I really liked Friday the 13th for the NES. Once you figured out what you were doing (and that if you stood between the J and the A in Jason's health meter he couldn't hit you) it was fun to explore and upgrade items.
A game called Strike Commander from Origin is my eternal shame. It was a "flight simulator" with an amazing storyline that was set up in the huge manual. The flight mechanics were evidently programmed by rabid apes but the story was compelling enough to keep me going for hours on end. I didn't know what bad games were in the early nineties, I just thought always thought I was doing something wrong.
For me, Rumble Roses on the PS2 is the quintesential "guilty pleasure" game.
Perhaps one day, we'll finally have compelling gameplay to go along with all those questionable, half naked cowgirls and space alien airline hostess cyborgs. : p
It had nothing to do with the books pretty much, anything interesting was done storybook style and the majority of the game seemed to be doing ridiculous obstacle courses to get to your classes... and you'd have to go on stupid missions for people and got to have firecracker fights with Malfoy. It made zero sense, but around the time it revealed there was lava about two feet away from Hogwarts I decided it was quite a funny game if you took none of it seriously and just laughed at all the craziness. It was kinda fun in an inexplicable way.

It was a very deliberately designed game much like Lost Planet 2 is, but it was wholly unenjoyable for most people who played it (including myself) for the generic combat, janky controls, and horrible storyline.
i liked the james cameron's avatar game simply because i fucking hated the movie and loved torching the planet and the trees and blowing away the tall blue guys and shit. plus, your boss was colonel campbell.
i had a blast with advent rising. the weapons, the psychic powers, the style were all really cool. i wish i could be remade as the game it was originally going to be, though, because they cut out [i]a lot[/i] of shit and rushed it out. shame, too. otherwise it could have a shot at a sequel.
