The delayed releases are really good at taking away the interest I had in getting DLC. I completely forgot about the other DLC and now I have no interest in getting it at all. This one will probably be the same.

Yep. Bethesda completely squandered the addon potential of Skyrim with this garbage. Also, as a PC, PS3 and 360 owner, I'd really appreciate it if companies stopped selling exclusivity rights. It's just a giant "fuck you" to everyone. It improves no one's experience, it only worsens it for some.

Incorrect. As they are paid for timed exclusives, this equates to more money to sink into development of DLC or future games. More money = better staff, more time in testing, better perfomance. And everyone gets to play it eventually, unlike an actual exclusive. Thus, with timed exclusives, everyone wins.

Its still a shitty practice, especially in this case where the pc version is the best version of the game. Im not gonna go buy it on my 360 to play it 30 days early.

Neither am I! But the money Bethesda gets for selling those 30 days to Microsoft mean a lot more to their company than they do to us as gamers, waiting 30 days to play a video game. We're not exactly talking about life-saving medicine here.

Not sure how I feel about this exclusivity crap. Isn't the intent the same as a regular monopoly?

@Veektarius: Glad you can be an optimist about this. You might be right. But it could just as easily be "More money = more cash for shareholders and a raise for the marketing team". And I do think the exclusivity bit does hurt sales in the long run by killing the hype for the alternative platforms, and harming the goodwill of the customers who get "excluded". But that's just a difference of opinion.

If you're on PS3, selling the game and rebuying it for PC seems like the best solution. It's been on sale a good number of times, you can easily transfer your save, and even with a crappy PC you can get it to look better. Also, mods.

I would say, sell your PS3 copy and buy a used version on Xbox 360. Bethesda does not deserve more of your money.

Sure, if you really hate Bethesda and don't want mods.

Has nothing to do with hating Bethesda. He's already given Bethesda money for the PS3 version - why reward them with more money? As for mods - you're right. That is a drawback for 360 version. On the other hand, you do get the DLC earlier than everyone else.

135mb of RAM? Where? On the PS3? I thought the PS3 had 256mb dedicated to VRAM and 256mb for system RAM?

Both correct, but the XMB on the PS3 and general operating system stuff uses almost half of the 256MBs of system RAM. Comparably the same systems use about 70MBs on the xbox 360.

Ah, gotcha. That's what I thought.

Downloading Dragonborn when I get home!!

I think Bethesda should just invoke the Phil Fish law on the PS3 version of Skyrim.

"Fixing it would be hard and expensive, so we don't wanna."

Gamers seemed to be cool with it last time.

I bought Skyrim on day one and I'd absolutely love to support them by buying all the DLC at full price on release to keep supporting them. However, this whole Microsoft exclusivity agreement makes me feel like waiting until the DLC is 75% off as I really just don't want to support that kind of business deal/plans. Winter sale or bust, Bethesda. At least in my book... little as it's worth.

I thankfully didn't suffer the problems a lot of people seemed to on PS3. The worst was 3 or 4 hard locks over the 120 hours I put into it. This was orders of magnitude better than New Vegas (I loved the game, but it was borderline unplayable for me).

I'll buy it. I shouldn't seeing as how I didn't visit all the locations in the main game but whatever.

At this point, I think wait it out for a game of the year edition with the lot in.

@Divina_Rex: Potential solution is to take the drafting tables out of your home - no more freezes.

Posted by Nekroskop

I really don't care about Skyrim anymore. It definitely didn't deserve GotY last year.

Fucking Micro$oft always securing early DLC exclusivity. I really wonder how much money they throw at developers/publishers just to do this.

I feel worse for poor Bethesda who has to make an open world game on 135MBs of RAM. They may as well try and make an iphone version if they can pull that off. Timed exclusives are really gross, though. Especially such a massive gap on them. I wonder how much Microsoft had to pay them to get that advantage. I certainly hope no one is picking platforms based on timed DLC windows.

Oblivion on PS3 was perfect, this is pretty sad. Thankfully I have the other versions to play.

"I don't see the appeal of Skyrim DLC on the PC when you have hundreds and hundreds of free mods to mess with."

I have many, many mods on pc. And skyrim dlc is MORE tempting to me than many others who play vanilla skyrim on a console. Because my skyrim now has so many more features, immersive touches, etc. It's a better game, and thus you want the new content for a better game - more than you want new content for a lesser game.

Mods make skyrim incredible, however they don't expand game content in the same way. What bethesda can do in months would take a modding team five or ten years. So a bethesda dlc is a different beast entirely. Do I want the leveling to expand and respect higher level gameplay, or do I want combat system to feel more tactical and less 'mashy'? Do I want npc's to be covered in snow, or hundreds of new creatures? I can turn to mods for that and hundreds of other small additions.

Mods change the existing game in meaningful ways, what they don't do - is add a new worldspace. Add a new %'tage of actual game to skyrim. Betheda does that, and that's something else entirely in terms of excitement. One kind of skyrim improvement is not all encompassing. There are many kinds.

Edit: It's a better game, however it's also a more crash prone game if you don't spend a few solid hours understanding load orders, mod cleaning, etc. So it's not perfect either. I'm not trying to give that impression.

There's a couple of decent mods that add new world space, like Moonpath to Elseweyr. The amateur voice-acting is even mostly not-terrible!

But yeah, you're right. I play with a shit load of mods but no matter how big and polished some of them are, it's just not the same as the real DLC.

Posted by Marcness

Hmm? Elsewhere? Or Elsweyr? J'Zargo shall wait for the answer....

Posted by Solh0und

Skyrim is still borked on PS3 regardless.

Posted by marbleCmoney

Bummed this is a timed exclusive. I completely lost any interest I had in playing Dawnguard because I had to wait for it on PC. I could easily see that happening with Dragonborn too.

Posted by Divina_Rex

Hearthfire broke my Skyrim. I have no mods install and even reinstalled Skyrim to no avail. It just freezes randomly.

@BaconGames: Dude, you should totally play Morrowind, it's amazing :P And yeah, the stuff they're doing in this upcoming DLC seems really cool.

This.

Morrowind was (and still is) amazing. The exotic look and feel of the world is much more interesting than high fantasy (Oblivion) or Nordic folklore (Skyrim).

Microsoft are such a bunch of cunts, nobody is going to play Skyrim on 360 over PC just for shitty DLC. Great that they dick over the platform with an OS they make too.

I see it like this, Bethesda's games are usually extremely buggy.. so the Xbox 360 gets to beta test it for the rest of us !

I'm not buying your damn box, Microsoft. Keep this crap up and I'll switch to Linux, too.

The game is still completely unplayable on the PS3, so who gives a fuck if the DLC is coming to PS3 or not. I really wanted to like that game, but I'm going to have a hard time supporting any more of their games when they're shitting all over a third of their potential audience.

This.

Does anyone know if there are sales figures of skyrim 360 vs PC? I know a lot more people that bought it for PC instead of 360

Exactly. Timed releases for different platforms is just bad for consumers and it's especially annoying when it's released first on a inferiority version.

The Iphone 5 has 1GB of memory, way more than the PS3. Even the 3GS had 256MB. The Galaxy S3 has 2GB. It's kind of insane the power you can get in a phone now.

Screw Bethesda. They released broken product after broken product on the PS3. They're going into the same bin I put Molyneux's games in: "Only buy if a gun is placed to my head."
