I just re-bought Skyrim for PC just for the steam features.... they are really good....

You're right. It's you.

Just keep on blaming the internet.

Forgotten. Thanks internet.

Now you're saying you just agree that I should have never made that statement.

You're clearly imagining things to be in your favor. Everything you've said has been wrong in what you've accused me of, you complained and couldn't handle when people asked why it was such a big deal, considering it was an amazingly stupid thing to complain about. I have not once even mentioned that you shouldn't post your complaints, just the fact that you can't seem to handle it.

Posted by MrKlorox
@gringbot: I never once whined. I made an observation about the naming scheme and disagreed with it. And I ended the statement with "meh," meaning I don't really care. Then I get a barrage of hostile overreactions from a couple of fools who took what I said extremely out of context, acting like I said something inflammatory, demanding, or entitled. How loose is your definition of whine?

You started the cursing by asking, in a clearly hostile tone, "why the fuck do you care?" Now you're saying you just agree that I should have never made that statement. Then you immediately say you never implied I shouldn't say things.

My only mistake was responding to this absurdity in a similar tone. Turns you can act civil to civilized people and all be good, but you cannot act uncivilized to uncivilized people and expect them to become self aware. I wish people would just mind their own business.

@MrKlorox:

Well, MY original post was why do you care so much over what a lot of people here are saying is really minor, because you don't like some words? It seemed silly to complain about the name considering were even lucky to still get a modding tool at all, or even an Elder Scrolls 5, they don't HAVE to do this. Then you went aggro, so what am I supposed to do? I never defended the guy, that wasn't my intention, but I'm afraid you are the one that started with the cursing, over the fact that someone called you whiny, which a lot of people here seem to agree with. He has a point, regardless of the way he said it. Sorry if you can't handle that.

Again, when did I ever say you should keep things to yourself?

And thanks, I quite like it here.

I have never modded a game but man, this seems like a great place to start. Best of all out of all of this is the simplicity of the mods. As a person who rarely played PC games, I always have to look up the proper way to install a mod, because I am an idiot. But shit, just click and it installs all on its own? Brilliant!

So now, how long until the bigger booty and clean faces that Vinny was talking about show up in the Steam Workshop mod list? >_>

Makes me glad I've held off playing Skyrim.

@pyide: I agree. No big deal at all. I don't understand why a couple of lunatics are dragging it out like it is.

That's what I meant by Fallout permeating Elder Scrolls. Sorry if some folks don't think I should express this observation, but fuckem.

Oh, I know exactly what you meant, and you have every right to 'express' it, they changed some words because of Fallout and it bothers you. But was this necessary?

If you're going to try and take a superior attitude, at least try and know what you're talking about. Or better yet get off my dick and let me write about what I want to write about instead of telling me how wrong I'm doing things.

Again you act like that was my initial post, which it clearly wasn't. It was indeed absolutely necessary to tell that first guy to fuck off for telling me not to express my observation. And even more necessary for me to tell you. who defended the first guy. to do the same. Especially after you started with the cursing and name calling.

You think you're doing a service or something telling people to keep things you disagree with to themselves? Butting in where you don't belong just to fan the flames? That's the real douche move here. Do you enjoy the irony, or is the whole thing lost on you?

BTW welcome to Giant Bomb. I'm sure you'll make a lot of friends like that.

Fuck. Yes.

@MrKlorox

They changed the engine name to the Creation Engine for Skyrim and calling the tools the Creation Kit makes a lot sense in that regard. And much simpler phrase to say than Elder Scrolls Construction Set while still conveying what it's capable of, creating new content. Not a big deal, just branding.
Posted by dagas

People are given a mod tool and are complaining about the name of the tool? That makes teenage girl raging at her brand new car she got from her father being the wrong color seem logical in comparison.

They could have called it Donkey Shit Mod Tool and I would still be happy. I think I'm getting the PC version of this game when it's on sale.

It sounds like YOU have the superior attitude. There are no "veiled threats" here, I'm calling you a hostile douche:

Wow, you are completely oblivious aren't you? Since you're incapable of realizing it...

...Also your veiled threats are the most hilarious thing I've read all week. Tell me another.

Sorry if some folks don't think I should express this observation, but fuckem.

