My impression is that year of the grappling hook was 2015.

This was actually really tough, as there's been PLENTY of mention of all of these things. I was tempted to say #Dads but #GrapplingHook seemed more prominent. Dad Kratos and Marcus were pretty great though.

Year of Pleasent surprises. A lot of games looked cool and I've been feeling sceptical about games lately so it surprised me. Ironically now that I finally feel like there are some good games coming and a reason to get one of the current gen consoles (still have not upgraded because of lack of games) they announce new consoles coming so I have to wait for that or end up having old gen stuff again soon since the old XONE and PS4 will feel obsolete.

Nothing reappeared as relentlessly as the grappling hook this year. I'd say the difference was nobody actually mentioned the grappling hook. It just tried to sneak in, the cocksucker.
