Not to sure about this one one says to be for the arcade version and the other for the snes are they really that different?

The NES and Arcade Double Dragons were pretty darn different. While the arcade game was a straight up 2 player beat 'em up, the NES version added an RPG-like level system, removed the 2 player simultaneous play (except for in the special vs. mode), additional moves, fewer enemies on screen at a time (only 2 iirc and they had to be the same type of enemy), there were additional stages, the second stage had a new boss and I'm sure there's more.
I really love those Arcade -> NES translations that resulted in completely different games. The Capcom stuff is the most notable (especially Strider and Bionic Commando), but there were some other memorable ones (such as Double Dragon). What a terrific little system.