Because I do. What's it to you? Wanna know what's about a thousand times more obnoxious to complain about? Other people's entirely innocuous observations.

So I turn your question back at you: Why the fuck do YOU care?
Posted by TheHT

@MrKlorox: Ah. Construction Set just sounds better to me, but that could be due to fond memories of modding Oblivion. I don't mind the name change, even if it is derived from the Fallout 3 mod tools name. It's not like they're calling it something way off base; construction set and creation kit are, as names for mod tools, totally self-explanatory.

You're spot-on with the perk stuff though. They're just skills that are literally on skill trees. Not perk trees. Motherfuckin' Skill Trees. Obviously not game-changing shit, but it did leave kind of a bad taste in my mouth the first time I saw it in game.

What makes you so certain I care? All I see is a ragingly hostile douche and felt like calling him out.

You might want to calm the fuck down. You'll live longer that way.

Wow, you are completely oblivious aren't you? Since you're incapable of realizing it, I suppose I have to point out that you two were being the hostile douches as if I said something inflammatory in my initial post; which I didn't. Also your veiled threats are the most hilarious thing I've read all week. Tell me another.

@MrKlorox: Wait, wait, wait. What's the problem with the mod tools being called "Creation Kit" instead of "Construction Set" and how exactly does that relate to Fallout?

All I was doing is bringing up how the name was changed from "construction set" to "creation kit" after the Fallout 3 mod tools started using that naming scheme. And the reason they called it the Garden of Eden Creation Kit (GECK) for Fallout is because there is an important plot device and item in the Fallout fiction by that name, and it was kindof a cute little reference for that game. But the play on words doesn't work so well for Elder Scrolls because TESCK isn't a thing in that universe. That's why I prefer Construction Set to Creation Kit.

Also "perk" seems to be the new term for what used to be known as "passive abilities".

Wow... Fallout has really permeated everything Elder Scrolls. What's wrong with calling it the Construction Set, instead of shoehorning in a plot device from Fallout 2. It made sense for the Fallout mod tools to be called the GECK, but meh.

It's called the 'Creation Kit', the guy in the video mentions the GECK because that was the last tool they created and he was comparing it to this one. Go find something else to whine about on the internet, or actually try and feel good about something and write about that.

You're clearly not familiar with the naming scheme of past official Elder Scrolls modding tools, nor the origin of GECK outside of Fallout 3. If you're going to try and take a superior attitude, at least try and know what you're talking about. Or better yet get off my dick and let me write about what I want to write about instead of telling me how wrong I'm doing things.

I think his point is: Why the fuck do you care? Considering its a very pointless thing to complain about.

Why is there an age gate on this video? OMG!! We must protect our children from creation kits and modding!!!

I was just about to post the same thing. Maybe any video related to an M-rated game has to be age gated, regardless of content? , ?

Probably due to the inevitable amount of porn mods that will follow its release? /shrug

I feel bad for the guys over at Skyrim Nexus. I hope the Steam Workshop doesn't overshadow all their hard work and amazing site.

I think SkyrimNexus will be fine. Steam Workshop looks to be great for all mods that don't need much maintenance like mods that add items like armour and weapons into the game. However from the sounds of it any advanced mods that require extenders or other means of external fiddling will not really work for Steam Workshop. SkyrimNexus will have that covered and we will likely see a proper Mod Manager like OBMM and FMM sometime after the Creation Kit's release.

I feel like Steam Workshop will be a great avenue for people new to modding or have never done it before. It lets them try it out before jumping into the really big mods that will pretty much only be found in places like SkyrimNexus.

Cool can't wait to play around in this. I wonder why they created a new scripting language for this though. Why not use an existing one like Lua?

Now if only I could team up with some modders to create content. I'd love to do something like a quest or a series of quests, but I don't have time to do all that work with school and whatnot.

Still, I'm very excited to see what folks come up with now that the process is so streamlined. I've been amazed by the prowess of Skyrim modders already, let alone when they get their hands on these sexy tools.

This seems cool enough but I wonder if the Steam workshop will play nice with any hypothetical script extender, of the sort you needed for the really complex Fallout mods. Managing load orders might also be problematic if it requires you to use the in-game data files menu instead of an independent mod manager.
