That's right, i said it. Why in God's name were they only focusing on one game that the world won't bother with. They had ridiculous business practices, it even seems like they lacked any development plan.
And, for the cherry on top for these stupid developers, take two offered them $500,000 as bonus if they could finish the game before 2006 (everyone knows what happened). The entire development staff are failures in my book, what a mediocre company.
What kind of losers were running that monkey house ?
3D REALMS DESERVES GETTING SHUTDOWN
Bonus points for using the descriptive term "monkey house".
As for the 3D Realms story, you may not remember but about a decade ago there was a little game called Diakatana that was over hyped and took too long to reach the marketplace. All gamers and people in the game's press had a good time joking about the title. When the game finally came out, it was a steaming pile of space-frog crap. We all laughed at John Romero's expense and that was the end of it. Closure.
If Duke Nukem Forever never ever comes out or if it's not forever being developed, we'll never be able to have that final laugh. No closure and now I've got an empty feeling inside where once I had comedic ridicule for the game.
While I definately don't like people losing their jobs, there's no doubt in my mind about that. The last game they released was the meh prey, and before that it was...umm.... i don't remember. They barely make games. Well, correction, that's the only thing they do. But then they scrap it. They really should learn to shoot for soemthing challenging but achievable. Go too far and it'll take so long that other people will do it before you (prey, do too little and your, just, well, doing to little.
Though NOTHING (especially a video game) should take 12 years to complete, they dident deserve to be shut down.
If the developers weren't doing their jobs and getting the game finished, then they did deserve to be shut down. Period. If it was a publisher nitpicking and changing details, I'll feel sorry for them. However, there should absolutely be no excuse for taking that long on a game.
"Exactly, maybe they did have something special at one point, but this game's been in development for almost two thirds of my life. How much money must they have wasted re-writing the game at this point? If the developers weren't doing their jobs and getting the game finished, then they did deserve to be shut down. Period. If it was a publisher nitpicking and changing details, I'll feel sorry for them. However, there should absolutely be no excuse for taking that long on a game.

Duke Nukem is an old series now, and games have evolved since the time they came out. I'm not gonna mourn him.
"NOTHING should take 12 years to complete"Thats what you really meant to type. LOL
It would be one thing if it took 12 years to bring out a game from concept to release but this game had THREE game engines. It had assets for each engine. Like Jeff said "You could have had a trilogy of games by now" Even if this game comes out I think it will be as good as Too Human. (that being playable but forgettable)
