All Time Greatest Video Game Hero

I am trying to predict the outcome of this event on Gamespot. (Yes I occasionally still go there.) I am at a crossroads at who will win in the voting between Master Chief and Mario. Also between Gordan Freeman and Duke Nukem. Can you help me decide who between these two matchups will edge out?

Mario would beat Master Chief. C'mon, there aren't that many mouth-breathing 12 year old 360 fanboys. Actually, I'm not too sure :/
 
I have no idea as to who would win between Douk and Freeman. I'd probably guess DN.

I am a little pissed at the bracketing of this, I mean they have Kratos and Sam Fisher facing off in the first round. There are some names in there that deserve to make it past the first round.

I'm guessing these people will pick Link but then again I've never had much luck determining how the gspot/gfaqs crowd thinks.

The true ending here is Mario. None of those other guys would be the same without him.

Hm, before the Freeman/Nukem pairing I had Freeman vs Snake. was I right to choose Freeman over Snake?

I was worried as I went down the list on the left side and got to the bottom and didn't see Link's name. I got to the right and started hyperventilating, and then I saw him.
 
That's all I cared about. I don't care who wins, as long as Link is actually on the bracket. If he wasn't... I don't know, I'd probably go grab some beers and get drunk while eating tomato soup.

I'm not so much into Mario games or anything, but I've been raised to think that he's the number video game character of all time. Also, almost everyone knows who he is. Heck, even my grandma knows, and she's almost 80.

Ryu and Kratos are my picks.
