Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the 3DS will include retooled Iron Boot controls, item mechanics, and 3D visuals. But did you know it’s also set to feature Master Quest content? That’s in the plans, according to a Nintendo representative speaking to Conservative New Media at GDC 2011.

Master Quest is essentially a B-side version of the core game. No new tools, powers, or art are present in the side content, just new dungeon puzzles and layouts. The Master Quest was first introduced in North America in the GameCube version of the game, but it was originally slated to hit back in the Nintendo 64 generation as a Nintendo Disc Drive option. Those plans, obviously, fell through when the N64DD itself failed to materialize at retail.

I’d like to say that Master Quest sweetens the deal for the 3DS version of the game, but it’s not exactly “new” since it’s already been incorporated in a past US re-release (and as a pre-order bonus). Still, it’s one more reason to dive into OOT 3DS--if you needed another reason, that is.

OOT 3DS is still slated to hit at some point this Summer, while the 3DS hits later this month. Who's going to be there on day one?

Neat.

I really hope Majora's Mask is remade somewhere down the line.

Cool, now if they just re-make Wind Waker for the 3DS...

Posted by DanK_

I'm going to get this.  Just saying.

Posted by Sayishere

Shame its not a 3DS release game, that being said, i still have it on pre order

Posted by OllyOxenFree

Truly, I shall be the Master of Quests.

Posted by keyhunter

There should be an option to skip the water temple. I don't feel like doing that again.

Posted by WJist

I have this Master Quest on GC, but never bothered to touch it. Maybe this will inspire me to go back and play it.

Posted by buft

was this the same thing as the extras on the windwaker gold version for gamecube, i recall two versions of Majoras Mask on the extra disk

If it only worked for the old DS...

Oh, for money.

Not getting the 3DS at launch. I will get it at some point however and when I do I'm going to pick this game up. Always loved OOT and Master Quest was even more awesome and much harder for me.

I know that this will make me sound like a dirty graphics whore with bump mapping down there, but the graphics are enough to make me want this game. Oh, and the fact that I don't have a rating for Ocarina of Time, yet.

Wait, so will the game be the Master Quest version? Or will it be like the original Zelda, and when I beat it I go through a second quest?

I suspect it's more likely that when you hit New Game it'll straight-out ask you if you want to play Original Flavour or Master Quest.

This.

I'm getting the 3DS on day one, but there really isn't anything I'm excited for.  I already have it preordered and figured why the hell not when I saw the release day games.  When Zelda comes out though, that will be an immediate purchase for me.  I've always wanted to replay Ocarina of Time and this gives me the perfect reason to do so.

This is a nice bonus, particularly since not everyone was able to get a copy of the Master Quest back in the day.

Listen!

Master Quest makes the game ever better, fuck yeah!

Also: gief Majoras Mask

So, it's a remake of the GameCube game that was a remake of the N64 game.

More like a remixed version of an N64 game that was ported to the GameCube without upgrades that is being remade along with the original game for the 3DS with actual enhancements this time around.

That is pretty awesome. I love Ocarina of Time but for some reason I never ended up playing much Master Quest so I'm glad to have a reason to go through it.

Posted by solidlife

give me the OOT N64 version aswell. I dont want a tweaked version of the original.

The 3DS is a buy for me...when the second generation of it comes out. That way it will have some nice new features and a more substantial game library. The cupboard is a little thin for my tastes for a while.

Awesome. I never got to play Master Quest on the GameCube, and I was planning to buy Ocarina of Time on 3DS for some reason anyway.

It was actually an emulation, not a remake.

Also, am I the only one who never got that annoyed at Navi? People always go on about how terrible she was, but the first time I played the game she was way more helpful than annoying.

Posted by Garadon
@Crushed: You're not the only one, I didn't find her particularly annoying or anything.

As if the slightly enhanced graphics and the retuned Water Temple weren't enough reasons for a die-hard Zelda fan like me to anticipate Ocarina of Time 3DS, now they have decided to include Master Quest as well? Day one purchase!

@RockmanBionics:  Amazing!

It's the same game we all played 10 years ago. Why anyone would pay for it again is beyond me.
Posted by Nalean

For my 3DS (launch purchase for me also) I'll generally be leaning towards games like Pilotwings, Street Fighter, and Mario Kart (this year, right?) that are better suited for shorter bursts of play.  As a general rule I don't play handhelds for hours on end, and that is typically how I like to experience Zelda games.  This one might be hard to pass on though...

Sick!

I'm the only one I know with the Master Quest... I guess that will change soon!

@Crushed: Same here. I never once found her annoying at all. Like you said she can give you some pretty useful information and it's not when she says "Hey" or "Listen" she completely interrupts everything else in the game world, taking priority.
Posted by MechaDestroyer

I haven't played Ocarina of Time in almost 10 years, since I last beat it.  Maybe I might as well get a 3DS just for this.

Because it's one of the greatest games ever made, and nostalgia is a powerful thing. For me at least, it was a huge part of my childhood, and why wouldn't you want to experience that feeling again, or see something you care about lovingly recreated.

Also there is a whole generation that wasn't even born when it was released, who may now choose to enjoy a classic, remastered for modern audiences who might not be able to digest a game that looks like games did on the 64.

Surely none of that is beyond you?

P.S Try 13 years.
Posted by dungbootle

Sweet, I have even more incentive to pick this up since I never played Master Quest.

Posted by wethebiscuitz

Ocarina of Time in 3D with five times the polygons certainly isn't a bad thing, but damn, it would have been awesome if they had actually thrown in some new items/dungeons/mini-games/quests.

I've had some hands-on at CeBit last week. The game looks great. New textures, better models, etc.

Navi never really bugged me, what really bugged me is Link's hyper-annoying Japanese shouts during various actions. It started with this game and was horribly distracting to me. I can't tell you what a bummer it was for me to pick up the GBA version of Link the the Past - my personal favorite Zelda game - only to find this was even retro-actively now his official voice.

Fast forward 13 years, I just saw footage of Skyward Sword from GDC and I'm so dissappointed to hear Link still sounds that way. Does anybody else feel this way?

Didn't finish Master Quest in the gmecube preorder disk, I guess I'll do it this time.
Posted by BrewLegend

I beat this game in 1998. Maybe Nintendo should come up with some new content.

Posted by Levio

Isn't this already on wiiware?  If so, they're just readjusting the controls and putting it on a portable console, which really isn't that exciting...

Posted by BigPenguin

We'll that's another version of that game I'm going to own... I'm not proud of it, but just can't stop. OoT, I can't quit you.

Posted by ArbitraryWater

Oddly enough, if I were to get a 3DS this would be the thing to sell me. But alas, it's still $250 and I might as well wait for the inevitable hardware upgrade while I'm at it.
