How can I use this hack on dolphin pc? windows

Posted by Taku128

Does anybody know of a way to play this on a PAL Wii?

If you have an NTSC copy and hacked your Wii to get rid of the region lock that will work, but otherwise they haven't provided a way to play this with PAL Wiis. There are "unofficial" ways to get the mod running with a ripped version of the NTSC game, but I don't know how and it's pretty sketchy legally, regardless of if you actually own any version of the game or not.

I'm glad you wrote a blog post about project M. It is truly a great mod. The creators are very passionate about it and it's nice to have a smash game made that actually takes competitive play in mind. The balance is in a solid place right now and I like the vast majority of character designs. It really feels like a smash 4 and is a ton of fun to play.

It is great to see the game getting bigger from competitive players and non competitive players alike.

Well sir, your blog's gotten me excited enough to get off my ass and download this.

Updated the blog because Version 3.01 was released, which finally adds support for SD and SDHC cards higher than 2GB! This version also adds several bug fixes and a couple of new features.

The lack of PAL support is a huge bummer, I've seen people in a few other places mention it. Now that the mod is more or less done (they've said they want to do one more significant revision before they consider it complete) hopefully they'll start working on a PAL version of the patch. It really sucks that at the moment the only way for Europeans and Australians to play the mod is to either import or pirate an NTSC copy.

It's super neat that people have managed to do something like this, but I've never really cared much about the game. It was a really fun casual game for the original and melee, but I never thought it felt all that competitive.

not going to lie when I admit, this is odd. Half the time I keep imagining this is going to be a Mugen port of including something silly, still the balancing makes a lot of sense to me.... and I completely dislike Smash Bros.

But seriously, when will Nintendo really bring the hammer down on this? They tend to be especially hard on the whole Mother fanbase who keeps translating roms.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a feeling that Nintendo isn't going to let this fly.

This project has been going on for a while. I'd think that Nintendo would want to shut this down ASAP, but for some reason they haven't. Don't see why they would get a C&D now (other than to clear out any opposition for SSB Wii U near its release).

This mod and Super Mario Bros. Crossover are the two odd exceptions that Nintendo is completely fine with for some odd reason.

Just have to wait and see.

Nintendo is one of the big companies who's striking down videos one youtube that contain sound from their games. Who knows it could be an over zealous algorithm but I'm just going to be skeptical about this.

This game is really great, and I love how popular it's getting. My favorite aspect from a casual perspective is that when they say "balance" they really mean "we made all the characters disgustingly good". Sakurai's team has the annoying habit of taking the good to decent characters from the previous game and weakening them, when really it should be the opposite. Link, Ness, Kirby, Bowser and all those consistently terrible Smash Bros characters finally have a chance to win.

Now all this mod needs is a wiki page.

I really want to install a Dolphin Emulator on my PC to try this out. I would have to get an adapter and some Gamecube controllers though.

@taku128: No problem. The biggest problem with Brawl (aside from you lunatics who just want it to Melee+) was the abysmal online and since it'd be completely unreasonable for anyone to fix the netcode to be not literally the worst thing I don't really view this any higher than I view the NSMB level packs.

I bet this hack even takes out tripping.

Random tripping is out, tripping as a mechanic is not. Diddy still has his banana peels and is very centered around using them to set up trips for combos.

@taku128: Eh, I was mostly joking. I just had a bad experience with someone once that was a total ass and we got into an argument over Brawl where all he could say was that it was unbalanced without giving any reasons as to why.

This thing actually seems pretty cool, even as someone who likes Brawl (regular-ass Brawl) more than Melee.

I could tell you were joking, but I do want people to actually read the blog post and see some things they're interested in before reading anything about balance. I guarantee somebody out there would legitimately have that kind of reaction if they saw anything that insinuated Brawl wasn't the most balanced game, and then just stop reading there. Most people on both sides of the fandom are great, but there are both casual and competitive style players who will insist their style is the only way to play and ignore any argument from the other side. I typed all of those words with the hopes people would read them, so I want to avoid anything that seems like I'm taking a specific side.

I don't have any problems with Brawl, I just liked Melee better and thus enjoy a lot of the changes Project M makes. I know the kind of person you're talking about, and it's exactly why I want to avoid anything that sounds like that kind of person said it.

