@uhohlovehascometotown: Classic classic SHODAN, oh SHODAN.

@Fattony12000: classic.

Man I hope BioShock Infinite has deeper character progression and some kind of inventory, because I love NG+ in that game but it just needed to be a little deeper. I hope they learned from the likes of Deus Ex: HR and Dishonored.

Edited by MisterCrow

This is one of those games where when someone is talking you should probably just stand still and listen. He was getting a lot of simultaneous sounds / voices getting cut off by other voices.

Posted by Nerolus

This... is... AWESOME.

I second the idea that you should make a video of your computer assembly.

Ah, that System Shock 2 drum'n bass. Listen to Hydroponics - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVqS6ffvDhs

Yea, some of the voice acting is middling, but Polito is fantastic, even if you don't know what's coming, and some of the audio logs get pretty dark. Was kind of too bad that Patrick didn't progress further, and actually start finding out about the Many.

In my top 5.

Posted by Xeirus

Really wish they would start banning people who do nothing but talk shit about Patrick just to start arguments. So fucking annoying...

Posted by csl316

That Titans fan talking smack about the Bears... oh boy.  It'd be nice if this video had an updated caption saying how we smoked Tennessee 51-20 that weekend.

Having never played a System Shock game before, I was surprised at how much of that DNA seems to carry over to Bioshock.

Bioshock is basically the same game as SS2, even with the plot progression, and major beats.

It looks a lot prettier, it is streamlined in others, but sadly a lot of systems are dumbed down for Bioshock, which is a shame. And it's a lot easier too than System Shock.

I love Bioshock too, but it's got nothing over SS2.

Posted by defcomm

I didn't realize how much of Deus Ex I had confused with System Shock. I just have the worst memory.

Posted by AssInAss

The time before dynamic music, lol. Hearing that techno music play out at 33:37 when there was nothing happening.

Edited by Romination

The voice acting is terrible.

I'd always heard that Bioshock was essentially an underwater System Shock 2, but holy shit, it's so much just that that I'm completely shocked.

Are a lot of these guys who hate Patrick also haters of Brad Nicholson and Alex Navarro? Seems there are some people who just don't want anyone except the original 4 and Dave.

And Drew.

Lol Patrick talking about the chat trolling him is so funny.

Posted by bkbroiler

@GalacticPunt: The AV Club has a gaming section called The Gamelogical Society (yeah, terrible name). I don't go there THAT often, since I hate the way their comments are formatted, bu they have decent articles and pretty intelligent people talking about games. Check it out!

@bkbroiler: I wish things worked that way, but whenever I look at comments at CNN.com or HuffingtonPost.com, it's clear that many people, perhaps most people, remain hateful, ignorant, cunts well into their 60's and 70's.

I'm not just talking about political topics. Give an adult a computer and a sense of anonymity and they will spew judgemental, misspelled garbage at everyone else.

Humanity is just terrible...

I've personally found GiantBomb to have the best ratio of entertaining vs. trolling comments among the video game sites. If you've found better I'd honestly like to try them out.

I mostly want to watch to see how the hell he gets the game to run.

Having played through System Shock 2 before, in 4 player co-op none the less, I just couldn't keep watching as Patrick ran into room after room without first carefully looking for security cameras. Got flashbacks to my first monkey encounter, when I probably stood immobile by that window for at least 10 minutes trying to figure out if I should attack it or just avoid that room.

Also, what is it with people today not appreciating one of the most atmospheric eras of electronic music (maybe second after the late 70's with Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze)? The System Shock 2 soundtrack is fucking amazing, though I don't think it's supposed to be looping the drum heavy part when you're not in combat or near enemies, I think something may have bugged out, or maybe there always were monsters aware of him, due to how he couldn't help but to walk in front of every camera and never using the sneak/walk button.

hey what happened to SHODAN? It's Friday the 13th now. Is the SS2 piece archived?

Going back a decade, this is what Patrick presumably used to look like:

Great feature. Only watched 45 minutes or so so far, but it's fun to see someone experience SS2 for the first time. The reactions and stuff feel similar to when I first played it -- takes me back. I also believe the code for that door that you tried to hack is 00000. Could be wrong though, it's been a while. I remember punching it in since I didn't know the code. Good times.

