"What's your nam..

JAMES BOND!"

What? How can you get that wrong?

Here is a piece of Bond information that blew my mind. It's not explained in the movies, but it makes PERFECT sense.

Do you know why "James Bond" has been in service since the 1960's? AND why he is often different people on screen? It's because "James Bond" is as much a code name as "007". Different people inherent the name at different times and it passes on to other people when the previous "James Bond" retires. (Just like "M" and "Q"). It also explains why "M" has to develop a new relationship with Daniel Craig's "James Bond" In Casino Royale, especially if it was the same dude that just saved her ass in the previous movie. Plus, Casino Royale is the movie where "James Bond" ranks up to "00" status; he would've had that before, unless it was a different person altogether.

And, if you pay attention, you can see how the previous "James Bond" retires. Timothy Daughton was kicked out for going rogue or something. Pierce Bronsnan's Bond left Mi6 with some girl never to be seen again. (Pay attention to the final scene of each of the actor's last movies)

BOOM.

I'm a James Bond fan and this IS pretty disgusting. Plus the story line doesn't make any sense since not only is each James Bond a different person but the Daniel Craig James Bond is supposed to be a reboot of the character, effectively making him the first James Bond in this time line. [And the opening shot, where the girl shoots Bond on the train, is from Skyfall so they're obviously using the new time line.] Him having his life flash before his eyes to past missions he's been on makes no fucking sense on multiple levels.

Yeah.. No. You are wrong. Go read this: James Bond is a Time Lord

This seems dull at best, and unwatchable were it not for Jeff and Vinny's commentary,

Posted by DualFayte

the definition of an extremely average game. Something about the shooting felt off

Posted by PATJASA

How does a COD soldiers clearly have more pockets and properly dressed to hold multiple guns have only two weapon slots and James Bond has three while wearing a fucking suit?! This is not making any sense! Fuck video games!

Nice to hear some props for Everything or Nothing, that was a great game!

Also that was the Aperture Science jet-building facility.

@AndyAce83: It might not reinvent the RPG genre, but I'm sure that it will stay close to the source material as far as presentation goes and won't shoot itself in the foot trying to pretend the source material is something that it isn't. James Bond movies are not filled with Bond using an AK-47 to get from one set piece to another, and that is all that this game is trying to be. Even in the opening seconds of actual gameplay, the character is walking through a place filled with exploding jets for absolutely no reason.

That doesn't matter if someone comes to a review with a negative bias towards the source material. If the game is not good, then the game is not good. I don't like much of the Simpsons episodes in the past decade or so, but the movie (and the game for that matter) was highly entertaining.

I think the game got what it deserved. A fair review that doesn't just point at it's faults. So here's the positive thing about 007 Legends, it controls like Call of Duty. Is the graphics amazing? No. Is there a deep fiction that this game brings to the 007 universe? No.

THANK YOU!!! I feel like Everything or Nothing is forgotten and not appreciated. I love that game

Edited by AndyAce83

@TurboMan: And people are probably tiered of RPG games when the South Park RPG game comes out. I would prophesize that the South Park RPG will not reinvent RPG gameplay but will adapt current RPG element into a South Park game.

If then, someone from Giant Bomb would review it who thought "South Park was funny once, but I am tired of that stupid show" would he give the South Park RPG a rightful review? No. Simply because a South Park, JB or any other franchise game is franchise first and game second. One has to enjoy that particular univers to get the point of the game. There are many who are willing to play less than perfect games, and love it, if its their chance to be James Bond, Batman, Superman, Toxic Avenger, Bilbo Baggins or whatever else hero they like.

A fair review enters this into the equation, not just laugh about its faults.

@AndyAce83: Here's what happened during an entire hour of gameplay from the quick look:

Go forward. Shoot Guys.

Hack this thing to move forward.

Remember this scene from the movie?

Go forward. Shoot Guys.

It doesn't matter what engine it's on, you're right. But the only thing they've done with the Call of Duty engine is make a Call of Duty game. And I think everybody has been tired of Call of Duty games for about 3 years now.

So... you think this game does the Bond films justice? Do you feel that this game perfectly immerses you into the world of a James Bond movie? Do you believe that this game is something more than the development team slapping the Call of Duty engine with the James Bond logo?

I think that the info I got from this "First look" is not adequate to make judgment as it is not told trough the eyes of someone who gives to sticks in this franchise. I do not think which engine used to make this game enters into the final result.

