? They're already hemorrhaging their potential right there if that's what they're launching on. Designed as a console shooter and not PC? I still really cannot handle shooters without a mouse and keyboard. Published by Activision? I can't imagine the consumer not getting screwed over in some fashion.
But what they're promising does sound cool, and I've never actually played a Halo game before. It's a shame they didn't actually show you anything substantial. I've been lucky to go to E3 the last few years and more and more they're just showing staged demos that I could have just watched online from the comfort of my own home (in my underwear).
Its a strange new generation we are about to enter; insomniac games appearing on 360 and Bungie games appearing on PS3. Here is hoping future games from both of these studios will be making their debut on PC sometime as well.
I only hope it's less pwahaha uuuuurgh than what Halo has turned into.
I love me good scifi but it's like we need Europe or Asia to get it done proper these days.
Yes I'm picky.
As someone who just doesn't "get" why Halo is so beloved, never really enjoyed console style shooters, and is pretty much done with FPSs in general, this isn't terribly exciting.
Ah well, I suppose that Bungie going back to making strategy games was a pretty unlikely scenario.
who wants to take bets when this generates a "paltry" 2 or 3 million in revenuei activision closes bungie down or relegates them to making COD maps?
They can't actually close them down. They're not a 2nd party studio. Bungie will just leave and go somewhere else to publish.
Also, greatest video title in a while. had me bussin out laughing before even playing it.
I am AMAZED Jeff didn't mention PSO/PSU while describing Destiny, as that was the only game I kept thinking about the entire time.
Or Borderlands with MMO like hubs.
Oh hey, an FPS with required internet connection. CLEARLY not made for the PC then!
What the hell? This kind of game would be perfect for the PC. FPSs generally play best with a keyboard and mouse, and practically every computer is connected to the interwebs at all times.
Yea Jeff it sounds ambitious like Planetside 2, Dust 514, Defiance, and MAG.
It's nothing like those examples though. At no point did they say anything about massive online multiplayer scale and scope. You can bet that is not what they're going for.
Bungie is creating a more persistent FPS universe, and a more social community - for maximum player retention over their 10 year business plan and maximum monetization...
Selling rad fucking helmets and shoulderpads.
They plan to work on this for the next 10 years, yet they announce it for PS3 and 360, two consoles soon to be defunct.
I don't think you get it.
Destiny isn't ONE game. It's the universe Bungie plans to set their next couple of games in, and it will likely have presistent parts, that carry over from game to game - like your character.
I'm curious if this'll actually end up being a series of games that begins on current gen consoles or if they plan to release a game on next gen consoles and expand upon it through dlc/patching or MMO-esque expansion packs. I'm especially curious if they plan on taking the latter route on consoles.
Hey. Your volume on all the video content on the site is a little low. Do you think you could normalize it to 0db? Thanks!
This has potential to be really generic. Almost closed the tab when I heard "Multiplayer Focused FPS".
You had me at "there will be magic powers."
Edit: Time travelling robots you say...
Did the assets come with a handwritten note that said, "call me XOXO"?
Seriously though, this sounds like Dust 514. However, I'm not being a Debbie Downer like everyone else in the comments - it doesn't really matter what the core gameplay is like (aside from "good"); what matters is how they handle their 10-year idea. If they can build an evolving narrative over a decade, that will be revolutionary enough.

This shit is maddening and everything that has to be frustrating about being in the game press. "COME SEE OUR MAGNIFICENT NEW GAME'S UNVEILING!!", and then you have to sit through a shit ton of concept art and promises. I want to say that I would have just walked out after telling Bungie to "Fuck off.", but then again, I don't have to represent a website. I feel for Jeff on this.
Wow all this lack of information is really making me so hype for this multiplayer shooter that isn't on PC for some reason!
