Thanks, Jeff, for saying that there are no arcade releases at the start of the video.  That way I don't have to watch the whole thing, 'cause I could quite honestly give a fuck about 2600 or Intellivision games.

Edited by Levio

Did people play these games even when they were new?  That hockey game looks like complete garbage now, but even back when there were ZERO alternatives, I cannot imagine playing that game for any amount of time.

Did Jeff just beat Brad's record for quickest death in a Quick Look?

Posted by Redbullet685

I bet if Jeff didn't buy every game, Game Room would be dead.

Posted by Yummylee

Yay! More shit.

Posted by anarchcorp

Am I the only one that noticed that ,at the point of this quick look, Giantbombing had the top two spots on the leaderboard for Dolphin?

Posted by kerikxi

So when do we get to start the betting pool on when Game Room flat out dies?

If they couldn't justify keeping 1vs100 running, I doubt this will last much longer.

back to the future

@kerikxi:  I think the only reason this is still around is that it costs so little money to implement, and can make a decent bit of scratch in return.  1v100 was a pretty monumental effort and MS didn't get nearly enough return for it.

SO shitty.

Posted by DBoy

I used to play INtellivision's Ice Hockey and to through the Stanley Cup Finals with my friends. Man, such good memories.

Posted by kerikxi
@YukoAsho: I agree, but I still wonder how long it'll scratch out any profit at all. They still have to pay to license all this content.

can't believe I actually got 1000 gamerscore in this

Posted by CornBREDX

Thats a real shame. Only reason I was looking forward to gameroom was the arcade games, maybe the OCCASIONAL old school console game but not so much.

On that point, I'm surprised they released Dolphin. I remember always thinking when Ecco came out how that seemed like it was some kind of successor to Dolphin.

Eh, anyway, another disappointing week
Posted by YukoAsho
@kerikxi: I can't imagine it's costing MS all that much to get these games from the companies involved.

The bigger concern is how much longer they'll have new content coming in.  The 2600 and Intellivision are being bled dry, as evidenced by the ports of arcade games already in Game Room.  At some point, MS is going to run out of games from just these companies in just the pre-crash Era.  We're going to have to move a little further along, or Game Room's existence won't even be enough to justify quick looks.

I'd be jumping for joy if I could buy Imagic's Intellivision games in the Game Room. Activision has the rights to all of Imagic's stuff so I'd love to play INTV's versions of Demon Attack and Atlantis as well as the exclusive Imagic games on that platform.

That was painful...

Is it just me, or was Dolphin hypnotic and kind of cool?

My favorite part of the week is only twelve minutes long this week.

Game Room's definitely in worse shape, in my opinion. I'd much rather have the couple good emulations per month of more recent games than sloppy emulations of even older games.

If a rep from MS was to grab one piece of feedback off the interwebs, please let this be it.

Wow.

Posted by sublime90

i have no intentions of even booting up game room until they get some classic stuff like sega saturn mr bones and dreamcast games.

More bad games for Game Room this week, this is great news!

Posted by Teaspoon83

Man, although I played a lot more Nintendo than Atari... this is my childhood and I it is crazy to think I spent hours playing these games.

Edited by fwylo

Holy fuck these are bad.

Who in the hell at Microsoft is the guy letting this go on.  He needs to die. Now.

yeah but what is there left to put on VC?
Posted by me3639

As someone who played a lot of these titles on their original consoles I have never, or will ever have any desire to replay.

Dolphin is oddly hypnotic.  Maybe it's the echoey sound design.

Eathbound.  Yoshi's Island.  Star Fox.  Any number of Square RPGs.  And that's just on the Super Nintendo.  And don't forget that they recently started the Virtual Console Arcade section, and there are only like six games in there.  Yeah there's a great lineup, but there's a lot they can still put on there.

I'm thinking now that Virtual Console is no longer profitable for some reason.  But it can't cost that much to put old stuff up there, can it?  I mean, they have to pay somebody to make sure everything's emulated right, to make their virtual manuals, and then to get the games ESRB rated, but surely that can't cost THAT much, right?

So I'm a little drunk, but there were two take-aways from this quick look:
Dolphin's sound design reminded me of Rez, in that every action, power-up, or what have you had made a sound on beat.
Also, Brad and Jeff being painfully bored playing Hockey was one of the funniest quick look moments since Ryan belittling Vinny while screwing up in Wipeout.

Yeah, the music in Dolphin has a really weird, almost interactive sound about it.  Is it the first example of a dynamic soundtrack?
Posted by HansKaosu

They need to start releasing sega games or something instead of this crap.

Posted by Zachariahus

ahhhhh.... poor jeff.

Posted by dantebk

This is my favorite part of the show.

Posted by Dooops

ROFL ---> as the Canadian laughs at Jeff: "Is that a foul?"  Brad "When do we get to fight?" LOL
Posted by S0ndor

Looks like complete f'in garbage.

Posted by TigerDX

Is it just me or does the pitch of the background sound in Dolphin give you a clue as to where to go through the seahorses?

@TigerDX: I think you are right. Nice catch!

Oh dude, so Dodge 'Em is the inspiration for that Daxter mini-game from Jak 3, cool.

Oh the carefree life of a Dolphin.

I own Dodge 'Em. Like, the actual cart.

I think these Game Room segments serve as a reminder of why the evolution of gaming is a good thing.