Also, you don't have to reload a savegame when you die. That's what the machine was for -- the one that had the spinning hologram. They're sort of like checkpoints and will revive you when you die, provided you have enough nanites and that you've activated it in the section of the ship you're at (if I remember correctly).

PS. the music is by Eric Brosius, and it's fantastic. Especially the "Med Sci" section.

Hooray! no more Mac book air. Also the System Shock 2 community deserves some applause.

I will say, I really enjoyed this episode and it's the first one so far that I've enjoyed. I hope these continue, with Patrick getting a bit better at streaming (which he totally is), but I hope they tone them down in the next few weeks. I know it's cuz of Halloween and being in with the season, but I miss me some jar time with Jeff and random pc games with vinny and the rest of the crew. Overall though, great job!

It's so funny. How the hell does the very best gaming site on the web harbor the very worst in trolls and immature manchildren. Never ceases to amaze.

At the risk of being a hypocrite on multiple levels, the main audience for video games are either young people or adults that haven't really grown up yet. They don't know how to conduct themselves appropriately yet.

Loved this stream.

I hope we get to see Patrick's reaction to the handmaiden ladies.

@SargeGulp: Not really, Dead Space has lineage in RE more than System Shock imo.

Bioshock takes more from System Shock really

Posted by dvorak

@cikame: I'm just talking about the quality level.

Posted by JeffGerstFan

This will be a great feature once Scoops figures out the streaming stuff! I cant wait for all the future Spooks coming to the site!

Edited by SargeGulp

@Tremore:I wasn't aware Dead Space was initially supposed to be the series reboot /system shock 3. Having never played Dead Space I wonder if it's lineage is evident?

@Turambar: Sorry but I don't think you can necessarily separate the two. I interpreted the comment to mean he didn't like the video. Since the personalities are part of the actual content on this site.

@Sharpless: That was well put.

Name suggestions for this subscriber feature, while we're at it? On the Road Again w/ Jeff & Ryan? Vacation, All They Ever Wanted? Dude, Where's Jeff & Ryan?

The only good answer?

Sorry Guys, I Think The Stream Crashed Because the Twitch App Sucks

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and calling this Hate-Speech seems a little ridiculous in context. This is one of the more niche areas of premium membership content(which I thoroughly enjoy) and it's still finding it's footing, but it isn't going to be for everyone. Telling people to just ignore what they don't like sounds worse to me than having them air opinions that I don't happen to agree with.

But the original comment wasn't a criticism of the video, constructive or otherwise, now was it?

Good luck on any Resident Evil 1.5 endeavors, Patrick. The last I heard about it, it started with a guy on Youtube posting videos that he had it, showing the disc itself and the Playstation he was playing it on. He caught the eye of a Resident Evil fansite ("The Horror Is Alive", I think) and they pressed him for more information including if it was possible that he could rip the disc and post it online.

Unfortunately for them, the guy was a collector of rare game betas and didn't like the idea of devaluing his investment by ripping the disc. I don't quite remember, but I think they offered to pay him for it or something like that, and tried to pool together donation money? And I wanna say that he ended up getting cold feet - but despite that, he continued to publicly taunt the Resident Evil fansite with the disc. As I recall the whole situation escalated to the point where he refuses to admit he's even the same guy anymore because he wants to be left alone after basically stirring up a hornets nest by being a jerk about the whole thing.

But this was all like five or six years ago, and I only read about it months after the fact, so my memory is a little hazy. You might not even be talking about the same person, either.

I actually purchased a copy of the game on ebay, but I'm having trouble locating a download link for the OSX application Patrick used in this Spookin' stream. If anyone can share a link I'd appreciate it. :-)

im not gonna set here and tell you that your wrong, if you dont like the dude you dont like the dude

but seriously, whats the fucking point of posting this in a patrick klepek centric video other than to look for validation of your opinion from fellow pricks?. or to rile up the comments section?

the dude is here to stay so if he bothers you assholes so much, then cancel your membership and gtfo and let us who enjoy the content enjoy the content,

Hear Hear good sir! yes indeed!

Lols. So much anger and butthurt and childish insecurity (on behalf of the Klepek haters). Pretty amazing actually that you have such little to do with your life, that posting mongoloid hatespeech on an Internet site makes sense to you.