@Nuklear:

I'm aware I don't have to use profanity.

Good.

However, I feel a few intelligent things were said about how Activision was treating the Bond license even if they knew little about it.

I agree about the FPS stuff, but the rest was nonsense.

I don't want to get into a larger review argument, but a review is different from a critique of a game. And both a review and critique are different from a quick look. Purely stating your opinions on a game is a critique whereas a review stands more as a guide for consumers on how to spend their money. The quick look serves you a bit of critique with a bunch of gameplay footage for you to draw you own conclusions.

I am aware of the diffrences and also that these lines are blurry and that all three of them are used as a guideline for consumers. The only point I was trying to make is that this "first look" should have been made by someone with a little more respect for the francise/Bond universe.

I hope for instance that the future South Park RPG game will be "first looked" and reviewed by fans of the show, not just someone who wants blood and "innovating gameplay" cuz not all games are made like that. Take the game South Park; Tenormans revenge. I loved that game, the reviewer hatted it. He obviously wouldn't appreciate the references to the show etc.

Same with RE6. Fine game, hated by the Giant Bomb. Sometimes I think the entire GB staff is filled with hipster haters who just want to mock games and franchises for vauge criterias A game is more than gameplay and graphics. Most people who buy South Park, James Bond etc are fan of that world. Reviewers should acknowledge that by having knowledge of that world. Same with well established franchises like RE6.

Best James Bond game still is Alpha Protocol i guess.

My problem is not that they are using a Call of Duty template, it is that they are using the wrong template. Most games now a day rip off other successful games and we can't do anything about that. Its the "That made money, lets do that too" business moniker. There are few occasions where it works because the developers "improved" upon the idea.

Now back to my first statement. I don't usually care if games copy each other, as long at its an enjoyable experience and worth the price I payed. The issue is that James Bond should not a CoD clone. If anything, it should be more along the lines of Deus Ex/Dishonored's choices, Hitman's infiltrations and a splash of Metal Gear theatrics. While my opinion may seem ridiculous to some, I just feel that these are the games that capture what the Bond movies are about.

Unfortunately, this may be just a cash cow for the upcoming movie.

Your knowledge of Bond movies are astonishingly bad to be reviewing a Bond game. Was there no one with more knowledge in the GB staff?

Jeff and Vinny aren't reviewing the game. Quick Looks are not reviews. Furthermore, your premise is flawed. You don't have to know shit about the source material to have opinions about a video game.

Also, holy Jesus, did they put actual Call of Duty assets into the UI for this game? It's fucking ridiculous.

First of, LANGUAGE! You dont have to use profanities, sailor! Secondly, it may not be build up like a review (with a conclusion and star rating) but they are clearly stating their opinion again and again. It got 2 stars, and this video gives no impression otherwise.

Secondly, the more one knows about a franchise the better their talk will be. This video was just ranting gibberish and nonsense. It would have been nice to hear someone with something intelligent to say, not just singing the theme song and laughing nonsensically.

I'm aware I don't have to use profanity. I prefer to! None of it was directed at you.

You are correct that Jeff and Vinny give little insight into how Bond-esque this game is, but I feel they certainly can give opinions about the game's overall presentation, how it controls, and other, purely gamey, aspects. However, I feel a few intelligent things were said about how Activision was treating the Bond license even if they knew little about it.

Jeff is right, chasing Goldeneye turned James Bond into a shit, me-too FPS IP. Still waiting for an Alpha Protocol style game in that universe, seems like a no brainer.

@zombiesatemycereal: Quick looks are opinionated videoblogs. They do tell a lot about a game and will affect gamers views on Giant Bomb.

Hey, look at that. I came back after finishing Dishonored, tried to fast-forward to the part I left off at, and the whole thing crapped-out yet again. Guess I'll reload... this... hour and twenty minute Quick Look.

Y'know, usually I love long Quick Looks, but maybe they should keep them under an hour until we get a real video player?

From Russia With Love was good fun. This, however, does not seem to be. Bummer?

I was an hour and ten minutes into this Quick Look, wanted to rewind ten seconds, whole video craps out on me, ignores its previous load, and now I have to reload the whole thing just to watch the last ten minutes.

Boo Gamespot video player! Boooo! Your users might not care about your crappy videos, but I love Giant Bomb's crappy videos!
