This seems cool enough but I wonder if the Steam workshop will play nice with any hypothetical script extender, of the sort you needed for the really complex Fallout mods. Managing load orders might also be problematic if it requires you to use the in-game data files menu instead of an independent mod manager.

I think SkyrimNexus will be fine. Steam Workshop looks to be great for all mods that don't need much maintenance like mods that add items like armour and weapons into the game. However from the sounds of it any advanced mods that require extenders or other means of external fiddling will not really work for Steam Workshop. SkyrimNexus will have that covered and we will likely see a proper Mod Manager like OBMM and FMM sometime after the Creation Kit's release.

I feel like Steam Workshop will be a great avenue for people new to modding or have never done it before. It lets them try it out before jumping into the really big mods that will pretty much only be found in places like SkyrimNexus.

@MrKlorox: Ah. Construction Set just sounds better to me, but that could be due to fond memories of modding Oblivion. I don't mind the name change, even if it is derived from the Fallout 3 mod tools name. It's not like they're calling it something way off base; construction set and creation kit are, as names for mod tools, totally self-explanatory.

You're spot-on with the perk stuff though. They're just skills that are literally on skill trees. Not perk trees. Motherfuckin' Skill Trees. Obviously not game-changing shit, but it did leave kind of a bad taste in my mouth the first time I saw it in game.

People are given a mod tool and are complaining about the name of the tool? That makes teenage girl raging at her brand new car she got from her father being the wrong color seem logical in comparison.

I have never modded a game but man, this seems like a great place to start. Best of all out of all of this is the simplicity of the mods. As a person who rarely played PC games, I always have to look up the proper way to install a mod, because I am an idiot. But shit, just click and it installs all on its own? Brilliant!
