Nice and Insightful Piece.
It is understandable that he was quiet on the phone, children that young do not even get awkward silences lol.
Tiger Woods had stories like this on him when he was little. Just remember Noah, if you want to hook up with lots of waitresses when you're older, don't get married first. Get married after.

I was too busy watching Aris "The Beard" hit on Kayo Police on stream 2. Best commentary ever.
I could hear the cheers for this kid in the background.
And of course he's best at the most ridiculously complicated fighter out there.
I'm just kidding, this is a really awesome story, and the kid's dad seems to be really supportive. I look forward to hearing more about this kid.
This kid is infinitely better at fighting games than I am. In that he can win.
And maybe in interviewing the child, less questions with a yes or no answer, or one word answers is what you should strive for.
Granted, I don't read all of Patrick's articles, but this one stuck out to me as being particularity well done. More like this, Klepek

This is my first time on GiantBomb... pretty cool site. I'm usually on just fighting related site but this is very cool with all these quests. It's like a game. Thanks to my supporters "standing up" for me. I'm really cool with all the "Baby Killer", "Dream Killer", "Child abuser" comments from Evo and back. I'll tell you that nobody wanted to play Noah, it just so happens that our paths crossed. It's both our rookie year except I'm just 8 years older. Noah is going to be amazing... in fact his hardest challenge is going to be interested in video games once he discovers girls. I can relate to this story, except I limited support. It's refreshing to see such strong parental support despite the financial situation making the choice difficult.
Does anyone know if Noah got a twitter yet? Here is my Twitter if anyone is interested in following @NYChrisG
This was my first year watching EVO and there was so many highlights for! Noah was one of those and I won't forget it! Wish nothing for the best for this kid!
I was watching the IPlayWinner stream last night, whenever some one picked Hulk, Wesker and Sentinel, they called it Team Noah.
"I can either let him go outside, smoke pot, run around with gang members--"
Funny, theres always so much ganja at EVO... there were less people smoking at the MW2 midnight release. Good for the kid, but his mom is pretty jaded thinking gamers aren't just your average, everyday delinquents.

You know your "sport" isn't really a sport when an 8 year old can dominate it.
Really, so soccer isn't a sport when a 14yr oldout there playing with men? skills are skills no matter the age.
@NYChrisG: Welcome to Giant Bomb! It's pretty unique among the general gaming websites. Glad to have you. Don't think Noah's got a Twitter, someone from the FGC will probably blow the internet up when he does.
He was 15 his first game, about twice as old as this kid. Yeah, that's totally the same.@ryanwho said:

No, it just means that age doesn't necessarily correlate with skill.
@BagManForHire said:One is physically taxing, and the other isn't? Pretty sure its physically impossible for an 8 year old to keep up with an adult. He was 15 his first game, about twice as old as this kid. Yeah, that's totally the same.@ryanwho said:

@Mesoian:Oh yeah Kayo is cool people. Me and my friends played a few casual matches against her in AE. Every time she won a match she'd look back at her opponent and would playfully taunt them in Japanese.
@BagManForHire said:...and Freddy Adu isn't that good a player, truth be told.He was 15 his first game, about twice as old as this kid. Yeah, that's totally the same.@ryanwho said:

Hit Box has a video of him on their site using the stickless joystick. Apparently after 5 minutes he had learned how to use the stick. Oh how I wish I still had the neuroplasticity of an 8 year old brain!
and how exactly do they explain this kid playing M rated games?Because most stable people understand a game is a game and nothing more.@Scarabus said:

Moises Solis sounds like an awesome father. Klepek kills it as he is wont to do.
It's great to see his dad supporting him like this. I hope we see Noah grow up on the tournament scene. :)
Don't let the haters get you, kiddo. :)
Reminds me of Mike Ross' documentary:

Great article. Sounds like a nice kid with a good dad, and that is awesome.
I don't think we'll see any shooting at Evo any time soon."I can either let him go outside, smoke pot, run around with gang members--"

I suck at fighting games, and I don't really like them. But this was a pretty cool article. I was expecting this "8-year-old prodigy" to be from Taiwan or Japan; I'm sure I'm not the only one. ;)
@NYChrisG: Wanted to also say welcome to the site. I've been a big fan of your play, especially everything you manage to get out of Ryu. I can't wait to see what you manage to accomplish with all the new tools he's getting in UMvC3.
It'll be cool to see how Noah does as he gets older. He'll be more mature, be able to grasp the more advanced concepts and strategies of the games, and will probably do waaay better. And he'll also be able to give better interviews. :P
This kid is playing now on Peaceful Jays channel over at justintv. Showing his Bison throwing skillz.
Great article dude. I watched EVO and his matches were a highlight for me. Thanks for giving me some insight on something I was really curious about.
Great article Patrick!
Man, kids these days...! When I was 8 I was out playing soccer or just writing short-stories in my bedroom :) Gaming only used to take up like, about a couple of hours out of my entire week.
