Well I'm happy because PSN didn't support my country at all and only way I could get even demos was to insert false information.

Love how I bought Playstation Plus 3 days before PSN went down.  Weeeeelllll worth my money I see.

Update:  Sony  claims that the credit card security codes aren't stored on the database. However, they also said it wasn't even ask for before... but now " While we do ask for CSC codes, we do not store them in our database."

The worst post for PSBlog:  Does this guy not understand how crazy he sounds?

I imagine this is been a nightmare for you guys. Its sad to hear our personal info wasn’t encrypted as well. But regardless, I just want it back online. I am surprised there is no mention of game content.

1) How will our download history be affected?
2) Trophies. Will these still be intact?
3) Friends list?

Its funny my PS3 YLOD'ed right before this stuff happened. My new PS3 won't get here until probably the first week of May. I hope nothing bad happened to my account though.

wow thats crazy sony missed this one

Posted by TigerClaw

Hopefully they address when PSN will go back online and such.

@Pr1mus:  You said it best guy. This generation Sony has completely dropped the ball. The higher ups are the ones to blame. Sony's E3 this year will be very interesting. This year was looking good for Sony. I'm curious to see how they will bounce back from this. Sad moment for Sony.

Not that I think that this will make info more secure in any way but since Sony is rebuilding PSN, they should let users change their PSN IDs. They're already going to make users change their passwords when they login so why not give the option of a name change while they're at it?

Posted by ruffedgz

This is big... I am concerned and want to change my password and other information so it can't be used ASAP.

I hate to sound djangoistic, but C'MON JAPAN. FIGURE OUT THE INTERNET.

free playstation 3s for all!

Sony is kinda like EA. Great and varied games but their management and PR is a catastrophe. They have all the resource and talented employees they need to dominate like they did in the PS1 and PS2 days but the suits in management just sabotage everything all the time this gen. And now obviously this.

I've been a fan forever of their games and consoles and while not defending them when they screw up i would just overlook said screw ups and concentrate on what matters, the games. But now this goes beyond just simple bad marketing or stupid Jack Tretton statements or whatever and their consistently poor track record this gen in regards to how they manage their business is appalling.

Hopefully this will be a serious wake up call for them.

Darn Shame i like my PS3 Alot but with this maybe more 360 i have both systems but i play the PS3 More love the Trophies But this is Bad Bad for Sony Bad''

The funny thing about this whole situation regarding the PSN security breach, at least for me personally is, it started and continues during me moving across town. By the time I have some semblance of normalcy in my new place, I'm sure PSN will be up and running 100%. Fo rme, I really haven't missed anything. I write this as my iPhone is tethered to my laptop, awaiting for the internet guy to do his thing here at the new place. Smartphones FTW.

Sony can kiss my ass... I'm going to sell my ps3 and pick up a used one on old firmware.  CFW here I come~

Posted by harvey_the_pooka

Fucking-A Sony! Fucking-A! Will have to change all my shit now. Thanks a lot!

Posted by Pumpkinhead

Thanks a lot Anom...    I'm super happy that all my personal information is out there.

Edited by Vexxan

Overuse of the words "may" and "possibly" make it seems like shit's gone really bad.

Posted by xyzygy

I'm going to guess that Sony won't be able to fix this without resetting the whole system. Accounts included.

Edited by harinosho

credit card is maxed out on other things..so even if they tried to use it it'll be bounced.

still i worry about other things..kind.. why am i not really worried about this stuff.. that unnerves somewhats
Posted by jalhalla

They really haven't done themselves any favours over the last couple of years.
Removing OtherOS was just the start and all their fans are constantly asking for new features for PSN and the XMB, but nothing ever comes.

I personally don't play a lot of multiplayer online, so cross-game chat is the last on my list.

But, not having the XMB being built into games is just stupid really... :/

Rookie mistake when coding.

Valve has come out and said that none of your information on Steam was accessible through the PSN hack.

Well, they backed the wrong horse for one game. Previous to Portal 2 Valve never backed Sony on anything. In fact they openly talked shit about them. But yeah, the Portal 2 deal seems kind of moot at the moment.  "
I don't think Valve would've gone to all that trouble and expense to integrate Steam for one title. They must've already been kicking themselves when the system was cracked wide open, but now I bet they really regret it.

Okay

 "If you have
provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity,
out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit
card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have
been obtained."

Thats BULLSHIT SONY.... T_T god F'in DAMN

Posted by FoxMulder

Meh, I still like Uncharted, Infamous, and Metal Gear way better than any Halo or Gears of War.  So I'll stick with Sony..

Posted by shockmonkey

Well... not buying anymore Sony products now. >:(

Posted by Swordfish9

This is one of the reasons why I don't use credit card to make online transactions, in this case the cardholders weren't the ones who f**ked up but it was the merchant who did, giving away customers' information due to outside malicious intent.

It took near financial ruin and company meltdown, but we might finally get to change our PSN IDs!

Are you serious? Fuck man sorry to hear that. I'm sticking with Sony for this generation but when the PS4 hits... yeah I'll pass.

Excellent post Patrick. This is the kind of news video game media doesn't have enough of. People call themselves game journalists, but rarely practice journalism to this degree. Most post rumors, offer a bit of their own speculation and then say something like "we'll keep you updated", which usually means they'll wait till someone else does the work and try to be the first to post it. Here you've got sources, interviews with people outside of the game industry, and excellent, actually useful information. Thanks for making Giant Bomb even better.

On topic, I've been watching my online account activity since the breach happened and I suggest everyone else do the same. I already favor my 360 for multiplayer games, but I'll do so even more now. My PS3 has officially been relegated to Blu-Ray player and Uncharted machine.

I just want to play online again. :U

I always thought Points-Card people were just being paranoid, but from this day forth, I am going to be one of them.

And I am canceling my card as we speak.

Flipped out when I read this:

http://lo-ping.org/2011/04/26/psn-hacker-chat-logs/

Any validity to it?  Is the rest of my data safe?
Posted by AndyMP
@ptc: Not taking Sony's side on this one, but it's fair to say that if a hacker wants to hack almost any system they will likely find a way (btw, that doesn't excuse Sony from encrypting the data which they should clearly have done). MS doesn't have the best record when it comes to software not being exploited and I'll bet almost every one of those tech/gaming platforms will not be laughing too hard at Sony knowing very weil it could have been/might be them

This is most likely just an email everyone will receive. I don't think this situation is worst for some people while others got lucky. "
I haven't gotten an e-mail yet. Do you think they are e-mailing say US users first?
