Saw this article on twitter and thought it might be worthy of discussion. In an interview in this article Braun talks about plans to launch three more sites based on the Whiskey Media brand. Relevant quote:

This will be a big year for the digital side of the company, which will launch three YouTube channels, three new AOL sites and at least three other sites on the Whiskey platform.
Braun described the start of this year as "about the craziest couple of mothns Gail and I have ever had in our careers."

So what do you think about Braun's move here? What sites would you like to see? Since they are lacking in video game coverage maybe they could just buy the Russian Giant Bomb site.

#2 Posted by JasonR86 (9653 posts) -

Probably a music site. Maybe a digital store. I don't think a book site would work very well. I imagine they'll try to make a gaming site to fill in for Giant Bomb.

#3 Posted by Aronman789 (2676 posts) -

Wrestling site, I'm calling it.

#4 Posted by Pie (7073 posts) -

I would love to see them attempt to make a gaming site

A whiskey site, a media site and a site about bombs.
Obviously.

I want them to launch "RivalVideoGameWebsite" for realz!

now THAT would be fun!

man i REALLY hope they make a videogame site. that would just be GREAT. They could even hire the interns to be the staff.

Think of what gamebomb.ru could accomplish with some money behind it and the Whiskey platform.

I was really hoping this was going to be a porn site. I am now disappointed.

I am not surprised at the move. The Distillery, the publishing platform that Whiskey Media created, was most likely the primary focus of the acquisition. With that, BermanBraun can pump out websites a pretty quick pace now.

Where's our booze wiki? Actually, I think people could find a real use for a site like that.

I don't know if they'll necessarily be Whiskey sites in theme and tone. They could just be sites developed using the Whiskey platform.

What worries me is that the fates of Screened and Anime Vice haven't been made explicit yet.

I suppose I'm guessing about this now that I don't sit next to all those dudes anymore, but when they say "platform" they mean the tech behind-the-scenes that runs Tested, Screened, and Anime Vice. Not necessarily things that are marked with the Whiskey Media logo/brand.

To be fair: gamebomb.ru is not very good. But I like the illustrations of the guy in the red T-shirt.

@Jeff: You know, I've had a bit of time to get used to the fact that you guys are no longer in the same building as Will, Norm and Matt...but it still bums me out :(.

My thoughts exactly. Just hire an American or British crew to hit the Western market (or better yet, get Grant and Tory from Mythbusters), and soon we'll be rolling in Speedy Ganders, Marathon Plays, Friday Evening Fisticuffs, and 'splodecasts, featuring Wrestlewolf and Hip Infant.

I can't wait to hear them discuss zany subjects like calzone cubes, create memes like "I'm a Paladin, and things seem askew", and answer e-mails while drinking from a Pringles can.

Considering what most of Braun's content is, my guess would be a TMZ styled gossip site, one focused on being a teen-mom, and one for promotion of some new shitty upcoming SyFy property. As for what I want to see? Nothing. I'm tired of five mega-content sites owning every site on the internet (VOX, AOL, etc - I'm looking at you, too).

Probably, the back end tech was the big reason bearmanbrawny(however its spelled) bought Whiskey, yeah? So I'd imagine that they would use some version of it on any new sites they make. Probably convert a bunch of there older sites to it eventually as well.

The Whiskey platform is awesome but I came to Whiskey Media for the personalities, not the tech behind it so I don't really care.

Aye. Seems like that's a given, seeing as there's absolutely no Whiskey Media branding on The New Tested. The Whiskey platform, but not the name.

Which tends to be corporate speak for "Say goodbye to them." What worries me is that movies and anime are basically the only two other things that really matter to this demographic. I can't see what other sites Corporate would want to open up.

I don't think it's about our demographic. They bought the technology that runs the Whiskey websites so that they can build more websites off of them, but not necessarily to make websites that cater to the Whiskey audience.

Yeah. I'm getting that now. So then, we're probably losing Anime Vice and Screened and gaining nothing.  Probably. Probably. I don't know though, and, of course, can't know what's coming.
