No points for reviews?

So I noticed users get no points for putting up a review of a game. I think this is unfair, as (good) reviews are quite lenghty and require some measure of structural spine to it. Thoughts?

Eh... I don't think you should get points. I just think this will encourage people who don't want to write a lengthy review to write a short, brief and non-detailed review and overlook a lot of things like spelling and grammar.

Well the points are regarding wiki info and provide wiki related privileges....and just because someone posts a lot of reviews doesn't mean someone should necessary be able to do a lot of wiki stuff.

Maybe there should be different kind of points for different things.

I think there should be some way of recognising the quality and quantity of user reviews for each user, maybe having "Top Reviewers" with a list organised by Recommendations (Quality) and users who wrote the most reviews (Quantity).

I'm not sure if this already exists though, I'm still exploring the site (joined a few hours ago). :D

I agree...not al reviews should be rewarded with points...but if there is quality, some recognition should be done.

I think if you want to give points out for reviews, then how about 1 for just putting a review up, then that point can be taken away for an overall negative reaction, but can increase with an overall positive reaction. Limited negativity and somewhat limitless positive ground of course (like maybe 10).

It wouldnt really be possible. Moderators have more to do than to visit every profile, judging if people's reviews are good or not. Besides, people write reviews in order to help people with game decisions, not for stupid points. (at least that's my mentality)

I think that the only thing that doesn't give you points now that should, is reviews. I think it should, because you are contributing to the game page itself in lengthy detail.

Huh? That doesn't make any sense. So you're saying reviews don't qualify as "solid information" ? Odd, because when I want to buy I game, reviews are usually the first thing I turn to for advice.

I think it sucks that you get nothing for doing reviews since it takes A LOT more time and effort to write up an in-depth review than it does to do other things here that reward points such as upload pictures. I know that when I go to write up a review for a game I am usually on my third or fourth play through AT LEAST (often it's my 5th or 6th play through) and I am playing through specifically with the review and review criteria in mind, which means I am paying more attention to the technical stuff in the game and how well the game performs as a whole rather than how much I personally enjoy it or not.

I can see others peoples point though. It would royally blow if people got points for doing shitty one sentence, or one paragraph reviews. It would suck even more if the review points were a flat rate, and would take way too much work on the Giant Bomb Teams end to set up a system that isn't flat rate for review points if they were to give points for reviews, especially when the purpose of Giant Bomb is to basically be the Wikipedia of the Video Game Industry and not a video game review site.

You can't give out points for reviews because reviews don't require moderator approval for submission. This would essentially break the system, which is designed to only give live access abilities to people with a strong desire to add content. Otherwise, I could just copy & paste the same paragraph into 100 different game reviews, get 1k points, then go make every Wiki say "Eric is a douchebag!"

I would love getting points for writing my 2-3 page long reviews for the site.

But then, mods would probably have to look over all reviews submitted so no one just write things in reviews such as...

This was a great game I loved the graphics ppl in the game and it was so awsum! I think it should be game of the yaer! But why should points be restricted to "solid information"? It's content, and it's very important content - as others have mentioned, reviews may get more readers than the articles themselves. Subjective information is very important to me when I decide whether I want to purchase a game or not.

Because reviews are opinion, while the game content isn't. Also, who looks at reviews here anyway? I have a couple of reviews up, and from what I've seen, no one cares.
