Far Cry 4 Is Coming

Not only was Far Cry 3 a big success for Ubisoft, but it was a pretty damn good game, too. It's why we're getting Far Cry 4 later this year, confirming longstanding rumors of another open world sequel.

Ubisoft stealthily announced Far Cry 4 as part of its financial results today.

The game, which takes place in the Himalayas, is scheduled for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 18. We'll most likely see much more of Far Cry 4 at E3.

The company revealed a little bit more about the game on the PlayStation Blog today.

"Of course, you can expect the same unique, open-world gameplay that has set Far Cry apart from more traditional shooters. Far Cry 4 will be set in Kyrat, a breathtaking, perilous, and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic, self-appointed king. This is not your standard FPS. You will be equipped with a vast array of weapons, animals, and vehicles, and our highly detailed and interactive open-world will let players write their own story across an exotic and varied landscape."

For now, let's all gaze upon the amazing art for the game.

Nice, great news. I like seeing a game announced and released in the same year. Also, is this Ubi's first multiplat/cross gen game to not have a Wii U version?

That said, I'm super excited. I loved Far Cry 3 and the Himalayas seems like a really cool setting. I kinda wish this was current-gen only, though...

Far Cry 3 was indeed a good game, but I happened to be playing it around the time the Sandyhook shooting happened and found myself unable to get back into the game after that. Let's hope I can make it all the way through this one!

Far Cry 3 was probably my GOTY, so I am really excited for sequel which won't be kinda jacked on consoles (hopefully).

Being equipped with a large array of animals makes me think of Hearthstone's Hunter. And Hearthstone's Hunter is often super fun to play. If that line means anything resembling Unleash The Hounds I will be very happy.

Well I'll be getting this day one, waited on 3 and loved the hell out of it, so more of that and I'm in.

I look at that boxart and think back on what Far Cry was like at first 10 years ago and wonder if Far Cry is on the same trajectory as Saints Row.

Didn't like Far Cry 3 at all personally and only two years later makes me think it will be very similar, well most people seemed to like that so I can't complain. Not for me probably.

Let's hope they don't squander the potential of an antagonist like Vaas again. Everything about that character was so rich and distinct, I just hope it gets treated a bit more elegantly this time around, if they have one (which sounds like the new king fellow).

eh, stopped playing FC3 once I got to the second island and would have stopped sooner if not for the hype and the fact I dropped 30 quid on it. They should make Far Cry 2 again

Seriously - how bad is that art? Looks like they hired a freshman from art-school who hasn't taken any life drawing classes yet.

Going off the appearance of the villain - I'm glad that they're retaining the surreal, sort of self aware vibe of FC3 instead of making a serious "dark and gritty" game. The pink suit and the douchey look made me chuckle when I first saw it.

I've got a baaaaaaad feeling about this.

From an art perspective, it seems to be a mix of what I loved from Far Cry 3 and the Tomb Raider game that came out last year - which is a neat surprise.

I wish they had waited a year or two more to release a fourth game.

Yes, but I'm also worried. The first half or so of FarCry 3 was absolutely amazing. But in the second half it became very clear that Ubisoft had no idea what they were building in the first half. They didn't deliver on any of the very interestingly established story points.

I am worried a little bit because they are apparently moving in the same direction and I hope they finally understand what made that stuff so great; instead of adding it in to say: 'See? This stuff is back!'

That said, I really enjoyed playing FarCry 3 and even though I thought it ultimately didn't live up to what it projected, it was one of my favorite games that year. In fact, I feel compelled to go back and play it again right now.

Ubisoft has been crushing it lately. AC IV and Child of Light are awesome. If Watch Dogs is even semi decent. Ubisoft has to be developer of the year, well at least for the PS4.

I'm always a bit skeptical when it comes to huge games with shorter than expected dev cycles due to multiple studios working on the game.

So how long until the writer tells everyone that his shitty story is "satire" and they we just totally don't get it and he's actually a wonderful writer?

This could be really good or really bad depending on the villain. Art looks awesome though.
