I've noticed we are able to add Sony company codes and Nintendo company codes could you add the ability to add the publisher codes too?

*THQ games also have an extra code next their barcodes similar to 2K Games' code placement.

I don't know if any of the other publishers have these types of codes on the game boxes. Feel free to add to the thread if you find they do. Thanks

Sell it to me; why would anyone ever want to document this?

@hashy Having information for information's sake is kind of the reason for this wiki duder.

The wiki also has a place to enter barcode numbers for games, so why stop there?

Why not document other numbers? All of the numbers. Give me some numbers to enter into a database please. Any numbers.

This. It's the entire point of having data archives like the wiki. You document releases, versions, game details, release dates, features. I take it, beyond and hashy, you have never been to www.discogs.com? They document the matrix numbers on the discs and other IDs to trace it back to pressing plants and whatnot. The wiki isn't just for "hey, you save the princess in Zelda 1 and there's items for your game and oh the game also came out on the GBA."

Ain't no half-steppin'!

Bit of a necro but still on the first forum page.

There is nothing wrong with including publisher codes within the wiki text if you're in the mood for data porn. When segments of data like that reach critical mass (say, more than 500 games?) it can sometimes present a case of the need for a database field. But ultimately I think there are more valuable things that are still on the todo lists of both the engineers and the users.

I expect company codes are a carry-over from building off the Mobygames database. Company codes have the advantage of being unique to the platform. Somewhat like a book's ISBN, they uniquely identify a title in the platform's ecosystem, and tend to be pretty crucial in cataloguing cartridges and roms. "57452" unfortunately doesn't identify anything about the existence of Saint's Row 3 to the outside world. It is unlikely "5xxxx" uniquely identifies THQ considering there are dozens of major publishers per platform, and if it did we don't know their system other than by observation. Understanding that numbering system would be important to making a database field or search queries useful. If you're searching for 5 digits but the field has room for 15, that has a lot of potential problems too.
