E3, Coming To a Cinema Near You!

Sony will be simulcasting it's press conference this year, with one special difference it won't just be online but -IN- line!

At the Cinemas that is!

That's right! All your favourite awkward moments right there on the big screen! Men in suits, Game Announcements, 14 seconds about the Vita and an extra thirty minutes of exclusive footage! It'll all be there!

This is definitely the weirdest E3 change up I've heard of but it sounds just dumb enough that i refuse to miss it. Tickets are free and it's going to be presented at a number of theatres across the US and Canada, if you're in the bay area it's showing at the Century 9 cinemas in San Francisco, you can reserve a max of two tickets online which seems to include some Playstation swag and a mystery gift.

thats pretty crazy, what the hell does sony have planned to show if they have the audacity to present this in cinemas.

Maybe the people in the theatres will get a controller or a game?

I'm tempted to go hoping there's gonna be a big reveal that's gonna get people shouting crazy thing.

I don't care enough to shout or cry or whatever, but hearing Jeff talk about the Kingdom Hearts 3's reveal I'd want to feel what it is to be in the same room as those crazy people.

Apparently tickets are already being sold out for certain theaters. I didn't really want to, but I decided to get mine for Montreal, since it'll at least be an interesting experience and I wouldn't want to miss out on whatever that special thing attendees will get.

Didn't Konami try to do this years ago with nothing but failure?

I don't see the appeal of going out to watch this when it's on the internet and on TV.

This sounds crazy, no showing in Ottawa though so no go for me. Not gonna drive for 2 hours each way to Montreal to see a press conference I can just stream at home and get the crowd experience from the GB Chat, maybe skype with a few people.

Not gonna lie this sounds fun. If I had a reliable way to get to the portland location I would easily go but I don't so currently I'll just stick to the Giantbomb chat...for better or for worse.

E3 in MY movie theater? It's more likely than you think.

Huh that is real stupid. I'd totally be down except for the part where the closest theater is a little over one hour away from me.

As soon as I heard about this I was about to ask my friends to go with, then I stopped. I'll just throw a E3 Hype Train party at my house. So thanks for the idea Sony. :P

I'm equal parts upset and happy this is not happening in a theater near me. On one hand, if you get a crowed worth being with I bet any silly/awkward/cool parts would be fun to experience. On the other hand I could see it being a few hours of wasteful boredom. So at least I don't have to choose now.

I just got 2 for Atlanta. No idea what to expect though. Maybe the gift will be something good.

Wow that's nuts. If they had one in the UK I would be tempted to go just to see if it was a gigantic damp squib or they did have something impressive to offer.

The only reason I can see them doing this is so they can use it for some sort of marketing down the road. I can't see it adding anything to the experience for those that go apart from maybe getting some swag. Its not like E3 press conferences are crying out for the big screen experience. 3D maybe. E3 IN 3D! That's it! EDIT: @dudeglove got there before me.

If there was showing when I'm not working and it was free I'd think about it. Would be really weird to go to this though.

Unless the gift is spectacular, this sounds really lame. Why go to a theater to see one press conference when you can stay home and stream them all? Not to mention seeing what the chat comes up with.

It's some sort of publicity thing, I guess.

The San Francisco theater is about four blocks from the CBSi office, but we'll be busy manning the chat.
