2013 in gaming what games did YOU play?

So, Call of Duty is out in mere hours on the east coast and with that the last Major release of this year. Sure, there is new hardware but strictly speaking software Call of Duty releasing usually marks the last big hurrah of video games for the year. So, what did you get around to playing/buying this year?

Its been a long year with both ups and downs and if you've forgotten some of the stuff earlier in the year well, that is entirely reasonable. If you need a refresher check out this list on Wikipedia: 2013 In Games

Wow, THAT is a list of games. And that is just the new stuff I've played. Needless to say cutting that down to 10 games only this year is going to be a task. People want to be cynical but shit man its been a GREAT year for video games.

I'm going to start replaying everything on that list for a least a couple of hours and start really formulating my final list along with my respective blog entries. I look forward to seeing what everyone else spent their time playing this year along with what everyone considers the best of the year as I'm sure we'll start to see a influx of GOTY blogs within the next few weeks.

I felt like I played less this year. But looking at that list.... yeah. I certainly bought more and wanted to buy even more, but that damn 3 hour commute. Coming up next month, I'll have Battlefield 4, Need For Speed Rivals, Knack, and possibly Killzone. And then I think it's time to start catching up on some stuff.

I just came to the sad realization, that I spend way too much time playing video games. But I did not finish all those games either. Some of them I only played for a few hours before never touching again. I have more of a video game buying problem. I buy way more games than I could ever actually fully play.

Bioshock Infinite, GTAV, The Stanley Parable, Saints Row IV and...Monaco? I think I bought Monaco. Yeah, not a lot grabbed me this year.

2013: Games I Completed I played a bunch of other stuff here and there, but if I couldn't be arsed to beat it then it didn't really appeal to me. I guess my list of stuff I bought would be a better list of stuff if you only care about games you played in some way or another as I at least started those games and played them for a few hours. Now that I look over the list some I have never touched. Most I put a few hours into at least.

Not sure how to place it--whether it means I wasn't sold on a lot of titles in 2013 or whether it's indicative of my slowly falling out of such fervent passion for gaming--but I really didn't play too many new releases this year. This spring, caught the Injustice bug, and more or less spent the rest of the year playing that. Far and away my Game of the Year. Nothing could pull me away from it.

Mucked around with Bioshock Inifnite and Grand Theft Auto. Have a copy of Batman sitting here, within arm's reach, collecting dust over its unmarred cellophane packaging. Spent some time, but not much, with Tomb Raider and The Last of Us. Nearly finished Beyond Two Souls.

Divekick. There was that brief spat with Divekick.

So, yup. Not a whole lot. Apart from hundreds of hours of Injustice, that is.

I never bother with top ten lists, but for the last three years I've kept lists on what games I played throughout the year. It has eventually come to include games I didn't play during that particlar year, mostly because I had a LOT of backlog from 2012 this time around. I also think a significant number of the games I played this year might have been from 2012, can't be bothered to check right now though. If somebody wants to look though it's over here.

If I finish Pokemon I'm also hoping to dig into Fire Emblem or the new Phoenix Wright game before the end of the year.

There's also Super Mario 3D World, which looks cool and totally also counts as a major release that's coming out this year, btw.

I kind of always wanted to do something like this so I could definitively figure out a personal game of the year list. My level of investment in each game is also noted. If a game brings out the mad completionist in me, chances are it was a good one.

• Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Still playing, this game won't let me go.

• Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - Only a few hours in and fell off. I hope to return to it, just like every other Mario & Luigi game.
• DuckTales: Remastered - Completed, and I think I found most of the stuff in it.

• The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD - I've beat it many times on the Game Cube, but I collected all the stuff in this version again for giggles. Didn't bother with the Boss.

gave up on new stuff and played through the Mass Effect trilogy twice

but then the year turned out pretty great, played and loved - Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Shadowrun Returns, The Bureau, GTA 5, Brothers, Dragon's Crown. (also Diablo 3 on xbox - does that count?)

would love to play Fire Emblem but I can't summon up a 3DS.
