Thought it might be interesting or amusing to ask.
I named my dog "Kitty". Imagine my surprise when I ran into a sub-boss with the same name. :P

my mind was really blank while naming him, i just named him Turk, like the Turks from FFVII

I was really uncreative and named him Spike.

Mabies, which I stole from Tina Sanchez.

Umm.. where do you get the Mabari? I got the quest right near the start to get the stuff to heal him, which I got, but I moved the story along before I could hand it in. Have I missed out?

I named him Dexter, after the TV series... lack of fantasy here too, as I called my main Rita.

@Khann:
 I think I got him when I went to Redcliffe.

Im reading the Song of Ice and Fire atm, so I was even less creative, and named my dog Shadow.

Edit: Second dog named Raphael.

I don't recall ever naming him.  I pretty much ditched him once I got more characters than my party could hold.  Dogs don't add much narrative depth to a story-driven RPG.

The same thing I called my dog in Fable II; Wulfugn, pronounced "Wolf-un" or "Volfen". Thought it sounded pretty cool, but it's also kind of an ugly name for an ugly game (in terms of gritty). It was a toss up between that, Derfel or Hywldywn.

I'm way into fantasy, so I know how to come up with names. Incidentally, my main character is a redheaded human female warrior named Raila, which is the name of the mother of the protagonist of a fantasy novel I hope one day to write.

Wow, what would have happened if you were asked what your favourite colour is? Would you have written a 500 page summary of your childhood and how you grew up?

@Shiftshaper: Umm, no? I would have said blue. But I get your point. It just happens to be something I'm very passionate about.

I really didn't bother at the time I was asked and I thought I could change it at any time. Now I'm stuck with "Fluffy". But read last Friday's Penny Arcade comic. I think the name they feature in that takes the cake.

@Khann: If you don't start as a Human Noble you can get a Mabari by finding the flower for the Kennel Master in Ostagar. Then at a later point in the game you will have a random encounter in which a Mabari will come to your aid. At that point you can recruit him into your party.

I was incredibly uncreative and just named mine Dog. I knew I wasn't going to be using him long so I didn't feel the need to come up with something ultra-creative. Looking back however I kind of wish I had.
