I think Tales of Vesparia was the kicker.  Crazy Japanese and their crazy JRPGs.  The Tales series are pretty good though... so it's understandable.

Poor Sony? Ha. What's funny about that is they're practically giving 360's away in Japan because no one would buy them. They are incredibly cheap there and yet still they aren't selling tremendously better than the PS3. Not that I even own a PS3, but really, this isn't that big of a deal. Meanwhile, I look at the Wii numbers and I cry.

Pretty much, Tales of Vesparia did it. Oh, and FFXIII isn't coming out for the 360 in Japan, so that can't be it.

I think Infinite Undiscovery is also to blame. I really want the 360 to do well in Japan. I'd hate for it to end up like the Saturn or PC Engine.

Kudos to Microsoft for getting their marketing right in Japan. I'm sure Sony will be talking about the appropriate measures to "right" the situation.

They're only getting like 5K more...and in the long run the PS3 is waaaay outbeating the xbox 360...so...the only loser is you for getting so overexcited about it

good on Microsoft.  they probably have Infinite Undiscovery devs to thank for that.  what are the chances of 360 staying about ps3 for the forseeable future though?  surely the 360 version of FF13 ISN'T going to make 360's sell better since it's going to be a port...

At some point this will level off. In Japan you can buy and sell systems like mad. So it won't be long before the install base of new systems becomes the install base of used systems at Super Potato or any other number of stores there. I'm not knocking 360 or the games. MS has put a lot of money, time and effort into 360 in Japan and it is starting to pay off in droves. I'm just thinking out loud that the cost thing brought up by other posters, along with the exclusives, may be the accellarant for seasonal purchases. If a consistant line of releases continues then my comments are null and void because that will keep the systems in homes and not in stores.

White Knight Chronicles and Disgaea might just tip the scales in Japan.

Apparently Japan is now Microsoft's Playground after edging out the PS3 by 5k units...in not one, but two weeks?!

Man, they're dominating! Forget the PS3 outselling the Xbox 360 for about 2 years or so, these 2 weeks mean more!

Thats what a few JRPG's will do. Still even if this happens for a few weeks straight its not going to catch them up in terms of whole sales pretty much ever.

This is why the lack of new JRPGs on the system is a bad thing.  Sony doesn't seem to understand that, though.  They better hope FF13 delivers the goods, as it isn't coming out on the 360 in Japan, and is the only game that could turn this around for them.  If you had told me a few years ago that the next Xbox would outsell the PS3 in Japan, even if only for a week or two, because it had a great JRPG lineup, I'd have laughed in your face.
