First off, I'm not huge into online RPG's. I've played WoW, sure, but everyone has dabbled with that.
So I love Final Fantasy, uh, well actually I loved Final Fantasy up until about FFX, then it kind of lost me.
Given my love for Cactuars and Chocobo's I decided to buy this game, and I have to say I'm finding it really hard to enjoy.
The combat is fluid but I never feel like any of my attacks matter. I'm primarily playing an archer, and I'm able to move around shooting arrows (as you do), seeing numbers fly off enemies, but monsters take too long to take down that it just isn't fun. This problem is made worse in dungeons where it can take about a minute to kill a normal enemy, and these dungeons are pretty long!
The game is also crazy overwhelming. Sure, it gives you tips but this game has so many different things to do and so many different classes to do that it can make working out a strategy really difficult. You have logs that you can fill to earn XP, do missions for companies, cook, mine, you name it - it's in the game.
I'm at level 22, and I just got my chocobo mount, which is awesome,. but I fear that in getting it, I've reached a goal that I'm happy with and I'm thinking of just stopping now.
Any tips for getting some more life out of FFXIV? I really want to love this game, but...damn!
