Persona 4, right?

(Also, I should totally adopt that for my blog.)

Question: how does a review make it into the "useful user review" section? Does it have to be one of a recent game?

  1. I check the "Most Recent User Reviews" tab daily. I take everything that is detailed and well written. My only real stipulation is that the review has to be an original work and not copied and pasted from another blog or gaming site.
  2. I'm totally fine with reviews of games that aren't recent releases.

Let me tell you...when user reviews use to be on the front page erinfizz and me sometimes took flack for some of the "retro" reviews we put up on the front page. There was the positive Dynasty Warriors review, a review that used a "steak review system," and probably the most controversial review we put on the front page was that positive review for Trespasser: Jurassic Park.

@MURDERSMASH:

Congrats man!

Lotta love for XCOM this week.

Great list, that picture is classic.

Wow, I did not expect to see my review of Dust: An Elysian tail featured here. That's my first time giving an honest, "professional" shot at reviewing a game, and if anyone has any criticisms or anything, please feel free to let them fly. I enjoy writing from time to time, and anything to help me get better at it will go a long way, especially from a community that I respect.

Edit: Just realized I totally pmed you by replying, after you just told me not to. My bad dude.

Plus it was on his blog, so you double replied him. Bad blogging etiquette, old chap.

@ZombiePie: Okay cool. Here's a couple lists I made that people might enjoy. Link. Link.

I imagine the former, as he does ask from it every...whatever day it is before the Spotlight is usually posted. Thursday?

@ZombiePie: Does having users send you links to stuff they did help you out or is it just annoying?

I love it when users link me to their stuff. I prefer you link me to stuff in the comments section of the most recent Spotlight as opposed to via PM as being a moderator means I get a lot of PMs.

@ZombiePie At least you aren't as crazy as Marino is. His stat blogs are fascinating but holy shit I dont even want to know how long it takes to put those things together.

I made you a suitably daft list for next week, since you seem to be running out. Actually, I'll probably make a few more to give you a backlog. Hope the emergency thing you had yesterday turned out OK.

And yeah, you really do go all out with the number of articles featured. Have the Spotlights gotten a lot bigger since when you started doing them?

How much time does it take to go through all of this content to decide what will get featured? Seem over whelming. Do you look at a ton of different, blogs, lists, etc?

Oh boy...it must take about an hour to an hour and a half to make a single Spotlight. That number is discounting the times when I accidentally delete my blog or am completely drained physically.

Let Me Show You My Fairway....
Hello and welcome to the belated weekly Community Spotlight! I would like to apologize for this being late, however a few personal matters came up this week the prevented me from doing this Spotlight on the usual time. Beyond the late Spotlight did anyone notice that Jeff changed his profile avatar? If so what do you think about his new one? If you are in the mood for another mind blowing statistic get this, Gamebomb.ru's YouTube page is about to exceed 60,000,000 video views and 200,000 subscribers! Ryan was on another edition of GameSpot's Quoted For Truth and seems to be making yelling at GameSpot employees a habit. The fine marketers of GameSpot and the Giant Bomb staff would appreciate if you all took the time to fill out this comprehensive form about our community demographics. Finally the Giant Bomb PC Game Night Community has posted this highly entertaining compilation video of their recent adventures with Arma 2:

Best of Blogs

Dankempster is back to his usual grind of trying to beat Final Fantasy VII and user Sarumarine discusses his take on the grind that is Resident Evil 6. Hizang bit the bullet and bought a 3DS XL and discusses the trials and tribulations of trying to find a battery charger for it, whereas Phatmac finally bought a DS and talks about his first impressions of the handheld. A lot of users are still playing Borderlands 2 and the other big releases last month like MajorMitch, BitterAlmond, and Alaska_Gamer. RedRocketWestie wrote a blog defending the Kinect as a a poor piece of hardware but not a disappointment. Apocralyptic detailed his adventures in XCOM: Enemy Unknown in the form of a diary while on the flip-side Forderz rationalizes why he enjoys failing at XCOM and struggling with the battles in the game. Video_Game_King took the time to play Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Moon Crystal whereas user Mento briefly jaunted through Synergistic's Birthright. GB user Mento also provides a very entertaining MS Paint webcomic for your amusement. Gamer_152 implores you and the entire gaming community to stop getting angry at PETA because it is counter-intuitive. Encephalon continues his blog series looking at games he likes that have thing in them that he doesn't like, with the game this time being The World Ends With You. Fantastic Forums

Chapter 4 of The Walking Dead has come out and if you have played the episode discuss your decisions and their impact on your play through over there. If you plan on going to PAX East 2013 talk about what you are looking forward to and where you are staying in the PAX East 2013 discussion thread. Have there been any notable new video game characters that stuck with you this year? If so talk about them in the thread about the "Best New Character of the Year," and why you feel like they are a great character. Are you having a tough time with XCOM: Enemy Unknown? If so check out the help and hint thread to see if experts can assist with any missions yo are stuck on. Finally if you have been playing Dishonered talk about what your impressions are as well as what you think of the game on the discussion thread about the game.

Lovable Lists

I had to go back to the backlog once again this week but I have some interesting ones at least. KurbiosShoe (man I wish that was my username) has created a list of video game objects he wished he had in his possession. MysertiousBob has created a list of characters that aren't "good" per-say but he still kind of likes one way or another. Finally Giant Bomb user Costello has created a list of all the games he has played that did not have quests or a quest system in them.
