Vamos Noah!!!
Good article and amazing kid! I wish I could see some of his SSFIV matches on youtube with high quality...
Great article, it was very cool watching him play on the EVO stream (hyper armor ftw)
this kid proved he can fight with the big players and is a "little lucky",
but he also proved that hulk wesker and sentinel are cheap/easy and broken.
hulk has armor, sentinel has a relaunch spam, and wesker has both a relaunch/assist and teleporting
Great profile of a talented gamer. Really should watch the EVO feeds too, really liked what I saw from here.
That kid's dad sounds like an awesome guy.And a great dad. More kids need parents like this guy.
Great fight to watch, there's plenty of those around though (close calls). And probably in 10 years there's another kid who beats Noah in the same way :) (being younger, etc. etc.)
I just hope his Dad isn't gonna "make" him play games. It has to be fun and willingly not forced because "life depends on it".
But nevertheless this kid is surely making an impact :)
I wish him the best in the coming tournaments!
I heard about this kid in Guinness a year back. It's cool that there are kids this good, but it must be hard to win or lose against the kid.
Giant Bomb is a great site but the commenters are near Kotaku-level bad. Some dumb fucking comments up in here.
MvC3 is a toy game. This just confirms it.The only thing proven is your stupidity.
The fact that his father is so supportive of him is amazing. The fact that this guy can see past all the video game flash and just connect with his son is awesome.Agreed 100%. I'm jealous; growing up I never had that sort of support for my passion.

Noah really wasn't that great.
I mean, he's an 8 year old kid so i'm not giving him a hard time, he has potential to be really good in the future.
But he happened to get put in pools against alot of awful people who had no clue how to deal with super armor. Even that match in the video, his opponent was good with modok combo's but other then that, look how much stupid super armor traps his opponent fell into.
That's pretty cool, I hope the kid doesn't grow up and become 1 of those gamers who thinks their better then everyone else and has their head stuck up their bum, like Idra.

That you want to him to see MvC 2. Which to me at least is not a fluent as MvC 3 is and the kid might not be as good at it.
Eh wtf, I'm reading an article on Giantbomb. This is unprecedented. I'm glad to see an article with something involving the fighting game community though, I wish there was more E-sports content on this website. After awhile repeating news about games coming out and reviews gets old. I want to see more articles about things involving the players of the games instead of developer articles about what they added to some sequel they cant talk about. EVO is pretty big, and this is all I saw about it on this website? Diago's loss was pretty big also from Poongko.
Patrick is making me read at the website I come to for dumb videos. But I don't hate it. What gives!
I'm so happy Patrick is a part of this website. His articles are amazing and always interesting.
That's pretty cool that his dad sold his rims to help fund his tournament stuff, and now seems to be wanting to help his son succeed at what hes good at, even though his dad isn't a gamer.
Why say something against violent videogames and not something against football which is probably played every school in the U.S.? Football is a lot more violent than videogames since real life violence beats digital violence hands down, has worse smacktalk (mostly done by parents) and cause a lot more RL deaths. I'm surprised that the ball hasn't become a spiked one by now.

Oh and the comment about it not being a "sport" because an 8 year old can do it, is probably the dumbest thing I've seen on this site. A game that lets anyone of any age play competitively is probably more of a sport than any other.
Actually there's a pretty strong movement in the fighting game community to reject the e-sport label. In fact there was an interesting article on SRK 2 weeks back or so, about this topic: http://shoryuken.com/2011/08/11/editorial-are-fighting-games-the-next-esport/
Just because something is not a sport, does not mean it doesn't take hard work, skill, and the poise to perform under pressure. Regardless your point stands, as it's obvious those you're responding to would probably find another way to belittle and insult if the sport argument wasn't on the table.
I could have been the next noah, but you know what? My dad kept the rims.... he kept them good :(

i love this kid..... Why do you play fighting games?.... I dont know, they're fun?
Yeah, I imagine he's gonna make sure Noah grows up right. It's great seeing a family enjoying something like this. That dad seems like a reasonable enough person. I like him.
Also, he looks like he could totally smack a bitch around, so he gets a 2x multiplier.

Nice work, Patrick. Fantastic to see an article like this - it's definitely the people and communities behind the games which make them what they are. One of the standout moments (of which there were quite a few) at this year's EVO.
I fucking loved this story. It brought a big smile to my face and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Fantastic article, Patrick. Keep them coming!
Noah's dad seems like an absolute champ. Alot of parents wouldn't give a shit about this or take it seriously. But obviously it's worked out really well for them.
We see prodigies in almost every other area/hobby/endeavor, so this was bound to happen. It's a cool story, but honestly, I'd hate to see this become his whole life, nothing but fighting games from early childhood on. I'm glad that the EVO/fighting community has given their support for the kid, though.

As if that were the worst thing a person could do...

its the modern day incarnation of Tommy instead of a deaf person, its an 8 year old kid.
Great article Patrick!
Man, kids these days...! When I was 8 I was out playing soccer or just writing short-stories in my bedroom :) Gaming only used to take up like, about a couple of hours out of my entire week.
Great article dude. I watched EVO and his matches were a highlight for me. Thanks for giving me some insight on something I was really curious about.
This kid is playing now on Peaceful Jays channel over at justintv. Showing his Bison throwing skillz.
It'll be cool to see how Noah does as he gets older. He'll be more mature, be able to grasp the more advanced concepts and strategies of the games, and will probably do waaay better. And he'll also be able to give better interviews. :P
