I want someone else on this site reading these comments to acknowledge that they know what "sinking the ship" means. And no, that's not a dirty euphemism... (this time)
gungame in cs 1.6 also made you lose a rank if you knifed a dude. This looks cool, didn't CSS have shadows though? it's weird that this doesn't, they added a bunch of stuff to cs: source too like achievements and stats, I don't think they added a ranking. 1.6 maps I always played was fy_iceworld and de_dust2.
edit: Brad was doing pretty fucking good!! A LOT better than me

I used to play Counter-Strike professionally in Scandinavia, had our fights with sK who were little babbies on the field when they came
Oh really
I wonder why Valve got Hidden Path to develop this and how much control they had over it.

Is it like Slappin' the Grimlock?

I'm going to say... no.
Counter-strike was my first PC multiplayer game. After I upgrade my computer I'll be hoping on this new CS.
i love brad but he knows fuck all about cs... steam came out with 1.6... they added the gailil and famas and the riot shield and steam was hacked before it was released, so everyone was playing it unofficially - not source - drew knows what hes on about.
I like a lot of the changes they made in this version. They're seemingly small but they make a pretty big difference. The minor revisions to the classic maps are the best part.
But they need to get some of the console things out of there. I'm sure they'll take it out soon enough.
Also, thank you Drew for getting in on this Quick Look.
Man. That was a nice shot with the pistol on arms race. Seemed accidental, but given how much of a monster Brad is at Quake 1, could just be the old twitch reflexes coming home to roost.
I love it!
Brad: "Goddamnit! Die"
Brad: "Fuck you one night stand"
Listening to brad play is almost as good as watching brad play..
Man, Brad was tearing it up in Arms Race! He definitely still has some of those twitch skills you need for this sort of game. He just needs to move more tactically when he can't respawn.
Yeah, this game looks better than it did, but:
a) it's still Counterstrike, so it's still gonna be populated by people who have been playing it for a decade and are better than your mere human husk could ever aspire to be
and
b) it looks weirdly blurry, especially around the edges of the screen. Like every terrorist/counter-terrorist just got done crying a lot
he_dodgeball2 was my favorite custom map.
In the early days, I was recording demos of matches and then dumping them into VideoMach which took each individual frame from the demo file before I could compile it all into an actual playable video. Good times.
Forget to buy anything.
Go back, buy shotgun.
Run to sniping position.
...love you, Brad.
Are there any modern shooters that don't track you constantly? Like with zero persistence? You leave the game and everything is wiped until you play again? I feel like the only person that hates having all of these dumb stats following them around.
@ExplodeMode: I'm gonna go ahead and say no.
most people like that stuff, and when you're already making an online multiplayer shooter, implementing it is so comically easy nowadays that it would really be an oversight NOT to do it.

Got a good laugh out of me.
How will I get distracted with porn .jpgs then?!
Looks like CS Source graphics too me, with a bunch of new crappy UI and stuff. I see no appeal in this at all. I'd rather play 1.6 or source, or not play CS at all since it's not 2003 anymore.
This seems ultimately useless to get on PC and really only there for those who play on consoles. Except that compared to modern shooters, Counter Strike is awfully archaic and if you were to compare it to other games, it's not exactly going to attract those who are already deep into Call of Duty.
At least the PS3 version supports keyboard and mouse.
Jeff and Drew's synced-up "Whaaat?!" at 7:55 made me wonder if my speakers were phasing out for a second hahah
Drew talking about that ice map I remember tat. I played a lot of scoutknifez which as it sounds was a map with only the scout sniper and a knife. Also I played ak-colt which was the AK47 vs the M4 and then AWP map which was all about the AWP sniper on an open field with some brick walls.

May buy this when it's 5 bucks on Steam in 6 months. Played the XBox version and it was awful. Just doesn't translate well to console.
Yeah, no reason to buy a Valve game for more, unless you're super psyched.
@Bartman3010: I don't think it's aimed at anyone except people open to new (well, old) kinds of shooters and people who loved counter strike.
I'm tempted to get the PS3 version since I'm at college and only brought an old workstation laptop, but I'm worried. I don't know how much of my love for Counter-Strike: Source stemmed from playing on the crazy 4Chan server, and hilarious custom maps like the excellent McDonalds one. I think I'll wait for a price drop. It's really going to hurt not having custom maps :(

If you're gonna wait for the price drop... why not just play old CS?
Time to watch some noobs play CS.
@SomeJerk: People still rail on that, apparently, but it honestly wasn't that bad. Slight revisionist history. I just remember hating to use Steam to find servers originally. I bought HL2 day one (as with all Valve games) and I never had any issues playing it that I remember.
@Morningstar: You're very young aren't you. http://www.giantbomb.com/half-life-counter-strike/61-11663/
the barrier to entry in this game is like running into a fucking brick wall. tf2 is call of duty-esque by comparison.

Not really, there are plenty of servers for casual players and newcomers, as well as an specific matchmaking mode for that (they didn't talk about it in the quicklook, but those were the servers where there is no collision or friendly fire and where you get the armor from the start without having to purchase it). It's also pretty good at telling you what you should do in the those modes and the loading screens, and just as shown in the quicklook - even if you randomly jump into server, few people you'll encounter will be COD or Xbox Live style dicks.
