Oh man, how much for the Battlezone license? Doesn't matter I'll mortgage something. Make it back on those hot Battlezone lunch boxes.
Atari Entering Bankruptcy, THQ Hits More Bumps in the Road
@Giantstalker: Absolutely! A great studio like Relic doesn't deserve to be pulled down into this financial cacophony that is as threatening to them as it is affecting THQ. I hope the entire studio can pull out of this intact, and continue to deliver great games like Company Of Heroes 2.
@Akyho: Well if it makes you feel any better they're taking preorders for it at walmart Lol. was just there and saw the little pre order gift cards.

Yes yes that's all fine and South Park will be great and all that, but man.. The possibility that Atari will go mobile only is scary shit. In that event I hope they'll make a ton of money and put some of them back into bigger games, cause... Look where that got them. Imagine if it was sega at some point.. EA presents street fighter, complete with sega on disc dlc model, missing "true ending", origin account required, online pass and servers being shut down every other two years..
You mean Capcom, because Capcom owns Street Fighter.

I just want Relic to not go under. I still dream of a new Homeworld game...
I don't think THQ ever owned the Homeworld IP, which is why we never got Homeworld 3. If I've understood things correctly, Activision acquired Sierra in 2008. And just like EA likes to do with their acquisitions, they closed down Sierra shortly thereafter, but most likely still hold all the IP rights. If they continue in EA's footsteps, I predict Activision will soon launch a digital storefront to compete with Steam, and it will be named Sierra Homeworld.

Company of heroes is now a first person shooter, south park gets cancelled, homefront who cares, saints row is now a gritty cover based third person shooter, darksiders ceases to exist as a franchise and I am sad. To show you how sad, here's a sad face :(
Don't despair, we'll get Titan Quest Kinect Adventures, a mini-game collection with dozens of hilarious family activities, also, Red Faction PartiiU, an exciting board game featuring all your favorite Red Faction characters!
Someone gets rich, someone gets burned and someone wants revenge. When did this become an episode of Storage Wars? Cos and we all know how that shit show turns out. Actually I'd watch that show.
Guess Atari just can't help itself doing this kind of stuff, it's in their DNA *scnr
But the whole thing with THQ hurts... really sad to see them go and i'm not only saying that as a shareholder. Less competition is always bad no matter what and i'm not really looking forward to a future that's dominated by a few mega third-party publishers, sadly that's exactly where we seem to be moving right now :/

While i'm interested in the south park game so i hope it ends up well i'm more looking forward to Metro last light, I sure hope that still gets released and a decent publisher picks it up, i would hate for it to just dissapear or the new publisher wanting to make changes.
I doubt any of these games are are at least half way done are going to disappear or get changed all that much. That would just cost the new publisher more money. And if they get these IP's at a steal they are just going to be looking to put them out and make as much as possible.

Hope South Park comes out.
And company of heroes 2..
South Park will come out, because THQ do not own the rights for that game. It was a publishing deal only. As for Company of Heroes 2, it's a bit more up in the sky. For it to come out, a new publisher would have to buy the studio and the game, which is highly possible, because CoH is a series that traditionally has sold really well.

I just don't want relic to go to EA or Ubisoft. Oh for all that is holy, please not them.
Ok, Activision then.
If its gonna be anyone I want it to be Square Enix.

Wouldn't it be dumb if EA bought the Test Drive name and released Need For Speed: Test Drive and it was a Burnout game made by Criteron?
A+++ POST WOULD READ AGAIN
(I have nothing constructive to add).
This all sucks. Especially when you hear in other news what powerhouses like EA are doing to take greed to a new level. The next-gen talk on last weeks podcast was kinda depressing as well with all the talk on future prices.
Why was the thread discussing this under Atari deleted? Not sure if it was a user or a moderator. Sad that regular news sources like ABC News were discussing this 24 hours ago and the team here certainly didn't miss putting up the video/story about Elder Scrolls Online hours before this came up but then again they're getting paid to run ads for that.

That sounds like the best possible scenario for that franchise. It's been a long time since that IP had any legitimacy.
EDIT: I don't care what they call the next Criterion game, so long as it gets back to the same sense of speed and 60 fps I'm happy.

on the whole id be pretty happy if Sega ended up with Relic, i can imagine them having pretty good autonomy under Sega, unlike some other publishers i could mention, plus with their Warhammer connections that could make dealing with GW perfect for both parties.
if the article that was posted earlier is to be believed then things might just end up all right for the developers i care about (essentially Relic, Vigil and Volition)
