Priorities eh? You'd think they'd fix the still awfully broken PS3 version they sold to millions of people before working on that kind of stuff. Meh. I was done with Skyrim anyway once my frame rate started dropping to below 10 fps consistently.

Bethseda will be selling the extra 20 fps as DLC.

I want to shout. Too bad I did my time with the poopy PS Twa version.

I used it in ME3 until I started playing after the kids went to bed and they would complain about me screaming at Javik.....

The real question is: does the PS3 version still suck ass?

I played 100 hours on the PS3 before the patch that was supposed to fix it, and while the frame rate wasn't great after the 80 hour mark it was perfectly playable. Playing again recently to mop up the achievements I didn't get, the recent patches seems to have fixed all the performance problems I was having, a stable 30 FPS or so in almost all situations.

This sounds really awesome. The one problem I had with Skyrim on consoles was that there was no quick save, and you had to trawl through at least two menus if you wanted to save semi-frequently. Voice control to save (although maybe not load, that sounds a bit risky), and to control your party members, seems like a really helpful feature.

Is it bad I already know how to say every dragon shout?

Slightly, but it would be really bad if you knew the translations off-hand.

It worked awesome in ME3 and it should be great for this.

I just hope they fix the "Ill Met by Moonlight" quest..

I think this looks good. It shows Kinect being used smartly. Perhaps because it's just voice commands and not waving everywhere.

Posted by oobs

why dont they just be able to give an option of using a mic as well as the Kinect

Posted by hughesman

It's funny seeing people say that this is the most interesting use of kinect when it would probably work better with a headset.

Posted by Encephalon

This is the best kind of dumb.

Posted by FiestaUnicorn

I've been convinced to buy a kinect after watching youtube video.

Posted by This_Dude

@Apocralyptic: Have you tried the voice support in ME3? I have a feeling if you had you wouldn't make that type of comment, because it's actually pretty great. It made combat a lot more fluid and since it removed having to bring up the power wheel to fire off squad powers (beyond what you had hotkeyed obviously), I found myself using all of my powers instead of just the ones that were assigned to left or right on the D-pad. I also ended up actually issuing squad commands for flanking and taking up defensive positions, which is something I never bothered doing before trying out the Kinect support. Kinect support like this is great, and I definitely approve of more games giving you this option.

SORT BY WEIGHT AND VALUE?! SOLD I'M BUYING KINECT. Wait. I already have it.

Hooray, just what I always wanted! Now I can completely undo any immersion I may have built up by saying dragon shouts in my weedy little Englishman voice in my fucking living room, reminding myself that I am indeed, not a nordic badass.

Maybe you're really a Nordic badass that was kidnapped by your "parents" and raised as a weedy little Englishman to hide the fact that you're Dragonborn and can totally shout magic at fools.

You know, like Harry Potter, but with more decapitations.

I wonder when they'll get around to making Skyrim fun.

Damn, I was thinking I was an island of one thinking Skrym is way overrated. The problem with Bethesdae games is that they are all soulless.

I'm planning another run through as a Mage. Kinect voice support would totally rock for selecting spells, not to mention shouting Fus Ro Dah at my TV.

Posted by Apocralyptic

@This_Dude: I tried it for the first 5-10 hours I played the game. It was passable as long as things didn't get too hectic, but on Hardcore or Insane, once shit started to get real it was a lot faster (in terms of game time) and more reliable to bring up the command ring and enter the commands manually. I did feel it made the game more "immersive", but given the choice between (a) immersion and (b) getting murdered because a squad member didn't listen or took to long to respond, I'll choose the option that keeps me from having to see another loading screen.

Yeah you're right, it would work so much better with a headset

The fuck is wrong with people these days

Yes go add some pointless Kinect addition all the while you still can't get the PS3 version to work properly. God I fucking hate Bethesda.

Posted by FoxMulder

My PS3 version works propely :D

Fus Ro Dah!

Posted by gunslingerNZ

The fact that voice control has become the only "core gamer" feature of the Kinect is incredibly stupid, what an expensive microphone.

Posted by jasondesante

what about kinect support on PC that would be funny. Might as well add support for the novint falcon while theyre at it.

Posted by Zombie_Shakespeare

Doesn't seem like bad use of Kinect. If it works.

Posted by LP3

If this means I can now quick save/quick load using only my voice and not needing to go to the menu screen...

FUCK YEAH

Who's the silly looking foreign language shouting man on the couch? You are! Oh yes you are!

I don't care about anything but yelling dragon shouts into my t.v. I would do it so hard.

Posted by BakingPanda

Its going to make saving easier for consoles now. Who wouldn't want that?

Posted by Svenzon

This sounds awesome. I might actually get a 360 copy just to try it out.

Edited by Kosayn

See, I don't want to be saying "Ally attack." I want to be saying "Lydia, attack those archers in the back." I'm not interested in saving a few button presses - I'm interested in games attempting to move forward with AI.

For a Mass Effect example, if I name my dude Rick Shepard, I want the game to be able to use his first name when appropriate. If i name him Wrealjtum Shepard, then I want the machine to ask how to pronounce it, and give me a few tries, or listen to my pronunciation. I know, voice actors, a billion hours in studio to record all the more likely names, inflection would be different each situation, etc. I'm saying it could be attempted, but nobody wants to try. I'm saying we've had bad voice recognition software since the early 90s, and it hasn't gotten appreciably better. I'm saying eventually games will do this stuff, probably in our lifetime, but right now we're not even poking around at the basics of how we'll begin to do it.

Or, how about an old Zork style adventure game that I give commands, and if it doesn't recognize my voice command, it says so? Kinect has no fail state indicator of any kind, not even a light blink. I want Kinect 2, or more likely, some other, better effort, to attempt to hold its own on the level of an IRC chat bot at least. Developers need to try harder for us to get beyond this current generation's limits.

Posted by AiurFlux

I don't know why it has to be a "Kinect" thing when anything with access to a microphone could have it. Probably backroom political bullshit involving Microsoft and a lot of money were both involved. And I'm still kind of ticked off that they're now going, "Hurr durr DLC!" while they still have a game on one of the platforms that still has some pretty major problems. I don't know. Bethesda can act like the righteous ones they want to be, but they clearly are not.

Anyway it's already been done on PC. Thu'um Mic does it, and probably does it better.

Posted by Nasar7

Seems silly but sure why not.

Online
Posted by hermes

@AiurFlux: Because Kinect has a lot of voice recognition software that simplifies the process. Otherwise, Bethesda would have to develop a recognition module to work in Skyrim, which seems like too much work for a novelty.

The same reason why voice commands in Mass Effect 3 are only available with Kinect.

This will be a massively awesome update if I can say "Quick Save" and it will quick save since navigating those menus and saving was a ton of time (since I'm a saving fiend).

Posted by Summoboomo

@jasondesante:I'm pretty sure there's a mod for voice support on the PC already!
