More Spiderman and Transformers games. Awesome.

It was only a matter of time before they stopped with GH. How many more CoDs do they have in them before that franchise needs to "take a break" too? I'm guessing 3 to 4 if they don't change it up soon, and adding a subscription service is not the change I'm looking for.

 I don't think i ever expect it to be jaw-droppingly good, but just so you know, True Crime: HK is the game I've been waiting for half my life. 
 
I've been living in HK almost all my life, and after my first exposure to GTA, i was always hoping there was an open-world game based in that exciting city. Screw New York, there's already too much games based there, and I personally don't even know what it is like; True Crime was probably the first ever game to actually base a game on something completely different, a game based on something I am actually very familiar with. The first I heard of the game I was disappointed it won't feature the real-life streets, but whatever, as long as I can recognize landmarks and get the hang of the style of the different districts, I'm all cool.
 
True Crime always looked sort of janky in the trailers, but it did look promising. I'm sure there are plenty people who actually look forward to playing somethign completely different. But NO, Kotick, you douche.
 
Seriously, Kotick, as a giant in the gaming industry, have you no shame and guilt? Don't you feel that you have the responsibility to promote different titles and smaller studios, and hope to get a loyal fanbase for that? It's not like ACTIVISION can't fucking support the game development of smaller studios with big ambitions, and not taking the slightest financial risk at all...

Let's be honest, Activision aren't stupid. Many of their decisions may seem stupid and insulting to us, a specific population, but in the sense of they are business out to make as much money as possible, they're golden. "

While I'm glad to see Guitar Hero finally put down, I am really sad that the DJ Hero series died along with it. That series still had some life left in it for a great third game, but now that'll never happen. All that's left is Call of Duty and Prototype and I don't see either franchise lasting for much longer. I'm indifferent on True Crime: Hong Kong, but I sympathize with those who were looking forward to it. At this point, the only Activision game I'm looking forward to now is War for Cybertron 2...until that gets cancelled.

I really wanted to play True Crime. I should have expected this since it has been so long since we heard anything about it.

Without CoD or Blizzard, Activision would tank overnight. Look at the shitacular games they have lined up. A Family Guy game? Is this real life?. On top of that they cancel True Crime: Hong Kong, arguably the only good game in their entire stable of releases. I now herald thee, Craptivision.

Show of hands, who among us, for all the crap we're slinging at Activision for becoming what amounts to "Call of Duty-R-Us," will still be buying the next Call of Duty game when it comes out?  I've never had interest in playing a Call of Duty game, and now I have less interest in Activision products in general, given that any releases I might have had interested in are no longer coming.

GOOD RIDANCE TO CRAP GAMES. Now they need to stop making c o d every year and I might think they like gamers.

Thank god they cancelled those games and franchises so they can focus on Call of Duty which is all I ever want, I don't at all feel like those games are all Call of Duty 4 or that Activision is going to flood the market with them until kill that franchise too.  
 
Oh, and I respect anyone who can cancel several franchises, try to justify that, and then go on to announce half a dozen movie/TV games.

That's a pretty clear statement that what they have repeatedly denied is true: they plan to make their Call of Duty series independent of XBL and PSN, and charge for multiplayer access. He states clearly it is a platform, offering a suite of services. That to me sounds like "pay a WoW-like subscription, we don't charge for map packs or multiplayer access any more".

From some of the things I had read, it seemed like Activision isn't killing the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero franchises, but they are merely taking a break on those until 2012 or after. 
 
Nonetheless, Activision and their milking ways are just bullshit.  They need a new original IP that they will SUPPORT instead of just leaving on the wayside *cough* BLUR *cough*.

I kind of liked the first True Crime and had high hopes for the new one, so it kind of sucks they're just canning it for the sake of Call of Duty. On the other hand music games needed to die pretty much the moment they started churning out artist-dedicated ones to flood the market.

Honestly this sounds like justifiable business decisions with poor business strategy. The strategy is, "We are going to stream line our development to give you more of the same stuff you love, and rid ourselves of the same, old, bland stuff you don't. It's win-win!" What they fail to realize is the keyword SAME. One day, COD and WOW will be bland and not exciting to the market. Their approach seems to be resistant to innovation until the franchise dies, and under their current strategy it will cost them every franchise they own, eventually.

No new DJ Hero makes me a sad panda.
 
At least give us more DJ Hero 2 DLC.. i'm eating that stuff up!!!

Ah shit, I was looking forward to a new True Crime. But hey, pumping more resources into that popular shit heap of a franchise, why not.

It'd be so great if music games all took a few years off so they could come back when people can actually be excited for one again.

Is it just me or does Activision make some really awful games? Why Blizzard got in bed with Activision is beyond me... COD is there only quality product... And even then... Black Ops... Not my favorite that's for sure.

It's clear that Activision is relying solely on the console market to make the most money through the Call of Duty franchise, which isn't good. My fear is that they'll run the series to the ground, as they did with the Guitar Hero franchise, by over saturating the market with too many COD games.   

Activision is an anomaly to me. You would think a company that makes as much as it does off of its popular franchises would be more willing to put out less profitable/mainstream games because they could easily recoup whatever losses those games would have. It confuses and scares me a bit that they only want to focus on their popular franchises. I guess I can understand that they don't want to lose money at all, but surely they have to realize that they can't rely on COD forever right?

Not that I'm surprised...but saddened by the DJ Hero News. Was really the only exciting rhythm game out there to me. Even Rock Band 3 was mostly more of the same. Meh 

Awww :( I was looking forward to that new True Crime game, how can they cancel it after all the previews and videos? A bunch of new screenshots were just released really recently. I hate Activision -.- They have NO good franchises now, and even if you do still like COD or whatever, they're going to run their last remaining franchises into the ground! If they cancel everything that's creative or fresh, who the hell's going to buy their games for much longer?

Looks like Activision is relying heavily on the COD franchise. Not a good idea from a business standpoint. The next couple of years don't look so good for Activision, it will all depend on the success of this new COD subscription experiment.

This would be nice but it's unlikely Take Two will want to invest in another open world game, on top of Mafia 2 and GTA, without guaranteed sales. Although I'd rather see them put out a new True Crime than another Mafia title. "

It's a bit of a mess, but I can't be upset about Guitar Hero, which seems to be getting the most ink in the mainstream press. It was nice for awhile, but they didn't change up the formula enough to keep it moving forward. It deserved to be axed, shredded, and unplugged.

Jesus, didn't think they'd be killing off Guitar Hero any time soon.  They've been over milking it for years but to actually get to the point where there's not even a point in making these games in about 5 years is crazy, I though Guitar Hero and Rock band would be the new Mario vs... well not Sonic.
