11 year old college grad says Video Games are "a waste of time"
Before you go attacking the kid, hear what he has to say: "I feel it's a waste of time playing video games because it's not helping humanity in any way." Okay, that is definitely flame-bait material, so I'll just have to remind you guys that he's only 11 years old.
He may be a college graduate at such a tender age, but that doesn't mean he doesn't stand to learn anything new anymore. He's got his whole future ahead of him, and am sure he'll one day find the time to change his mind about his graduation statement - especially with college comfortably tucked out of his way.

I have to give the kid credit. He managed to say that without ever using the word "gay." Instead, he likened video games to this.
" Not taking advice from a kid who doesn't know how to be a kid. How does karate and scuba diving help humanity again? "
Well to somewhat disprove that shitheads statement..
- From playing videogames I have learned how to talk fluently
- Have way better hand eye coordination
- I've learned many different types of guns
- I've also learned how to protect myself in the event a zombie apocolypse happens
- My thoughts are complicated
- and I've learned....
- duh boobs teh big. Thanks Video Games.
Uh-huh.
How does learning martial arts benefit humanity?
I find it hard to believe that a child apparently so intelligent didn't see that strange quality in his statement.
Poor kid, missing out on being a kid! I feel kind of sorry for him.
Btw, Gizmo, I lol'd at your masturbation comment!

Seriously though I've gotten way smarter from playing different games."

probably what's been drilled into his mind by his parents, who have probably made it their mission to rob their child of his childhood to set some stupid world records that will only make their child's future lack of significant accomplishments seem tragic.
when i was a little kid, my parents wouldn't let me watch the simpsons, so i would tell my friends that the simpsons was a waste of time. kids will rationalize their parents' restrictions on what they are allowed to enjoy, because to do otherwise would be admitting to missing out.

His opinion is very shortsighted.
Let's look into the future of videogames and of humanity. Videogames are copy 'n paste. They can be everything. One fine day, the sensations of virtual space will be just as real as the ones felt in physical space. In physical space, nothing is copy 'n paste. Everything uses up resources. Physical objects can be very rare and only be possessed by a few. Luxurious sportscars or a seaside estate for example. Also, all physical consumption causes pollution, uses up resources and requires a lot of work. In the future of humanity, if we have one, all consumption, that can be virtual, will be virtual, since using up physical goods for leisure is irresponsible and sometime in the not so distant future, impossible for the masses.
Mark my words. Virtual space will one day save humanity from extinction. And maybe that 11 year old loudmouth will grow up to build us our virtual haven...
Meh, the kids obviously academically gifted but despite the comments he made about knowledge leading to wisdom in the interview of him I saw, I don't think he himself has managed to convert much of that knowledge into wisdom yet. If it's a fun activity and improves people's moods without having some profound side-effect...what's wrong with it? I would say that video games are not a waste of time in the same way that other forms of entertainment aren't wastes of time since they bring joy, and people being happy is what really matters in the end.
He's just saying what his parents have raised him to think...once he grows older his opinions may become more open. I would say 99% of the things he does in his daily routine are of no benefit to humanity but he hasn't thought about that yet because he's....11.

Just a kid. And like some one said, he seems to be missing out on his childhood. I appreciatte his achievements and choice of a major. iff`n he had just said other things get him off more than Video games, and mabe he was trying to convey just that,.. well fine.
That magic word from the Nintendo Conference...NEVER. Heh!
And who knows, he`s just a kid. Controlling PPl. could very well be in his ear about video games, drugs, sex, and everything else that requires problematical choices. Mabe he also needs to mature. That would be for the best, as long as he learns to think for himself.
I don't know the whole quote (this may be taken out of context), but going with what's available...
