I'm User 1876.
I registered launch day of the site.
I'm 18285 and have been a member since August 25th 2008, so not too long after they got started. But I wasn't active till a year after since I was busy adminning a doomed forum.
Wow it's crazy to think Giantbomb has been around since I was in grade 11. It's like I'm a whole different person.
I ran a site dedicated to Counter-Strike Skill Movies back in the early 2000s with 400,000 members. Not all were active by any means, as well as there were tons that never registered for it. If that puts it into perspective for you. It was an insanely popular site throughout the global community however.

@VoxelAnd about half of those is that sonic fellow who has it out for Jeff.Don't forget that Giant Bomb attracts a lot of spam accounts for whatever reason.
Only half? :P
Okay...okay... 7/8ths. The other 1/8th is trying to sell us sexy womens clothes.
This is all leading to the greatest question of all, who is #1? I assume it's a staff member, but it would still be cool to know.

I suppose so. I'm user #96

@Flacracker: You can go here: http://www.giantbomb.com/users/? and browse for your username
@Flacracker: Click the "Read more about me" link on the left of your profile page under your "picture of you". It'll appear in a panel just underneath where you clicked that link.

@Flacracker: If you kept the confirmation e-mail, you'll know. Here's my beta invitation. Which is also a good reminder of the wiki stats done by staff and interns, before we fucked it all up. ;)

And here's the launch Bombcast. Still gold. Good reason that Goomba is the graphic. ;)

How can you tell what day you joined?
@TrashMustache: As context, the Penny Arcade forums (have) boast(ed) of being the largest registered user forum on the internet. This was definitely before Reddit was a thing, but PA has a stronger gaming-specific focus. At this timestamp there are 719 people online, the largest post count forum has 6.3 Million posts, and the largest thread count forum has 24,700 threads. 16 users have a 10th anniversary badge.
Earlier this year, Playfire.com hit a million registered users. For wiki junkies like me the best site comparison is MobyGames, but I don't know enough about their user data to comment. For sheer userbase I believe GameTrailers has been in the Top 3 for a long time, used to be a lot of videos got up to 1,000 comments in the first couple days... and they had that god awful comment system for years. But they too, like most gaming sites, have been copying features off Giant Bomb the whole time. :) Quests, the QL format, Whiskey and Jeff have pioneered or popularised a lot.
A year or two ago when GB was having achievement feed troubles again, someone got on the defensive, suggesting it was a technology issue with the size of GB's userbase being "larger than other gaming sites doing it" to paraphrase. I shut them down pretty hard (probably too hard, and apologised) by citing TrueAchievements.com's user numbers and uptime. Suffice to say, it wasn't a contest.
Seen a lot of growth in the past year, to the point where some veteran users are falling off the map. Feels different these days, a lot of vets here were vets from GameSpot/System Wars, etc. So those are the big circles I'm aware of. Also, #7666.
I want to see what number I am now too.
EDIT: I appear to be 8041. I was hoping to be lower but I expect a lot of people were there on the first day.

I would check it periodically that day while I was sitting at the computer. I kinda thought I would be a lower number too. As soon as I saw it was up, I registered. I do remember that I didn't get my first pick and was caught off gaurd by that, because I thought like "somebody's already got that?"
In fact, I just checked that user name I'm talking about which has no followers and was probably barely ever used.... It's number 498.

If anyone is interested in what your user number is, ask me. They are issued chronologically.
Mine is 334.
Does that mean you were the 334th person to sign up when the site launched? What am I?
17,339. Read this thread to learn how to check.
Hmm. I think I remember being too lazy to sign up when the site first launched and didn't really come back to it till 2009.

They're either doing well or have potential otherwise CBS wouldn't have bought them.
150,000 registered users is pretty good, even if a lot of them don't use their accounts. And at the end of the day, it's page-views that count. The Users thing was more important when they were dependent on Subscriptions to keep afloat. Having said that, I'll still subscribe because 1) These guys deserve money and 2) I like the Youtube player option and embiggen.

I thought Dave Snider might be really close to 1, but he's 22.
Decided some of the accounts that were around first were probably test accounts, so I knew @admin might be up there seeing it around here and there and presumably run by Ethan at one time. It was number 3.
I also tried @test. It was number 32. Both have Punch-Out! avatars.
Found a problem here though: both @ethan and @test are 32.
@jeff is 26.
@ryan is 27.
@brad is 30.
@vinny is 31.
@patrickklepek is 93,384.
@drewbert is 23,534.
@alex is 12,537.
Now I'm checking everybody's who comments in the forums. This is the start of a terrible habit.

I'll bite! I joined the day registration opened, so I'm curious.
Nevermind, figured out how to do it myself (based on the comments in this thread). I'm around 7600.
@TrashMustache: Yeah I just got to that part... Silly me not reading the whole thread first.

@pyromagnestir: Right click your avatar, open image in new tab or copy image url, and it's the second number after uploads/ in the url (eg uploads/2/23581/ would be 23581). Should be the same on any image you've uploaded to the site. (MB provided this info earlier in this thread)
I'd rather not know my member number. It would clash with my ways of blending in as a person who's been here forever.
Checking my number now :3
Aww - 13653, thought i was earlier than that.
Oh well still a neat little tidbit!
Huh. 3973. I remember waiting for the site to open for registration but I had to get sleep....
Anyway, the number of people who visit websites regularly but never create an account is usually high, so I could believe that number. Also, the number of those registered accounts which are *active* members is just a fraction.

Cool. I would be 534 then! Not bad.

@MB: I'd be curious to know mine, as well. I *think* I registered within the first week, or so.
