@kevinski:
I never really got to use the Ice axe outside of, like, two times, cuz I got the Gretoch pretty early on.  So I can't really compare those...

But the range is pretty damn big. One swing can take out  4 zombies at a time if you use it at the right place/with proper timing. There's also the little advantage of the Melee weapons having effin high attack power. Most zombies died inbetween 1-3 hits in my playthrough.

Seeing Brad unload 1/3 of an entire infinite SMG clip for one zombie (and this happens often) just blows my mind

I know. I honestly feel they're doing a bit of a disservice to this game by making it seem like they have no choice(even though they have many, many options to make the combat easier and faster). I also don't think the way Vinny plays is much better, the way he carefully peeks through every corner as if a giant dog will burst through every wall and eat York. Also, Brad has the advantage of not being OCD about killing every single enemy he sees.

Brad: *turns around and runs right into zombie*

Interesting note, there was no Japanese voice work for this game. It was just subtitled in Japanese.

I disagree as far as comparing Brad and Vinny. Just look at the sheer number of times that Brad gets attacked toward the beginning of the police station. He gets attacked and "retreats" right into the middle of a bunch of zombies or completely ignores zombies that attacked him from behind in favor of unloading more bullets into the zombie immediately in front of him, getting attacked AGAIN from behind. Vinny's strafing around corners isn't so much annoying as it is funny, because it's as though he's expecting a first-person shooter approach to work. I think that strafing slows you down too much, personally, also making it very awkward to retreat.

Yeah, but buying the damn thing from Playasia is $80... The lowest I saw it was for $60 on some import site (but I didn't bother checking availability), and eBay has a few for around $50. I would honestly consider the eBay prices if I didn't play 75% of the game before my 360 felt like not working anymore :(

How do they not know that the Japanese version of Deadly Premonition is in ENGLISH!!!

Posted by xdan0x

I  imagine if you're a games developer and brad shows up to preview/review you game you'de be pretty gutted.

Posted by Milkman

You people are still bitching about Brad's playing? I thought we were past that.

Ryan's newest persona strikes again (the Saucepan Man).

I didn't know that either...  So you're saying that DP was originally voiced in English by the Japanese developer?

I just wish he could riff more with Ryan.  I feel like I'm cheating when my favorite part of this episode is when Vinny and Jeff show up. :[ "
Just a thought, is it possible after being incessantly ripped a new one in the comments day after day that Brad's motivation level for riffing with Ryan in a way that entertains everyone might be pretty well zero?

Would yours?

I know I would be feeling that way. Playing day after day, trying to be funny at the same time and having everyone I'm attempting to entertain treat me like crap would probably result in me getting pissed off and intentionally blowing things off, making obvious 'mistakes' and just generally doing what I could to enrage the ungrateful sods watching.

But that's just me, I'm sure Brad is above inflicting such things on said posters....?

My favorite part of the ep is the conversation at the end. A nice heart-warming peek into the Giant Bomb family.

It honestly felt like they handed the controller to a below-average gamer who has never played DP before and BR just did the commentary on top of said player.

Bravo sir. Bravo.

Man, I'm starting to feel bad for Brad and Ryan. They finally got a chance to start really enjoying the game last episode, but then Deadly Premonition had to go and snatch all traces of joy away from them. This really is an effective horror game, in a sense. Keep fightin, BR.

My friend has the Japanese version of Deadly Premonition on PS3 and all the spoken dialogue is in English.

Not really pretend to be bad, rather suggesting a person who gets pounded on constantly might have a real drop in motivation to try their best.  When people are just going to rip you anyway, and your job really isn't contingent on how well you play in an Endurance Run, contrary to what lots of folks seem to believe, a reasonable person might just say, "The hell with them" and just do what everyone is accusing you of doing anyway.

Why bother busting your butt?  Give the haters something to really hate on, and get a little satisfaction for yourself by sticking a thumb in their collective eyes.

After the continuous drumbeat of insults all over the site, I would if I were in Brad's position.  And I suspect you would too, mutha3.

I genuinely don't understand why the only thing some people can come out with when they are at a keyboard is destructive.  It is so bad that if you wish to praise someone you literally have to qualify it to make it clear it isn't meant sarcastically.  That is twisted.

