I just finished the Gears of War 3 campaign last night and I've got Gears fever right now!! Are any of the novels worth reading? I love the lore behind Gears of War, as dumb as it can be sometimes.

They're a little dumb. I've only read the first, Aspho Fields. And its sort of pretty cool how you find out about their dark secrets, and who's died on them. I also like the sniper characters, every once in a while.

I enjoy them as the stories tend to fill in a lot of things that were "implied" and easily missed in the games. They are better then the majority of other video game novels I've read.

They're pretty great and really flesh out the characters a lot. It's hard to look at them as meatheads after reading the series.

The author, Karen Traviss, also wrote Gears 3 and has a pretty cool writing style for her books. She created the lady with Hoffman in 3, Bernie, who eventually became my favorite Gears character.
