So some dude who is in the Alpha must have accidentally hit the Share button or something, because he ended up streaming like an hour's worth of Destiny campaign gameplay.

I guess Bungie and Activision would be pretty pissed, if the game wouldn't look so god damn great - but have a look for yourself. It's been taken off youtube, but currently the footage still persists on Daily Motion. Here you go...

Enjoy!

Linky no work.

Looks like a pretty uninspired mix between Halo and Borderlands. Though it's hard to get a sense of the scale in this one video, and I'll withhold judgement given that it's in alpha.

I realize this is shitty compressed footage and the game is still in development, but it looks pretty bad. It will be interesting to see how the final game looks compared to this early glimpse.

Yeah none of those links work, not that I care about Destiny anyway.

Man, still looks so boring. Have a beta key redeemed so I'll give that a shot.

Yeah, this looks....boring.

Maybe the whole loot stuff is what makes this game interesting? Because I watched some of that footage and it's a shooter.

Is that Peter Dinklage in the first video at 00:21?

#11 Posted by CorruptedEvil (3415 posts) -

I doubt it was an accident in the slightest, seems like a great way to instantly get 100s of Twitch followers.

Yah I dunno about great it looks like a more generic sci version of Borderlands.

I always thought that combining first person gameplay with rpg elements is a bad idea. When you shoot something in the head it should die. Emptying entire clips into a single bad guy really defeats the point of first person gameplay.

Yes.

man, I've been seeing this on other message boards with broken links all the time. Bungie and Activision are on full force trying to pull this down.

Also, not quite the Sir Paul McCartney music I was expecting. I was hoping "Live and Let Die" Wings style music

I don't know what you guys aren't seeing, but here's what I'm seeing...

...a game with all the hooks of WoW, including persistent characters that'll stick around for all the Destiny games to come - so it's a MMORPG that plays like Halo, only there's also lots of much more open zones, about as big and open as the Stalker games were, and it looks to be just as atmospheric and crammed full of explorable structures like caves and abandoned underground compounds and whatnot, and sweet sweet treasure to loot.

So I'll like quest on my own, which will feel like a more open Halo game (or a more arcadey Stalker game), then I will team up with dudes for like WoW-style instanced dungeons, level-up and grab more powerful loot, then I'll go shoot people in the face in PvP, by which I'll level up some more and get even more loot, join forces with even more players to go on raids or do public events and god knows what...

...essentially, I see a Sci-Fi World of Warcraft that plays like a Halo-game, with the whole breadth of content and persistence of progress I expect of a MMORPG, whilst playing like a tight fucking shooter. What's not to like? Of course, if you disregard the immense compelling nature of its MMORPG trappings, you might just see another shooty-shoot-shooter in the vein of Borderlands - but we all know it's more than that.

On top of that there's the promise of vehicular warfare, and pimping my ride RPG-style. Come on!

P.S. This is obviously very low-level content, I'm certain the action and excitement and challenge will ramp up to frantic levels. This footage is the equivalent of killing Hogger in WoW. While I don't know how *killing Ragnaros in Destiny* will be like exactly, I know it will be a whole lot more exciting than this.

I didn't watch everything, but the stuff I saw looked like a pretty generic shooter, either it's a very early build of the game, or there's some other hook that didn't get shown. (Or it's a pretty boring game, but I hope that's not the case...)

@seppli: I did not get the feeling it was an 'open world' from those vids, but you could be right. There's a big chance that when you play this yourself you'll get hooked on the MMO / RPG aspects of the game and no doubt it will be alot of fun when you teamup with friends. I've still got some hope this will be an awesome title.

Well i can view the videos if i got to daily motion and search for them. Your links just don't work for some reason

No one is calling out the fact that man basically said "Shoot that wizard!" in a sci-fi game? Nobody?

I wanted to. It was just too hilarious.

Bungie always had high TTK (time to kill) gameplay, and it was always pretty darn great because of it. You can't be fighting smart AI, when all it takes is one shot to the temple to down them. Like playing Halo on the highest difficulty, it takes like 10 shots to the head with a DMR to down some of the enemies.

In the context of the Destiny universe, the high TTK gameplay makes a lot of sense, and design and gameplay-wise, I think Bungie has proven that they are the masters of high TTK FPS games.

#24 Edited by Karkarov (3113 posts) -

Seriously, show some respect to the people making the games and take this crap down. The media also have access to the current alpha (maybe even giantbomb staff who knows) so why don't we wait until someone who isn't an idiot who sucks at games and is just trying to scam his way to some easy twitch followers has something to say about the game.

Meanwhile I have multiple friends in the alpha and all they are telling me is they have put their preorders in.

