I made a thread a while back about this topic a while back and I just read an article that simultaneously fills me with happiness and dread.
Firstly: Link
The happy part:
So the basic jist is that Stephen Conroy - our communications minister - went to Google asking for their co-operation with the whole internet censorship thing he's got going here and they told him to suck it. Three cheers for Google.
Now the first thing that really grabbed my attention in the story was that Conroy had the sack to directly compare what he's trying to do with the filtering in China. I mean does he honestly, genuinely, truly think in that walnut sized thing he calls a bran that what China is doing is something to aspire to!?
A few minutes after reading the article, though, there was still something nagging at me and when I went back I saw it straight away and I couldn't believe I didn't see it the first time. What is it? The items Conroy was asking Google to restrict, specifically from YouTube.
They are NOT just censoring illegal content such as child porn. They are NOT holding back on the content they're restricting. They ARE trying to turn the internet into a child's playground. But the RC classification extends further to more controversial content such as information on euthanasia, material about safer drug use and material on how to commit more minor crimes such as painting graffiti.
What in the flying FUCK are they thinking!?
