What do you think about Brad's "Daily Dota" Content?
I watch it because it's usually one of the only forms of content being released. I've never played DOTA or have any idea whats going on most the time, but I do enjoy watching it
It has captures and made a lot of people interested in Dota..
So I can only encourage it.
But on the watching front... I already play enough that i don't need to watch anyone else play, that is not a pro game, those i will watch on occasions.
It's not my thing at all, but other's do so that's awesome for them. I don't hate it, I just don't really have any DOTA interest at the moment.
Well, I mean, not everyone is interested in Dota. So for a lot of people its daily, hour plus long content we have no interest in.
I suppose. I mean, I have never watched a single Spookin' with Scoops and I think Bioforge is a terrible old game that is boring to watch, let alone play. Some content just appeals to different people.
I don't go around complaining that they're wasting time doing Bioforge streams though, unlike some people on here.
I've watched all of them, and while watching from Brad's perspective can be a bit... annoying sometimes, it's still enjoyable. I will say that @crispy, @matt, and @mattbodega make this feature for me. Without these guys, I wouldn't watch as much as I do.
I'm all for it. It's gotten me familiar with some of the workings of the game before I give it a try and it's great to get Kessler back on some GB videos.
I like it at lot. My only gripe with it, and it's not a big deal but something that should be taken as consructive criticism, is that I think he can get better at making the stream more fun to watch. For instance if he's in woods farming, nothing is happening and a huge battle is going on with Crispy, we usually just hear the other guys yell about it while watching Brad farm creeps. The newest episode had a lot of these moments at least.
Other than this I think it's great. Hope Brad keeps it daily for a while longer. :)
I am really into Dota (although still new to it) but have only watched 2 of them.
The problem I have with it is that it is literally like spectating a friend's game. There are no crazy, over the top plays because Brad is only mediocre at the game, and there is no comedic chemistry between Brad and his team.
If it was the Bomb Squad playing, it would at least be funny, but the whole thing feels like a few nobodies (EDIT: I mean "nobodies" as in they aren't pro, not that they aren't cool or anything) playing Dota over Skype, and that's what it is.....
On top of that, the chat is fucking atrocious. "hurrr #BIGPLAYS hurrr!"
Agree with this. I wouldn't mind if this transitioned to Weekly Dota with the Matts and Brad playing against another group. My favorite segment of Dota is still the first with Brad Muir and the Supergiant guys playing against the community. Everyday is too much, it ends up being more about Dota community gossip and horse trading more than commentating the game or bullshitting.
Here's my perspective:
Dota is huge right now, and brad doing this could really help the site become bigger and better (the daily dota is actually the most popular dota stream on twitch, if I'm not mistaken)
It also makes me wish jeff would do a daily stream of some kind, to appease the non-Dota fans (he actually kind of hinted at it on his tumblr when someone suggested a CSGO daily stream, and he said "This has come up. I… no. No!")
Honestly, it doesn't take up enough resources to be of concern. Brad produces it by himself, and it only incapacitates him for an hour or so.
What I'm more concerned about is patrick being on every freaking QL (not a knock against patrick, I just want more variety in my commentators). I WANT MORE VINNY/BRAD/JEFF QL's
I have no real problem with it, but I don't have the slightest interest in watching it. I find DOTA an incredibly boring and indecipherable game to watch, then again, I had the same problem with Starcraft. My only issue would be if it gave the guys an excuse to produce less normal content on a daily basis. But what do I know? A lot of people enjoy it, and more power to them.
@naru_joe93: Well, Patrick is going to be gone in a couple weeks so I don't think that will be an issue soon.
I have zero interest in either Dota or LoL though i might try out the DC game when it launches, i cant imagine anything less exciting that watching people play this type of game though. Its getting views so it obviously appeals to someone, im just not the target audiance for such a thing.
I don't play DOTA and have never actually played a MOBA but I have a pretty good time watching the Daily Dota, good times.