#25 Posted by Humanity (9306 posts) -

@seppli: Well they are masters for a particular crowd. I always found the Halo games really obnoxious because of this. Although this looks more like Borderlands where you're actually doing variable amounts of damage depending on your weapon and modifiers. I liked Borderlands despite the really hammy gameplay so I might get into this. Still, unless you are taking out bad guys with one shot to the temple, as it should be none of this Halo nonsense, then just make your game Third Person - I mean a huge factor of RPG games is seeing how cool your character looks which is completely lost in first person anyway.

So they love it? Or not? Your sentence is kinda ambiguous.

It didnt looked all that hot ... also dissapearing bodies? We are still on that? Wasnt these consoless supposed to be all owerfull and stuff? Also the sound of the gun is terrible , I dunno guys I wasnt skeptical of the game until now :/

Edit: Well it looks the bodies does stay on the second vid.... maybe it is enabled/dissabled in certain cituations , or could be the alha state?

I was pissed at bungie for not releasing this on pc but after watching all the trailers they released plus this footage I'm gonna go ahead and say meh.

This screams generic shooter. It's like Halo without the charm.

I guess that's why one switches to 3rd person when one uses a class power. And really, in MMOs it's more about being seen, not about seeing oneself.

#30 Edited by xyzygy (9999 posts) -

I still think this game just looks like Borderlands with a touch of Bungie (aka Halo). They need to show us something unique about the game!

Yeah UK. ISPs sometimes block stuff like torrent sites, but I've never seen anything else blocked.

as a person who loves borderlands, this game could be my fave game of all time if its good.

#33 Posted by EXTomar (4745 posts) -

I'll say the same thing I said about TitanFall: Looks boring.

#34 Posted by Dimi3je (325 posts) -

Still hoping for a PC version...

#35 Posted by Wampa1 (675 posts) -

@xite: Forget that, he also said that "wizards were contained on the moon" That is some trippy mid 70's sci-fi writing if I ever heard it. Is Dinklage meant to sound flat since he's some sort of machine? He sounded kind of tired and uninterested.

#36 Edited by Ares42 (2677 posts) -

Damn, Dinklages performance is terrible =/ Sounds like he's reading a book for his kids or something.

As for the game, it still looks like Borderlands without the flair to me. Never understood why people liked Halos aesthetics, and this has the same kinda generic space thing going on.

#37 Posted by Falconer (1690 posts) -

I think he sounds pretty dope... And if you don't like his character, it's not like you can blame him. It's all on the voice director person to tell the voice actor what they're looking for.

#38 Posted by Flacracker (1674 posts) -

Well Bungie is still doing that thing where they don't put the crosshair in the center of the screen. The gameplay looks like a shootey game... whatever. Also, people say that is Peter Dinklage? That is kind of unfortunate because the voice acting just sounds bad.

#39 Posted by Kain55 (129 posts) -

From what I've been able to gather, it looks like Borderlands without the ridiculously garbage shooting that comes along with those games. The leveling progression for characters and weapons that's been shown and stuff also seems a bit more in depth and interesting. Of course without having played I can't say anything definitive, but if they actually pull off even just a Borderlands style game with Bungie quality shooting then I am completely on board. We shall see I suppose.

Hopefully they finally show some of the competitive multiplayer at E3 this week. It would be really nice to see how the different classes look fighting against each other.

#40 Posted by Deadlydog (161 posts) -

This voice acting is awful.

#41 Edited by Fredchuckdave (5505 posts) -

That's some Doom 3/Killzone 2/Borderlands action.

#42 Edited by mrfluke (5166 posts) -

Yea, i hope there's something more dynamic that they are going to show at E3, cause this couldnt be more boring footage to have out of the game right now, especially when they are spending $500 million behind this game. how could they have not seen that this would happen?

Still optimistic and still have my hopes up though that itill be great because its still bungie, but im not even sure of bungie anymore after how they fired Marty......

#43 Posted by Solh0und (1775 posts) -

I'll give the beta a shot but if it doesn't wow me, I'll cancel my preorder.

#44 Posted by SomeJerk (3254 posts) -

The voice acting is placeholder, phoned-in scriptreading raw files without any kind of treatment and then the whole thing is marked as alpha, of course it sounds bad and unfitting.

#45 Posted by SASnake (340 posts) -

More Halo, pass.

#46 Posted by Pezen (1607 posts) -

I'll reserve judgement for a later day, but I do wish the game turns out better than what these videos indicate. Because those videos show a bland looking game art wise (as far as surrounding go, anyway) and the action felt really flat.

@sasnake said:

If only it was more Halo...

#48 Edited by Steadying (1253 posts) -

I think it looks kinda cool? As long as the gear has more....depth (if that makes sense) than it seems to have in those videos, I think this could be pretty interesting.

#49 Posted by Yummylee (21695 posts) -

I always find most FPS games to be pretty boring to watch, so I can't judge too harshly until I've played it myself. Though Dinklage's performance does indeed sound rather lacking... Clearly isn't putting much effort into things.

#50 Posted by Pr1mus (3918 posts) -

It sure looks like a video game. Not a very interesting one but a video game nonetheless.
