I wouldn't call myself a fan by any means, but Halo's story is the only thing I like about the series.

hell no my friend, that is probably the greatest thing about the series. The games are awesome, but the universe has become one of my all time favourites across games, TV and film

The story isn't bad per say, but the whole humans-advanced alien race-scummy universe scourge race seems ripped off from starcraft, and a number of other sci-fi stories.

IMO, you can't be American if you don't like marines killing aliens. Nothing more god damn patriotic than that. God Bless.

Halos lore, story, and universe, are really engaging for me. I read all the novels and loved them, there really is a lot of depth to the series. At least a lot of depth for a video game.

Granted I havent read the novels and I am not a fan of Halo in general. But as far as the games go I am not sure that they really have strong stories at all. That said they have still managed to do a pretty admirable job of establishing a pretty fleshed out universe for the series.

I cried when I heard the Halo 3 theme on the menu screen for the first time.

Well, technically it was for other reasons, but the piano music gets me quite emotional.

I haven't read the novels, but I must say I was drawn to the story. Perhaps not so much in the events-by-events, but the characters really drew me in. I'm also a huge fan of the score and the themes they've got going. Hell, I like the gameplay as well for the most part, especially co-op or some team games with friends. They're great games, albeit not the best ever.

The story is interesting, but the games themselves don't go in-depth enough. I'm sure the extended universe media (novels, comics etc.) are far more in depth, but I don't want to have to explore other mediums to enjoy the story, I want the games themselves to explore the story more.

yeah I love the story only problem is that Halo 3 was so short that it ruined the whole thing for me.... the books are ok... I don't really see the point in reading books that are spinoffs of games....  Oh and by the way ummm I won't ever play campaign mode for Halo mainly because I can never look at Master Chief the same since Pete Wence (the fall out boy faggot) made that comment about Halo.... omg... I can barely play online after that....

No. If it was a more 24-like thing, I'd be totally into it, but it's just a bad way of telling you to go from point A to B.

Where is that story... I mean the 3 halo games build up this epic battles and all and you really feel like you're saving the universe but I mean... really? I've played through all the halo games pretty recently and I can't say that I could sum up the story. No offence the games are awesome and I like the story, I just fail to see it.

I can't say I am a big fan of the actual story, however I am fond of the characters, design, factions, and feel of the universe.  In my mind, Halo falls somewhere between your average "near future" setting and a grander space opera fiction in the chronicle of human development.   In an imaginary timeline of my own creation, Metal Gear Solid 4 would start, then Halo and finally Mass Effect.  Anyway, I find Halo a lot of fun, but the story is rather bland.  Interesting characters, intriguing universe, aesthetically pleasing design...not a lot more, though.  I think there is a lot of failed potential in what we've seen in the Halo fps games so far.

What a stupid question ... of course you aren't the only one. Why else would they release all of those novels ^^

If Killzone had a story half as good as Halo it would have been a 5 star instead of a "average" 4 .. in my own view

Which is a ripoff of what Sci-Fi films have been doing for years.

The story is what made me like the Halo series. Halo1 and it's plot twist and the whole purpose for the Halos' creation wowed me. It pretty much created the best answered-mystery in gaming history. Plus, with all the back stories of the Spartan project, the Covenant, the Forerunners, the UNSC, and John himself--the Halo series, and the universes that it takes place in, is EPIC.

I like Halo's story OK.  Actually went through many of the novels, some of them were dismal, and none were great.  It's not why I like Halo overall.  It's a pretty great game.

back when i first got halo 2 i would spend about 60% of my time jsut playing the earth missions and then delta halo. and the other 40% would be assorted multiplayer

i have always gravitated towards single player more and i think halo's story is part of why i love it as much as i do

No, they shouldn't be obliged to do anything of the sort.
