I'm not sure yet. But I'm cautiously optimistic, since I like both Witcher games and am a Sci-Fi fan. And if CD Project proved there's one thing they're good at it's keeping the tone of a licensed setting in their games.

@Chavtheworld: Sure. They did exploit the sex and violence angle pretty intensely as well in the final stages of the Witcher 1 marketing. Plus, for all the great story and character parts much of the world has a great deal of stereotypical fantasy elements (such as this 'old hag' character). But largely they are pretty clever and cheeky about it in my opinion. Plenty of reasons to still be bothered by it but I don't feel that way personally.

@Chavtheworld: IMHO, the nudity felt like it belonged in The Witcher. That universe was kinda sleazy from the outset. Characters can't seem to go past two sentences without using "plowing", it seemed like morally corrupt from the beginning. I wouldn't expect the same from Cyberpunk.

Mike Pondsmith the creator of the pen & paper cyberpunk genre which the game is based off is involved, He was at CD projekts conference back in september when the title of the game was released so they have someone onboard who knows this world inside and out.

I wouldn't worry as you say they did great with the Witcher series and if anyone can do a mature cyberpunk RPG justice it's them.

hmm the cyborgs arms remind me of a manga called "Eden". I liked the the way they did that with the arms then, and i like it now =)

@biospank: Well of course that guy will mostly fill a consultant post considering he probably doesn't have that much programming experience or anything like that. But he's been designing P&P games, so he could be a pretty useful resource for world and system building. If you want to expand on a universe there is no better way than having somebody to work with that invented large parts of it in the first place.

And tbh most of the GitS vibe seems to be mostly aesthetic. The robo lady with the scythes coming out of her arms, the visors the guy and she are wearing and a bit of the tech stuff. Those look like coming straight out of GitS (probably even intentional) I'm totally okay if they stay in these realms without going balls deep into the confusing mumbo jumbo pseudo-philosophy that made GitS unbearable at times. Imho Deus Ex:HR already did enough with that, to a point where it became annoying to a certain degree. It's a Role Playing Game, if i want to replace my penis with an laser chainsaw, because i'm playing an ass kicking killer android ,than let me do that without trying to put me on a guilt trip for living out my fantasies -_-

Game I am most excited for. Loved Witcher 2 and need more cyberpunk games in my life. Do we even know what kind of game it is? Action rpg like the witcher series or more of a shooter? Again, I trust CD Projeckt. Just want it now.

We have no idea what the gameplay is like. Acording to an interview they are working on ballistics so I guess it has to be a shooter.

My guess is a third person shooter with RPG abilities, similar to Deus Ex. As in cyber enhancements (ability to run or jump really high, crazy cyber implant weapons like those blades the girl has, etc). Maybe with a party or partner alongside you.

Really interested to see what the combat turns out to be like.

This is looking very Ghost in the Shell (mostly SAC perhaps) meets a little bit of Blade Runner. Cyberpunky of course.

I remain curious to see where this is going. These guys don't fuck around and this could be pretty special.

I want these guys to keep doing stuff and telling stories that wouldn't get past focus groups at EA and Activision.

In the PnP game that this video game is based on, cybernetic implants affected your humanity/personality. The more cybernetics you had installed in your body, the more likely it was that you would snap at some point and have some sort of reaction, ranging from becoming severely antisocial to going on a murderous rampage.

Style and sexiness also heavily factored into the game rules, which is probably why the trailer chose to focus on what looks to be a heavily-augmented attractive female.

Also, seeing the Night City PD badge on the cop towards the end gave me serious old-school role-playing nostalgia flashbacks

After getting hyped up I watched the official youtube channel and watch the summer thing that cd project red had. and he is one of the dudes that is going to expand the world in the pnp game so it can go into the video game. If I rember some minutes correctly.

But the whole GitS is bothering me because the whole story more or less is about the perception of human mind and if you've where one of the people that liked it for the story and its brilliance at that. Where the show and manga brings more questions then answers to the audience, and if you don't like the whole philosophy with the mind then the point of series as a whole is pointless IMO.

Because as I could remember it the whole story arc of "The Laughing Man" was more or less philosophical in the end where, he was not sure about humans and what makes human, human in the sense of the word. After all he had a perception, so why was he less then human? That was the whole point of that arc to question the audience instead of giving them a simple moral answer which would make the whole arc pointless if they would do that.

I wish more films or games would do that but its quite hard to pull it off because of the whole reading modern philosophy and understanding it to the level of master wizard. And then dumb it down a little for normal audience like you and me .

Then leave clues for a second run-trough of said film, TV show or video game.

So yes maybe people that really did not get the whole philosophy of GitS. Would only see it as a sexual attractive human looking robot that fights crime, and other robots goes berserk and then she comes in. And then they have meaningless conversation that is just a filler for the next episode or scene. Then I either feel really dumb for paying attention at it all or just person that loves anime and some manga that gets obsessed with it, if its a great story to be told.

I hope there's a lot of detective style missions.

They really know how to make trailers though - or at least, know the right people to outsource that shit to. That was great. And the trailer for Witcher 2 enhanced edition is probably the best trailer I've ever seen.

I'll have to look for the article, but I could have sworn that the devs said the character is player created; there was something about how the customizability of the main character was comparable to how you made your character in the PnP that this game is based on.
