Well done capcom

Seems like everything Capcom does is met with criticism....
Well, Capcom, I appreciate what this is. You are A-OK in my books.
This.
While I was watching the video, I kept thinking, "Man, it would be cool if they made this a real game, and they gave it away for free for fans."
I'm... more than a little surprised that it actually was.

I was thinking EXACTLY this as well.
But to be honest, I kinda would like it more if they just put out a full Megaman retail product sometime in the future.
Glad it is more than just SF2 characters, looks pretty fun even if I'm not big on Mega Man.
Why still the 8-bit? I think everyone is in agreement that the SNES 16bit era was the best! Seriously Capcom, how many times do you get it wrong! lol
@Halberdierv2: and then distributed by capcom instead of shut down for infringement. y'know like they acknowledge at the top of the video.
@heatDrive88: If we're talking a game purely in the style of Mega Man/X, it is highly unlikely there will ever be another retail product of a standalone Mega Man Game.
I wish I could find the article, but basically the last time it was approached, the official response from Capcom was that the platformers do not have enough content to be considered retail price worthy. The closest we'd see is another Mega Man Zero or ZX, which I would love to see. Although I'd rather then put out Legends 3, or some sort of crazy sequel to Command Mission.
How can a company that has the time and desire to do something this straightforwardly cool end up making so many other poor decisions? Weird. This is great though.
I thought, "This is Capcom, so what's the catch?" until I read it was a fan-made project.

I think this is really sweet of Capcom; good on them.
For comparisons sake, remember what Nintendo did for Mario's 25th? Yeahhh..

Looking forward to it, but have to wonder how much of this is because of Street Fighter. Would Capcom have been so willing to endorse a fan game in place of their inability to put forth a game of their own? No, probably not.
Hopefully, Capcom get their act together in the meantime.

get it wrong? I think you're mistaken. X is far less iconic than 8-bit megaman.
How.... how very UNCAPCOM-like? I wonder what happened inside the company to make this happen? Was there any major shakeups internally?
If there was one company I'd have bet on not taking advantage of fan's love and devotion, it'd have been Capcom
This game existing makes me happy, Capcom pulling such a progressive move and officially supporting it makes me even happier. I really hope this blows up and completely changes the way companies like Sega and Square Enix handle fan games.
Also, is that Urien at 1:20? Why does he appear to have his own weapon energy bar?

Megaman is and always will be 8-bit for me. Megaman 1-3 is all I care about. Loved the Megaman 2 style intro.

@Terramagi: Capcom isn't a person. It can't die.
Also, why, exactly?
My rage for MML3 will burn longer and brighter than the cosmos themselves.

I don't remember Metroid 25th at all! D:

There is only one cosmos.
Also, oh.
I kind of had realized that Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 were terrible games before 3 got cancelled, so I can't really stand behind you on that one. I actually fully understand Capcom there. Those games haven't aged well at all, so 3 would have to be either so different than the few core fans whine about it or so faithful that nobody else gives a crap.
Proof positive being me not giving a crap, I guess.
Anyway, that's fine. Feel free to seethe. I'll be over here playing some games.
Gaaaah why does it have to have the shitty slide and charge shots! I WAS excited for this -_-
People on the internet complaining about a free Mega Man game? Preposterous!
(also will get & play this if it at least has controller support cause i'm not a crazy person.)
this is so damn cool...i really wish they would have ported Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 to PC
@Hawker: The charge shot and slide were and are excellent complements to the series as a whole. Believe me, I love Mega Man with and without it, but one of my favorites still remains to be Mega Man 6. Those different suits, the ability to slide and use the charge shot make how you approach every encounter different.
I can't wait to see how this game comes together.
So, if you finish this without dying, does Akuma jump out and kill Wily with Shun Goku Satsu?
Why don't people love Megaman 4-6? They're real similar to 1-3. Is it the charging up that people don't like? I found 4 and 5 to be almost as good as 2, and better than 1 or 3.
@infestedandy:I dunno, I've just never enjoyed them, I started with MM9 and then I went back to the older ones, and as soon as charge and slide were introduced I just ceased to have fun, then again I just hate charge shots in general, gets so irritating running around with your finger held on the button waiting for something to shoot -_-

I actually enjoy 4 and 5 (not so much 6 though it has its moments), but I can see why these are generally looked down upon. Pretty much every weapon in 2 and 3 was useful at some point, but this wasn't quite the case in 4 and by the time 5 rolled around you mainly just stuck to the mega buster. Difficulty also gradually decreased between these three games and the music isn't generally as memorable as in 1-3.
Now, as to this Street Fighter X Mega Man game, I have mixed feeling about it. It looks really fun and solidly made so I'll definitely be picking it up. On the other hand, this was a fangame which would have probably come out around now anyway and it being made official just sort of brings attention back to how much of a mess Capcom has made of the franchise recently - "Hey, we cancelled Mega Man Universe and Legends 3, but don't worry because we're making this weird iphone RPG thing and we're calling this fangame we found an official thing for Mega Man's anniversary!"

I get the joke you're making, but it's actually quite the contrary. This is a fan project that Capcom has officially gotten behind. I really wish more companies would be like that.
Capcom wouldn't have made any effort other wise if someone hadn't have done the work for them already.
Platinum as new caretakers of Mega Man brand please. I keep thinking about a next-gen third person MM in the Vanquish vein. I guess Mega Man is relegated to this 8bit throwback shit forever now.
SEGA get on the ball and get SoRR on consoles already! Such a goddam travesty what happened with that.
@SamDrugbringer: I had no idea what Mega Man Xover was, so I looked it up and it made me super sad.
That new character design is fan-fic awful.
There has to be an agreement or a contract between Inafune and Capcom that they can not touch the old Megaman or Megaman X, that is the only reason I see for them not releasing any new Megaman games. A 2.5D Megaman X as a downloadable game would be awesome.

While I personally think MMX1 through 3 are the best of the bunch, I think you'll find that the general consensus is actually the opposite of what you're stating. There is way more love for the original NES games than for the X series. A quick trip around the Internet will prove as much.
