Poll Amita or Sabal? (249 votes)

Amita 60%
Sabal 41%

I'm at the first Balance of power mission, and I'm a little stuck for a choice; so I'm curious to know who chose what...

(Also, does it "only" generate different missions and story, or does it also alter the way the sandbox works?)

(No spoilers if it can be helped, ty)

I chose Sabal, since he seemed to value human lives more than Amita. Stuck with him after that mostly because I felt I had already made my choice.

The choices just tweak a few missions and give you a hidden cutscene at the end of the game.

Also, it really doesn't matter who you pick because they're both total dicks.

@nophilip: Interesting; I was thinking it might prove an interesting juxtaposition it if changed the sand box balance. Anyway, good to know its not a dealbreaker.

I chose Amita for everything, though didn't do some stuff she had asked of me.

Great, another shitty Far Cry choice. The options at the end of 3 were bullshit. If they're going to continue with this format, they need to give you a third choice "Fuck all you shitheads!" where you flip everyone off then happily walk off into the sunset.

THIS!!! Although I didn't finish Far Cry 3 single player, I felt that much of the people I worked with in this game (including that wannabe badass CIA dickhead Willis) I also wanted a choice to just gun them all down to have a fitting end for that land.

Whoops. Misunderstood the question. I chose Amita for the first Golden Path choice. It's a way better mission too. Sabal's escort/protect version of that mission was a nightmare.

For all the people talking about a third option. There kind of is one, if you wait for like 15 minutes at the start of the game.
You won't get much else out of the game, but it's kind of an interesting little thing they've put in there.

I went for Amita on the first choice because it seemed more important. Sabal wants you to go help defend some of his men... well Sabal didn't you just say you sent some guys already? Do they really need me too? Meanwhile no one is going for this intel if you don't go. So logic said go do the thing no one else is doing cause it won't get done if you don't do it.

Past that who knows. Sabal "seems" like his heart is in the right place but he is a bit fanatical and Amita is just a drug running bitch who is perfectly happy to sell national treasures and art work to collectors who will hide it in their own private museums. So far in all hilarity Pagan Min seems nicer other than the fact that his men are clearly toolbags.

Also the secret ending is hilarious and just goes to show you that there may not be a real "villain" in the game.

@sinusoidal: There's kind of something like that in my opinion. Spoilers.

I mean you still have to side with someone in the end, but I just ended up shooting Amita and making my own story that Ajay just fucking left shortly after.

FC4 is a lot more self-aware and for nearly every character you eventually realize they are just totally using Ajay left and right. But you go along with it because the yellow dot said to, and also cause he likes killing the shit out of everything with no consequences. He even has no problem hanging out with those squatter fucks over and over again who just keep abusing him. Can you kill them? It is pretty funny they give you a pipe that causes you to wake up groggy in a random map location, Trevor Phillips-style.

Remember what Willis said. Kyrat was made for guys like them. I am playing the rest of FC3 I never finished and Willis mentions going off to Russia, and talks like he might be a double agent or changing sides, he is probably one step away from becoming the next Paul.

I actually wonder if Longinus is maybe the most evil character, but nobody ever seems to notice or question what he's really doing and it's hilarious. I mean he quotes the Bible so it's gotta be legit. Need your diamonds stolen and then passed off to God knows who? Sure thing, just tell me where the yellow dot is and throw in a free gun! I really got a kick out of the writing, they did a real good job.

Next time I hope the set of generic good and bad guys gets fleshed out a bit more. It's really pushing things when you have all these Royal Army dudes still fighting to the death to hold outposts long after the end of the game. I want to see defectors and stuff like that. Maybe you can convert them to your side, if you quote enough of the Bible of course. And aren't they mostly foreign mercenaries? Why are they so fanatic that they will basically become suicide bombers if it helps to kill you. I want to bribe dudes while I'm sneaking into an outpost. Rework the mind control idea from Mordor into a bribe system, that would be pretty neat. Ugh, and also they need to do something with the dumb loot you find. Add some real random Diablo loot items, Dark Souls-style lore tidbits, or just fucking give me nothing but cash from dudes. I mean why can't some guy randomly drop one of the signature weapons or something? Put expensive guns in the hardest to find secret cave, etc. I found my way to the Goat's loot cave, which was kinda neat, but it was just junk and a few thousand more rupees. I love exploring but they could easily add more of an incentive. The little notes were a nice touch. Did you notice they never mention the total number of notes in the stat screen? Wonder how many there are...

