If Apple were to create a Games Console (home system) what do you think they would bring to the table over other companies?

It would definitely be the prettiest looking console. Other than that, I can't think of anything.

Would be interesting, but I don't think it would suit apple to enter the gaming market as nintendo has it's audience covered.

Well, first off, the D-pad would be replaced by a clunky click-wheel, which has absolutely no reason to exist, and somehow translates clockwise to down and counter clockwise to up.  The last thing Apple wants is a simple control scheme.

Also, they'd release a new one every couple months, and stop supporting earlier models, forcing you to buy the new ones.

Their ad campaign would be "Dude, 360s and PS3s are for nerds.  Don't be a nerd.  Get an iPlay."

I am a Mac person and I can't see how they could bring anything genuinely unique or must have to the industry for gamers.  They should just partner with Nintendo and make the most awesome home console ever.

It'd cost $2000 and look awesome but just be a N64 emulator.

If Apple made a console, it would definitely be a good looking console. I reckon they also would, like the iPhone, release the SDK for it, to allow people to create their own games and distribute. Although I would hope to god that they would have a slightly tighter grip on what gets let through, as the App Store is a fucking shitmine.

@Mezzotint: Apple did design a gaming console that Bandai manufactured way back in '95. It was called the Pippin. As fat as current gaming console then I don't really think they will try getting into that market, the Big 3 have their hands firmly in that market.  The iPhone is Apple's gaming console.

@Mordukai: I reckon we'll see it in about two years, after all, Apple have been hiring gaming executives left, right and centre lately. Though even as a mac user, I would be very skeptical about it.

@CandleJakk: A a mac user myself I'll be skeptical about it too. As I've said before, I firmly believe that the iPhone is Apple's gaming console.

I believe they could make better use of themselves by teaming up with someone else, like Sony. I highly doubt that Microsoft would (Obvious reasons) and Nintendo to my belief seem to keep to themselves.

Ow and I didn't know about the  Pippin, sounds like something the Angry Video Game Nerd should cover.