I've watched a few of them (only making it roughly fifteen minutes into the first one, and progressively less into later installments), and I watched that whole TNT (11 April 2013) with Greg Kasavin, Brad Muir and company. Despite all that, God help me, but I have no idea what I'm looking at the whole time. I'm sure it would make more sense if I were the one in there mixing it up, but as a pure spectator, I haven't a clue what's going on. Which is fine, I suppose; that's not a style of game for me. I enjoy hearing the crew talk about it on the Bombcast, and the free to play hooks Valve has cooked up seem devious as hell to me (but in a super-sly, James Moriarty-type fashion). But in the end, I have no interest in it, other than as a curio, one of those things of which I'll always be on the outside, looking in and thinking, 'What are you dudes up to in there?'
Now, if anyone wants to stream an hour of TIE Fighter every day... That'd be a horse of a different color.
I think its great. I've never played a MOBA but I enjoy watching this (way more than watching @brad play starcraft). I think it is some of the best content on the site.
P.S. I don't watch "professional" games of any MOBA. It's the combination of the friendly banter between Brad and the Matts and co. and DOTA that I enjoy.
It's fun to watch sometimes, but it's also depressing that pretty much everyone involved in every game- Brad and team included- act like complete dicks the whole time.
I have noticed the few times I have tried to watch that they all act like dicks. I just don't watch anymore.
yeah but what really bothers me is how Brad and his crew will be mocking their opponents and generally being dicks over skype for the entire stream and then the second their opponent get's a little cocksure or a little rival smacktalk gets thrown out Brad and Co. are the first to cry foul and say things like "Do you reckon I should report this asshole that I've been calling names on stream all game for being a dick in chat once? ahh well this dumbass has had being a little dickish archived on the internet so HAHA! poo on you random internet person!"
It just sours the whole content for me.
I'm not into Dota at all but I'm sure there has to be some Bombers who enjoy it.
I'd rather have a Endurance Run. That's something I would tune into each day.
It is decently entertaining, but as someone who has played a lot of DotA, watching Brad play can be pretty painful. I feel like he should be much better than he is for how much he has played. It seems like the people he plays with are too afraid of being elitist or jerks or whatever, so they never really call him out on basic shit he should be doing, and as a result he is improving at a very, very slow rate. But nonetheless I am really happy to see DotA content.
Haven't watched a single one and don't plan to. It just seems like an excuse to feed his addiction.
Definitely this...
I enjoyed the Doom shaking his tail feathers on both occasions lol. Kessler is hilarious, but Brad still says annoying things and man I'm not even good at Dota but his map awareness is crazy bad.
What are you talking about? I'm just going to play Spirit Breaker and sit in my lane and farm for 20 minutes. It's not like Spirit Breaker is supposed to do anything else, right?
Ugggh, that was a painful match to watch.
It is decently entertaining, but as someone who has played a lot of DotA, watching Brad play can be pretty painful. I feel like he should be much better than he is for how much he has played.
This was really shocking to me too, I'm impressed how much basic knowledge he's lacking considering how much he has played. What's he at now? Around 200 hours? And his map awareness is still teeeeeeerrible.
I think it's really good thing for new players in that they should watch what Brad does and remember not to do what Brad does.
@cloudenvy said: What's he at now? Around 200 hours? And his map awareness is still teeeeeeerrible.
90 hours, someone said in chat last night. Not sure if it was a joke.
1) I'm watching this and liking it a bunch
2) It's pre E3, this is more site content than previous years pre-E3 weeks have had
3) It's just 2-3 hours off his day, nothing that gets in the way of his work, especially pre-E3
4) Brings the community together
5) Far more interesting than SC2 streaming
I'm not into DOTA at all, so I haven't watched any of them.
That doesn't mean it's bad content; I'm sure a lot of people are into it.
I'm somewhat biased, having taken part in several of the streams, but consider it this way: Brad is going to play dota regardless of whether you approve or not, because he enjoys the game. He can stream it or not stream it - but the notion that the removal of the Daily Dota will spawn some alternative content is misguided. As far as users are concerned, it's this or nothing.
