I know that one would not be allowed to discuss ROMs and such on the forums.. but does MAME fall under a different catagory?..simply because there aren't arcades everywhere..

Sure, why not?  Just don't link any download websites.

First rule of MAME is do not talk about MAME. Now with the Obligitory Fight Club reference out the way I can start. I'd love to build my own arcade cabinet, the arcades here in the UK just aren't the same as they are in the US.

Well, I believe MAME is what the Giantbomb staff used to play that Jackie Chan ( Fists of Fire) game for that video.

They tend to be full of those 2p machines, you know the ones where you put 2p's in and they knock over 2p's over the edge, and full of slot machines. They rarely have arcade machines in them and if they do they are never good ones.

I've never been to the US, but I'm pretty sure the arcades in Japan are better. I went there last year and some of my favourite times was just lurking the many arcades, seeing all the crazy games before making my way to the fighter section where dozens of guys, some in business suits, all hunched over Tekken 6 or Street Fighter IV chain smoking.

It's an arcade game emulator.

Oh. Well I don't see a reason we can't talk about it. Not like anyone is pointing out sources to get it.

MAME is awesome... my cousin has a self built cabinet in his garage. Took him about half a year to get the parts but my god is it worth it. Must have cost him a fortune. Street Fighter 2 looks incredible on it, and he fitted the arcade with 4 joysticks and buttons.

Some of my favorite MAME games would be Guwange, MvC: Clash of Super-Heroes, Darkstalkers: Night of Warriors, Batsugun, Tank Force, 19XX: War Against Destiny, Battle Bakraid... oh god too many good ones to name.

And if i were you I'd definitely try and make my own MAME arcade!

Just don't link to rom sites or anything illegal. Talk games all you want.

As for the Jackie Chan, I tried to find the game after I saw the quick look, since it would've been a blast to play with drunk friends, but I couldn't find it. Oh well.

My favorite Mame games are probably the shmups. I haven't played very many(if any) bullet hell shmups on Mame, but the ones that are there, are win. And of course, MP games like the brawlers(Final Fight, Sengoku, Combatribes, lol), and standard fighters are great with friends. I've thought about building me a cabinet and throwing a PC in there with a few sticks, but I like the idea of simply having them on my laptop and being able to hang out before a show and play with other bands.

To Seedofpower - from Wiki:
MAME is an emulator application designed to recreate the hardware of arcade game systems in software, with the intent of preserving gaming history and preventing vintage games from being lost or forgotten. The aim of MAME is to be a reference to the inner workings of the emulated arcade machines; the ability to actually play the games is considered "a nice side effect" . The name is an acronym for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator.
