Constantly troubleshooting each and every game on PC has always made me love consoles. At the end of the day if I can have a flawless experience that is not interupted by wasting time looking for solution to my PC gaming issues then I am happy. Consoles forever, less cheating, less troubleshooting, more consistent experience all around.
Anyone else feeling "done" with consoles?
Yes OP, join us in PC gaming. You will be given a instant sense of entitlement since you will of course have the best version of every game and mods built just for you. You get to go online to look down on those dirt farming peasants who play consoles and mock them for their supposed next generation graphics. You even get to watch porn on one of your other monitors as you own monsters playing the Witcher 2 with maxed settings like a boss.
Been planning on building a decent rig for a while now. Don't see me playing on console much after that.
Still can't forget about the console exclusives, as well as some games I would just prefer to play on console. There will always be room for consoles, as far as I am concerned. Even if PC will be my main gaming platform.

This is remarkably close to how it works.
As someone who already spends enough time hunched over a keyboard, the comfort of being elsewhere on a couch with a controller in my hands will always be my go-to solution. Having adapted to the gamepad over the years, I'm convinced that I prefer the tactile sense of squeezing a trigger and the feeling of rumble feedback for just about any game. Games such as Gears of War are especially built with this console experience in mind, while similarly the flagship Halo made thumbsticks viable and virtually evolved modern shooter design to focus less on twitchy precision pixel hunting or having to turn around 180 degrees constantly.
@GunstarRed
""I still have far too many problems with a lot of PC games running the way I want them to. Its definitely gotten much better, but I don't want to have to mess with settings and things when I just want to play a game.""
i cant say its gotten much better, worse really, so many times there isnt even proper settings on the pc version to mess around with, why on earth wont devs even give us the same choices we used to have with settings? really lame imo
I agree PC is the better bet now but once the next gen consoles come out it will be back to shitty ports and only a few PC games really streaching the hardware. Its only because this generation has gone on so long that developers are suddenly releasing much better PC versions of games and PC games in generally are looking that much better.
At the moment it is really easy to make a PC game look way better than a console, come Orbis and Durango and suddenly it won't be and developers will stop putting in the effort because they don't sell enough games to make it worthwhile.
Also whatever people say, the ease of use argument still works for a lot of console owners. Some people just want to put in a disk and play and not worry about installs, drivers, viruses, sitting on a couch, connecting to T.V., portability, what settings etc etc. I know to PC people these things seem no hassle but a lot of people just don't want to care about it.
Lastly cost. At the moment I can get an Xbox for £110 with a huge catalogue of cheap games and pick up a old computer for next to nothing for work, internet. This is still way cheaper than a PC which is going to make a noticeable difference.
I'd love to have a fat PC but I don't know if i'd give up my console for it.

I've considered repeatedly what I want to do next generation as far as consoles or PCs go. But every time I start to go down that rabbit hole and consider the flexibility of PC gaming, I always remember that it's really not some walk in the park like many PC believers claim it to be.
1.) You have to use Windows - A matter of personal preference, but I find the interface and responsiveness of the platform to be frustrating and Metro is certainly doing nothing to fix that. Not that Mac OS doesn't have its flaws, but for day to day computing, it's Mac OS all the way for me. Consoles certainly haven't been moving toward a positive user experience as of late either, but I also don't use them for day to day work.
2.) Software and Drivers can be a real pain - Steam has helped to alleviate some of these problems, but whenever a game comes out, you just never know the what is going to happen. Starcraft II ran perfectly when I first picked it up. Now when I play it there are graphical glitches. Diablo 3 plays with a stutter. Why? Blizzard doesn't seem to know and the only fix seems to be using old graphics card drivers, which cause problems in other games. Pair those sort of compatibility issues with being forced to download random game clients from every game publisher who wants their own distribution service, irregular and non-standardized DRM policies, and you end up having to deal with a lot more crap than any console user ever has to.
3.) Building a PC is expensive - Don't tell me it isn't. I know you want to, but it's true. Drop $300-400 on a console, plug it into your tv, and you're good to go. Build a PC, and if you want one that will match the hardware that comes out for the next generation or surpass it so that you've future proofed yourself for a few years, you're easily going to double or triple that number. There is nothing wrong with that. Some people enjoy that sort of thing and have the money for it, and once you're past the initial investment, you can upgrade piece-meal. But when you consider a lot of us need a mobile computer as well, owning a laptop and an expensive desktop isn't ideal. I don't have the funds or desire to keep a PC up to date.
What I really want is a Steam Box. All the power and flexibility of PC gaming (Such as the ability to slot in and out upgrades), at an affordable price with a straightforward interface. At least that's what I would hope it would be. Since that doesn't exist though, I'm sticking with consoles for the foreseeable future.
I think this sums it up pretty fairly really.