And so much of it is not genuine, not sincere, just what too many believe to be the necessary tone to post.

Gaming sites are the worst of all.  Why?  It's not necessary and it has nothing to do with what is supposed to be a recreational and fun activity.  So where does all the viciousness come from?

If this is what some people are becoming as a result of gaming they need to find another activity instead and fast.  Boxing, hunting, shooting, anything that bleeds off all the vitriol that seems to get spilled all over this site and others are good options.  Engage in some genuine "tough guy" activities rather than just being keyboard ninjas.

Right now it's aimed at Brad.  But we all know it will soon be someone or something else soon.  But it is always there and it's always needlessly destructive.  It's such a waste.

Lotsa Japanese games are in English with Japanese subtitles.

The Japanese fuckin' love western culture and shit, I don't know if you noticed.

Also I think that Brad being bad at video games is sort of like a carpenter who can't work with wood. It's a very strange thing to see people being paid to do things and talk about things that they are not actually good at, and I think a lot of people probably resent it. They probably think that they could do better. But they would be wrong because they would not have Brad's dulcet tones.

And to be completely fair to poor Brad, Vinny and Jeff and Ryan are all pretty bad at video games, particularly at recognizing common design decisions and direction. Giant Bomb is honest about it though, unlike pretty much any other video game website on the internet these days.

Your zombie apocalypse survival skills are a bit weak Brad :)
Although I do wonder what sound you guys here when you are playing (as we players probably hear a direct feed). Because sometimes you can clearly hear where a zombie is (or is near). Ow and you do use a map in the outside but not on the inside levels? As I said, when it comes to survival skills (smart tactics I sometimes call them) you could use some help. That said however I do have more faith in you guys writing good reviews as you guys really play a game as if it was your first game :)

i love brad everyone needs to chill out. i think its funny as he blunders around the game, makes it more tense.

They should rename this episode to "How Not to Play Video Games".

It also depresses me how quick Brad and Ryan are to blame the game when almost all the time it's their own idiocy that causes them issues.

Funny how they also turn into Dumb & Dumber when trying to figure out the oh-so complicated inventory system that spells out exactly how much of everything you can carry right there on the fucking screen.

Posted by warmonked

is it horrible that the sole thought I have during these endurance runs is that I hope Brad dies so I can hear him get flustered and defensive about not sucking at games.

yes, because you also should have thought that watching him die would be funny as well.
ryan's frustration/laughter everytime Brad messes up is awesome.

I just realized that at no point in this game do you ever meet the Mayor or whatever of Greenvale, just a handful of cops and a random assortment of townspeople, plus the local rich eccentric. Strikes me as odd.

I guess this is the last BR episode I'll watch. I can't get through that many in a row without VJ intervals. The best part of this episode was Vinny's cameo.

Posted by IceTrey87

this episode is so lulzworthy.  You know there's an item count both in inventory and in the toolbox.  And every single weapon says exactly how much damage it does per shot.  The Sheriff Custom is medium, the FBI Custom is low.  There are different enemy types, some have high hp, some have low.  Emily was fighting the most basic enemies in the clock tower.

Doesn't change the fact that the pistol was terrible.

These comments are like a train wreak, I know the obsessive need to tear into Brad over and over aharon will pass me off, yet I read most of them.

Does Brad shoot himself in the foot with this game? Yes, which is exactly why I watch b and r before j and v. All of them are a bout slow on the uptake with this game, and have me talking at the screen. But I enjoy them and am sad I'm almost at the end with both.

.........the english va makes me tempted to import the ps3 version. I'm slow enough at translating to not make me want to do it for all the voice, but between subtitles which are easy enough to deal with, and the voice sometimes being loud enough to hear....

Its not like I'm going to get a 360 anytime soon

"Expectations are premeditated resentment." Ryan Davis, you are a goddamn philosopher.

Edited by MrBubbles

OH MY GOD i was screaming at the screen saying their toolbox wasn't completely full it was just the space for the shovel that was full and that you can put melee weapons away and still pull out ranged weapons and that the magnum does more damage than the sheriff custom (which also has a higher damage rating than the FBI pistol) and that different enemies have different amounts of health i was also screaming to look at the bottom right corner of the screen while at the put items away screen to see how many weapon slots they have.