If you don't like dota, don't watch it.
Meh, some of the complaints are odd. Expecting anyone to have super map sense and pin point targeting and clockwork timing after a couple of months of play is entirely unrealistic.
This is part of the reason why MOBA communities have their bad reputation. Demanding that everyone needs to play at a high, hard core level all of the time is the only way to have fun or be entertained is loopy.
As a non-Dota player I have to say this stream gives me very little. After watching a weeks worth of "content" I still have little sense of what is going on.
My understanding is that the other four guys are proper Lords. Tbh I would rather watch any of them as the host of the stream.
I tried to get into it when Brad first started playing it and Giant Bomb started to document the whole affair on TNTs and Unprofessional Fridays and whatnot, but absolutely zero people came even remotely close to a clear explanation of what the fuck was going on, so I haven't watched it since.
To be fair, even if I did understand it, I still probably wouldn't like watching it. I understand how Starcraft works, but I don't like watching people play that either. I enjoy watching virtually any other type of game though, but for some reason I find those RTS-map based ones to be incredibly boring.
I don't watch it because I'm not into DOTA nor do I plan to be - nothing against it, just not my style of game. It just showcases that they can do daily scheduled content if they want to.
I mean we begged and begged and finally they caved in and listened ..because it's not the Endurance Run we deserved.. but the Endurance Run we needed..nothing less than a Brad, shining.
Ain't gonna lie, I don't watch it because I'm not interested in DOTA or LoL or those types of games. I know a lot of people ARE though, and a lot of people DO want to watch others play - and I hope they get a kick out of Brad's videos. Time will tell if this content brings enough users to the site. If it does, look forward to more. If people truly aren't watching it, it'll last a few more weeks and then mysteriously stop appearing, which is GB's way of killing off content that doesn't work (there's nothing wrong with that, it's just their way)
I watched one and found it boring. I know they were told to put more video content out, but couldn't they make two quick looks everyday as they did in the past years as oposed to one or two quick looks here and there, and drop the Dota thing?
And where should they get these games to quick look? They quick look almost every game that comes out, you can't fault the crew when the number of games has decreased the last month or so. GiantBomb is going to have to start making games so they can quick look them to keep people like this satisfied.
I don't watch it at all and I can only hope it will fade away once E3 has come and gone.
Its kinda mhee for me because:
1 - if you looking for big plays or pro content, there is actual pro tournaments going on twitch for free all the time for both LOL and DOTA 2
2 - If you looking for the usual Giantbomb charm and personality, you wont get it as they are focus on the game.. so its like watching regular dudes playing, who cares if they work in a studio or whatever...
its the equivalent of watching ESPN commentators playing a match of basketball in their courtyard.. like I rather watch the NBA match.
Exactly. Daily Dota just feels like something they threw out there to go "hey we've got tons of content! Welcome to Giantbombdotacom!" It just feels like lazy output. And before anyone says "yeah well you can say the same about quick looks and endurance runs!" You get variety with quick looks and endurance runs have an end goal. I don't see what the end goal is with Daily Dota. It's just a boring Daily TNT and I barely even watch TNT unless they are playing with eachother. There are plenty of smaller releases out there and yet they choose to pump the site full of DOTA videos.
I actually like watching Brad play. I think about it like this.
I never watched a game of football until high-school when my friend invited me to a Superbowl party. I watched dumbfounded and completely confused... that was a broadcast for people that know about and watch football... Then a week or two after the same friend and I watched a high-school scrub game and I instantly got it. It was slower, there was no numbers flying everywhere and no commentators quoting stats. Just the game in a relaxed setting.
Now this never made me a super fan of football or anything but I at least have a better understanding of the basics. I think that is the value of Brad's streams. It's informal, slower and lacking a lot of the stuff that straight up confuses me in the pro-streams.