Yeah, everybody knows you have TWO screens playing porn while playing The Witcher 2.
That way, depending on what part of the game you're at, you ostensibly have THREE screens playing porn.
Right, exactly. It's an advantage of controllers which is often wrongly conflated into being considered an advantage of consoles. Consoles do have advantages, but they aren't inherently capable of doing anything which can't be done at least as well on a PC. Obviously, because they're essentially just limited and standardised PCs.@Jimbo said:
@GrantHeaslip said:That rarely happens here though, at least not seriously. They're usually only treated like idiots if they try to claim that the advantages of a console are anything other than cost / ease of use / handful of exclusives. Those are totally legit reasons for choosing to play on a console, but for some reason that isn't enough and we're all expected to perpetrate stupid myths like "Consoles are better at racing games and fighting games and etc!", when they clearly aren't at all. Why do we still need to do that? Do console gamers really need a pat on the head to feel ok about their purchase? Probably not. They shouldn't give a fuck about what I think about how they play games, but at the same time they shouldn't need to make shit up about how consoles stack up against good PCs in order to justify it to themselves either. The people that hate PC gamers are a tiny (if vocal minority) -- much more common, I think, are people that are sick of being told that they're idiots for playing consoles.
No, controllers are better for racing and fighting games. That's inarguable. Also for games that involve a lot of runny jumpy climby or mashing attacks out, so basically character action games.
I'm "done" with they way consoles have been lately. I severely miss 4-player co-op split screen and Lan parties (many modern games for consoles don't have these features.)
Of course, many modern pc games lack Lan and split screen, but if I'm sitting on the couch, I want to be able to play others locally, dammit!
I gave this console generation a shot. I own both a 360 and a PS3, and I have to say that every single game I like on either of those systems has been done and done better on the PC. I won't be touching the next console generation. Granted, keeping a gaming PC up-to-date with the best technology can get expensive. But if you can afford it, consoles are child's play.

We didn't have these problems during the 90s.
I have no idea whether or not this is a parody.
Oh, I'm sorry, there's no such thing as games being turned into FPSes just because they sell better on consoles.
Games don't have forced multiplayer, why would that be a thing.
There are PLENTY of the games PC gamers like being made! Why would there be a problem?
Just 2 years ago I distinctly remember a Bombcast where the entire crew was basically saying "yeah, 4Xes are dead forever, we are never going to see classic RPGs again". The only reason that's being proven wrong now is because this godforsaken console generation has gone on for so long, that developers are going back to the PC because they're tired of working with 7 year old hardware.
So please, link to your circlejerk wiki harder. Maybe you can invoke Godwin's law? Surely THAT will invalidate 7 years worth of evidence.

It's the only way I can feel anything now!
Not with consoles per se, but I can't help thinking how much better a game would run and look on more capable hardware. Still, I follow the games.
Its hard to tell tbh.
It all depends on what exclusive titles come around with this generation. The PS3 in particular I feel like my purchase was justified with Metal Gear, Flower, Uncharted and others. The 360 not so much, though Shadow Complex and Fable 2 were great experiences.
I was a straight no to new consoles but now they've announced a new Metal Gear, I'll at least end up with a PS4 (unless they do the unthinkable and make a PC version)
Pc is and always will be king. I should be sensible and say no to the consoles because I get far less mileage out of them compared to most gamers, but hell, I like games.

I didn't say there isn't a problem, but what are you asking for? For us to say "oh yeah, you're right, I'm so sorry!", take a sledgehammer to our consoles, and buy a gaming PC? My issue with your post is that you're basically blaming people who don't like the same stuff you like making there be less of a market for stuff you like. You're probably right about the causality, but you're wrong because you're asking for millions of people to change their habits to suit yours.
I'm not really into the PC genres, I'm perfectly okay with not having the best graphics, and I generally like the trend of streamlining PC games (not only because they work on consoles, but also because I don't enjoy complex menu and stat-heavy games). I don't like 4X games or complex WRPGs, and while I'll be sad if they die off, it won't change what I personally play.
I agree that there's too many FPS games, and I'm not a big fan of online multiplayer. I also think that too much DLC, yearly releases, and shitty content restrictions are bad, but (with the exception of forced certification) those things would probably have happened even if consoles didn't exist. I grew up playing PC games, and there's things I remember about PC gaming that I'm very fond of, and hope live on.
"Why is everybody so mean to us! You fucking bigots!"
"Because you've destroyed everything I like."
"Well I guess you want me to break all my electronics!"
This is why nobody takes you seriously.

Obviously I wasn't actually suggesting you wanted us to break our consoles, just asking what the point of your post was besides venting.
I also went out of my way to meet you halfway even after you went out of your way to be a dick to me. It looks like that was a waste of time.
"Halfway" to you is saying "yeah, I don't really give a fuck if the genres you enjoy die".
Wow. And I'M the dick.
Have not really done anything with my xbox or PS3 in a long while, I have fully transitioned to the PC. Borderlands 2 might change that as I have a bunch of friends who are getting it on the xbox.
I've barely played any current generation consoles, the only ones being a 3DS, and I haven't played any proper 3DS games on it either. the next console in a distant second is PS3, and I haven't played it in at least half a year.
though I don't have the means to buy them all the time, I have now primarialy gone to PC, and aside from the Borderlands free weekend and the occasional Arkham Assylum, the only things I play on a regular basis are TF2 and Microvolts, and even those are waning in my recent playtime of them. I suppose this is what happens when a collective generation of people begin to mature.
everyone saying they're "done with consoles" is probably going to buy the new xbox and playstation when they come out. sure you feel confidiant in that statement now, but when they start showing them off your PC starts looking a bit less awesome.
i also love how everyones going "you can hook your PC to your living room TV!". thats crazy impractical....
Nope, I love my PC gaming and spend most of my game time there, but I still like console gaming, too. I like kicking back and playing on the big screen with no worries about set up. Ease of use makes console gaming still attractive for a lot of titles.
Im not done with consoles. not by a long shot. Question, would you rather buy AC3 on PC with all the stupid bullshit DRM, or just play it on a console? Honestly most of the time if i have the option of getting a game on PC then ya i will choose that, but some times the PC offering is just a shitty port of a game that was made from the ground up for consoles. also Microsoft are assholes and wont release forza on a PC so until that happens i kind of have to have a xbox.