I ended up trying both endings and to be honest they are both shitty people. It's unfortunate the game does not allow you a third option of supporting neither of them.

I went with Sabal for the first 2 choices. Then after a very passionate argument from Amita about using drug revenue for medicine and such I switched to her, but for the final decision I went back to Sabal.

Also (big end game spoilers here) I had put my controller down during the confrontation with Amita so she ran off, which I do regret. However after the final Sabal cutscene I blasted him quick. Both choices are shitty but at least Citra is alive and Sabal is dead.

I think Far Cry would work best if you are a spoiled shitty kid who gets into some civil war situation as an unknown, become the native's leader, lead the revolution and then turn around and kill everyone, skin all the animals and paraglide over the smoking remains of whatever culture was once there.

But I don't think the current P.C. climate would let that be it's own beautiful thing.

Like everybody has been saying, they are both total dicks in their own unique ways. However, even though Sabal seemed to be more compassionate I went with Amita all the way. I just could not get over the whole fact that Sabal wanted child marriage to be a thing. Fucking disgusting. Put a fucking bullet in that pedophiles dome. Also, being a druglord is cooler, so Amita wins.

Sabal reminded me of the guy from LOST, so I chose him. He also seemed to value human lives more, like someone above said. Didn't get very far in the game, though. Oh, and he is voiced by the guy from LOST. Naveen Andrews.

Sounds like in the end, even if you go with Amita, [LOST spoilers:] he still gets a much better death than in LOST.

Purely going off the first choice, I went with Amita. Her option made far more sense to me - not only would it probably have been the logical choice in general (sure you want to go rescue people straight away, but intel that can help turn the tide of battle is probably more important), but the people Sabal wants you to help weren't anyone important - they'd given me no reason at that point to care about a few generic Golden Path dudes that you see hundreds of just wandering around that world.

Honestly the real disappointment is that the "secret" alternative early ending doesn't go anywhere. Sure, Pagan Min kills that guy at the start and he does come across as rather unhinged - but he is nothing but friendly towards you from the moment he sees you; he explains clearly who he is, what his relationship to your family is, and why he cares about your task. If you stick with him, he takes you to do exactly what you came for and then hops in a helicopter with you in a moment that just screams, "Yeah let's have some fun, new friend!" I want to play an alternative game where you just hang out with Pagan Min doing fun stuff.

They both suck eventually, but Amita's a chick, so I always went with her. I'm a romantic.

If they let you side with Pagan Min, though, I totally would have done that, because he's the freaking man.

I went with Amita in the end, but was with Sabal during the 2 heroin missions. If Amita thought with her head, since when was being a narco state such a good thing? By this I mean exporting for money as opposed to domestic opium use within ones own culture. Nothing but problems, there. Nor did I forget Sabal saved my ass twice, and did not killhim.

There was a scene with Yuma that made me think Sabal had a real dark side, but I wasn't sure, it being Yuma's projected hallucinations.

That was my exact reasoning for going with Amita as well. And I haven't finished the game yet, but the moment Sabal tried to guilt trip me by saying something like "this isn't what your father would have done" pretty much assured that I'd be picking against him for the rest of the game. I don't care at all about the golden path legacy and I just found it pretty funny that he keeps trying to appeal to my morality when my body count is at absurd levels.

Post credits, if you go to the island with the ruined temple (the one Sabal wanted you to defend and Amita wanted you to blow up) you'll see that that premonition was 100% accurate.

However, if you side with Amita, post credits you can find her doing something equally reprehensible - ordering her soldiers to enter villages and forcibly conscript child soldiers.

I went with Sabal just because. Didn't like the idea of fostering a drug nation (and that shit always finds a way regardless) and Samita had no support from the soldiers. Although they really don't play up to any of the tensions within the Golden Path. Its just two people instead of it being something more disruptive. You shoot four guys and, "Well, that's the end of opposition. Glory to <person you picked>!

It's just done really poorly - I went with Sabal because I didn't quite get the whole: "don't you see, the only way to move forwards is to deal drugs and to blow up ancient temples". Why couldn't we just convert the opium fields back to tea fields or something?

It was dealt with in a really heavy handed way. Stupid though it was, at least Far Cry 3 had an attempt at a character arc for the main character (Brody?). Ajay doesn't really have any of this. The Far Cry series seems to make interesting characters, animate and voice them in an interesting way, then use them in a shit way.

I chose Amita because she was way cooler and not a whiny baby about everything.

But I didn't like the Sabal character *at all*. I killed the shit out of him