I don't think that the issue is people that like Brawl so much as the people that swear by Melee, think Brawl is garbage, and only play on Final Destination with items turned off. Those are the people that I can't stand, and presumably, the crowd Project M was designed for.

If Project M was only designed for those people Mewtwo and Roy wouldn't have Final Smashes, and they wouldn't have bothered to port stages like Saffron City from Smash 64. The primary intention is to appeal to those people but there's plenty of stuff to appeal to the more casual players. And all the alternate costumes they spent time modeling would be pointless since that stuff doesn't matter to that kind of player.

And I don't see why people who slam casual play are awful but people who slam competitive play are fine. Why can't both player bases just exist in harmony? Plenty of competitive players enjoy playing Smash casually as well.

It's not the idea of competitive play that's the issue. It's the attitude that the competitive community brings to the game. I've been around some truly obnoxious Melee players that started whining if any of the items were turned on, as though they expected the more casual players to conform to their supposedly superior mode of play. These guys embodied the stereotype of the asshole Melee pro. By contrast, if the casual players are seen as complainers at all, it's likely that they're complaining that the competitive crowd is egging them into playing a stripped-down Melee.

So with this and the new Smash Bros coming out in 2014, the competitive community is split 4-way. Maybe that will finally do the trick.

I think the same way about project M and I have played competitive smash some time.

Though it is better to play if all you have available is Brawl since Brawl is terrible. If you have Melee available you should play it over M.

I'm getting a new copy of Brawl just for this. Roy and Mewtwo were my favorite Smash characters, and now I can own my friend with them? Hell yes.

Edited by MormonWarrior

I need to try this out. I've got friends that are way into Melee and Brawl and seeing them mashed up like this would be cool.

I was all ready to come in here and dismiss this mod as the work of insane people who think that Super Smash Bros is a game that should be played competitively, but instead I'll say this looks like exactly what I'd want out of crazy people with too much time on their hands. That's a compliment.

Edited by Taku128

@scullinator: Yeah, it works on Wii U. Same install processes as the Wii version too, so you don't even need to hack your Wii U.

Posted by Scullinator

Will this mod work on the Wii U as well? Same way? I was happy waiting till next year for the new Smash to come out but this makes me want to go and pick up a used copy of Brawl on the cheap and check this out.

Posted by SecondPersonShooter

I got invited to a tournament for the celebration of the release of this that my friends are hosting, and honestly I am psyched as fuck.

I guess this would be an appropriate thread to say I consider Super Smash Bros Brawl to be my GOTY, or at least the game I put the most time into.

King Dedede for life motherfuckers.

Hmmm damn, I think the only SD cards I have are SDHC, hopefully that fix will be coming soon.

Also when I saw this video a while ago of the changes, those Samus buffs seem OP!

It is nice that Snake finally has a gun, instead of being this weird demolitions expert like he was in regular Brawl. I'm still not sure if that was an ESRB Teen rating thing, or just a Nintendo mandate. But seriously, Snake without guns, but with a million rocket launchers, mines, and grenades was kind of silly.

Still, I can't be bothered to check this out, for the same reason that I wouldn't be super jazzed if someone made a definitive version of Perfect Dark that had all the shitty maps and samey weapons that people like from GoldenEye. Not trying to diss Melee or Brawl specifically, I just think that, like GoldenEye, Smash Bros. had its time and I'm probably done with it. I am dissing GoldenEye, though.

Thank you for pointing this out, I tried to avoid any language that would cause people to irrationally flip out but I guess mentioning balance at all is a no-no. This has been rectified.

I have the now previous version of project M. While I don't particularly care about the physics or game balance either way, I love being able to customize the experience. There's a lot of amazing stuff out there for the characters/stages, and having the ability to put my own selection of great video game and/or pop music in the game is probably my favorite feature of the game. Definitely gonna download the updated version once finals are over.

100% agree, even if the balance or physics don't matter to you Project M is still a ton of fun. I'm always a bit confused when people get openly hostile about anyone who expresses their dislike of Brawl or preference for Melee, because even if a game is more balanced it doesn't mean you can't have goofy fun with it. Melee had a high skill ceiling for those that cared, but even if you didn't it was still a ton of fun.

My brothers and I will be playing it a bunch this weekend. :-) I had to order a new SD card because the 512MB SD card doesn't fit it now that they've added a bunch of stuff.
