Hey, I was wondering, I have a DS (It's dying quickly) and I need a new portable. So I was thinking I should buy a PSP. But for the same money I can buy a 360. Please keep in mind that I have NO current generation consoles. What should I do?

EDIT: I also will not have internet on my 360, so no online.

Comparing a handheld system to a home console is a bit weird, but I'd say you should definitely get the 360 if don't have a current gen console. Unless you don't get a hard drive; that's just a bad decision.

Oh dear lord, DO NOT buy a PSP.  Even with all of the problems with the 360, and there are many, it is a no contest - buy the 360!!!!.  You will more than likely regret buying a PSP.  (I have 2 PSP and no 360).

Online is not essential to still have plenty of fun with a 360 (I have no online as well, for my Wii).

Otherwise, buy a new DS.  You will always have fun with a DS.

I say get a PsP, I have one, it is one of my main consoles and I love it. There are some good exclusives on it, you can browse the internet etc, but the 360 is a good choice to.

Buy a 360. PSP is great, but a next gen console is better.

Technically, the PsP is a current generation handheld.

I hardly use my PSP for games ever since I modded it (no endorsement). Personally, I say 360 all the way.

But, if your DS is quickly dying, I'm assuming it must've been from overuse; meaning, you must've played a lot on it. Why don't you get a DSi when those come out?

Definitely a 360. The PSP is a great system but it is inferior to the DS. Even without online, the 360 is a fantastic system.

If gaming is what you want to do, get a 360. Though if you want to be able to bring it around, obviously a PSP is portable. It is a bit of a strange comparison....

I had a PSP and could not get into it. First of all, they aren't really very many good games for it. Granted God of War Chains of Olympus is incredible, as is Crisis Core, Wipeout Pulse and others but that's the extent. Unless you have a niche gaming sense (RPG perhaps, where you could play Jeanne D'Arc and so forth) which if you don't have any of the current gen consoles, I would guess not.

So even though this is a comparison that I think is not quite right to make.. if you really want to play a bunch of games and have a library to choose from, go for the 360.

The Xbox 360 may be your best bet, even though you'll be missing out on quite a bit if you're not taking it online.

Both are great consoles, but if you can only choose one you should definitely get a 360.

this. trust me i knowfrom experience. even though hard drives are much cheaper now (£60 for 60 gig + 3month live, headset and ethernet cable.... not bad). A couple years ago a 20 gig would cost you £80 (before the 120 gigs came out)

but the 360 is beast - theres so many games to choose from. which in the end is what makes consoles successful (ps1, ps2, snes...)

Technically, they are also in the seventh generation of video game devices, but both of them are still handhelds.

Really an odd comparison, but buy a 360. The game choices are much more varied than the PSP, and there is much more developer support. While there are some strong selling points for the PSP (portability, cheaper games), there just isn't enough developer support for the PSP. Although in the end it really depends on personal preference.

I use my Psp all the time, for music and games mostly, it`s a great little system, but if you don`t have a main console, go for the 360.

Are we still calling the 360 next gen? OK, i'd go with the 360, I got real bored with my PSP real quick. Sure it's games are pretty, but there's just not that many good ones out there...

If you want a handheld, get a PSP or buy a DSi (which is the same price as the PSP). If you want a console, get a 360, although not having online will probably seriously hamper your enjoyment of it.

The 360 offers a lot more then the PSP, then again it is a console and not a handheld.

PSP is decent, it has a few must have games, but there is much more of a variety of games on the 360 and you wont have to worry about the possibly of an "xbox 360 two" as quickly as you would of a "PSP2" as there are already widespread rumors of one being in development.
