This was announced this morning, Art Gies of IGN (and RebelFM/eat-sleep-game) is leaving his job, but has stated that he isn't leaving the games press, or the Bay area. Any ideas what he might be doing next? What are the chances he would come work for Giant Bomb?
Arthur Gies Quits IGN
He does tweet at Jeff regularly, especially during conventions and whatnot. They no doubt know each other, and Gies really admires Jeff for his work and he is possibly his role model since he usually holds him in high regard when he mentions him on Rebel FM. He also mentions Giant Bomb and the Bombcast from time to time, moreso than his cohorts on the podcast I mentioned he was on.
I ono, maybe I guess. I personally don't mind him. His head is quite shiny.
I don't visit ign, but I read his goodbye letter. Sounds like he's moving onto bigger and better things. Considering he works at ign, manning a hot dog stand could be considered bigger and better things.

I'd love for him to come here but I don't see it. I'm curious where he ends up though.
I'm with this guy.
Arthur is undoubtedly my favorite 'journalist'(writer? whateverthefuck) outside of Giant Bomb. Say what you will about the man, but he knows his shit.

I only speculated because of his statement about staying in the games press community in the Bay area...which doesn't narrow it down TOO much but hey, this is the site I use and I thought I'd put it out there. Honestly as much as I like Arthur I don't know how well he would fit with the style of this site.
@Sanj: For a sample of his work, he did the Deus Ex review for 360 http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/118/1189591p1.html
That sucks for him. I'm not really a fan of how much of a dick he can be about stuff he's passionate about, but he sure knows his stuff. <3 Arthur Good luck.

Just a few months ago, I would never have guessed I'd be saying something like this, but, well, it's been a crazy few months. Today is my last day at IGN.
Wow. That was harder to type than I thought it'd be.
I'm not being let go, or pushed out, or anything like that. I've received an amazing opportunity that I just can't pass up. Sometimes when you get older you realize that to grow both professionally and personally you've got to make changes, to take chances outside of a comfort zone. This is one of those times for me. I'm not going to get into where I'm going in this blog post. I don't want to be disrespectful of the people that I've grown to care about enormously at IGN, and I don't want there to be any harder feelings.
I gave my notice to my superiors two weeks ago today, and I've tried as hard as I can to do the best work I could in the time I've had remaining here. It was really gratifying to be able to go out on a review note with a game like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, both because of how inspiring that game is and because of how proud I am of that review. I'm also glad to be able to have helped bring so many of you Halo Fest at home, which was the most difficult weekend of my professional career.
I'm excited for what my future holds, but I'm also melancholy about leaving the big family that IGN has become for me. This is one of the most difficult decisions I've ever made. I love the people here, and I care about IGN as the institution that it is. I've learned over the past two years that IGN is not the site that so many people assume it is, assumptions formed a decade or more ago that haven't really applied for a long time now. It's not a monolithic thing. It's a collection of people with thoughts and opinions that bust their asses more than anyone else out there to make things happen, that are brought together by their desire to do awesome shit about things they love. I will miss being a part of tha t more than I can explain to you here.
All that said, it's just about time for me to sign out. I've got a couple more things to do today at IGN, and then I'd like to hang out with friends that I'd damned well better see again, and soon. I'm not leaving the Bay Area. I'm not leaving the games press, and I'll be able to disclose elsewhere shortly where my new home is. If you'd like to know the answer to that, then go ahead and follow me on twitter at aegies (the only plug I'll allow myself here). And thank you. The IGN readers and listeners that I've met and interacted with have been amazing, and I'm flattered and humbled by the things you've all said. I hope I never let you down.

Whoops. Sorry Jeff, I was just excited/curious!
I've listened to Rebel FM from the start, because it originally involved a few 1up-expats plus guests that used to work for that site before the great purge. Arthur can be a dickhead, but he's a likable dickhead. Considering there are so many people out there trying too hard to be funny or entertaining, it's nice to see a guy be himself, even if that means a little on the dry side. But he's genuine and he knows his stuff. He's knowledgeable and isn't afraid to get into a debate.
Good luck to him.
But what will happen to Podcast Unlocked?! Who will call Casey Lynch on his bullshit? Fuck.
I've always admired how outspoken he is. Hope he's heading somewhere good.
In terms of editorial, Giant Bomb is at the right size right now. Patrick added a very different dimension to the crew with news and exploratory journalism, there isn't a gap like that to fill anymore (hush, PC enthusiasts; I like PC games too, but it's too much for a team of 4 reviewers).
Wasn't he at Irrational? He used to do the Irrational podcast.

Not to be a dick, but i don't see him fitting in with the GB staff. I have listened to Rebel FM since it started, and Arthur can be a dick and a big fanboy at times. Granted he does know his shit.
But i just don't see him fitting in, he just comes off as way too serious about things, unlike the GB staff who are much more relaxed, and humours.
All the best of luck to him.
Arthur, while seeming like an asshole to work with, is an extremely competent writer and obviously loves (and is very knowledgeable about) games.
IGN will have a tough time filling his shoes, but I can't say as I'm surprised. If you ever heard any of the podcasts he was on, he did not appear to fit too well with the other staff.

He worked at IGN so he must suck. No thank you.
So I take it you are massive fan of Gamespot then?

We're like Noah's Ark for game journalists.
More like the field of dreams for game journalists.
You are thinking of Shawn Elliot or Chris Remo.Wasn't he at Irrational? He used to do the Irrational podcast.
Speaking of the irrational podcast; new episode out today!
