I got an iPhone 3GS for christmas and was wondering if anybody knows any good games I can get for it. I'm not too bothered about price or genre.
Any Good iPhone games?
Here's my list of currently installed and often played games.
Sword of Fargoal - great dungeoncrawler, revamped version of the old c64 game.
Civilization Revolution - just as the console game.
Cluedo - Nice remix of the boardgame. Randomized missions makes it very replayable.
Dungeon Hunter - Diablo II lookalike. Quite fun.
Doom Resurrection - On the rails shooter. Great if you love the Doom 3 world.
Doom Classic - Yep, yet another port...
Oregon Trail - A classic!
Real Racing - Was the best racing game on the iPhone until Shift came along. Atleast supposedly, I haven't tried Shift yet myself.
Space Invaders Infinity Gene - One hell of a great game! Space Invaders redone right.
Wolfenstein RPG - Turnbased wolfenstein. It's great.
Ravensword - RPG in the veins of say... Ultima IX.
Dragon's Lair - THE laserdisc game to own. Actually beatable this time around.
edit: I just remembered, TouchArcade got a 2009 list. Might want to check it out. *click me*
Aiee. Someone else just asked this exact thing earlier in the week. Here's what I told them-
Eliss - This is the game that validated the iPhone as a gaming platform and its quite timeless. Its a simple puzzle game where differently colored planets appear and its your job to put them in the correct space, in the correct size, without touching any of the other planets. It starts out simple enough, but thanks to its fantastic use of the multi-touch surface (seriously, Eliss requires a lot of fingers) its almost like playing intergalactic Twister. It's also incredibly charming to boot and is always my #1 recommendation.
Canabalt - Simple, stylist and incredibly addicting, Canabalt is one of those games you'll pick up many, many times for just a minute and get a ton of gameplay out of. You control a man trying to escape from ... some kind of crazy disaster and your only control is to jump. It sounds too simple to be awesome, but it really has to be seen to be believed.
Space Invaders Infinity Gene - A different take on the Space Invaders Extreme series, Infinity Gene is great on the iPod since it can use your music to create unique stages.
Freeverse Skee-Ball - Probably the most addicting iPhone game out there. It's really, really ridiculous how this simple game can consume people. Super easy to play, very rewarding stuff.
The trick to iPhone games is not falling for the games trying to emulate what you'd find on consoles, or even the PSP. This means avoiding a lot of the EA and GameLoft games, even though they may be great, primarily because they'll drain your battery in a heartbeat. What you want to look for to get the most out of it as a gaming device is to look for unique games that could really only be done on a multi-touch mobile. Games like Canabalt and Skee-Ball are perfect examples of this: unique, bite-sized games that are perfect distractions and don't eat your battery.
So that you can, you know, still use it as a phone :)
I've tried these and had a lot of fun with all of them:
Bookworm, Canabalt, Drop7, Fieldrunners, Geared, geoDefense, Lumines, Metal Gear Solid Touch, Peggle, Rolando, Soosiz, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, Unblock Me, Words with Friends, and Zen Bound
I really liked Wolfenstein RPG and Peggle. Both are pretty darn fun and are the only games I actually play too often on my phone. Once you beat Wolfenstein there isn't to much reason to replay it, but it was only 3 bucks, so I think it was worth it.
In Peggle, I wish I could use my iPhone data for xbox 360 achievements. I have played way too much peggle for iPhone. Definitely a good game.
