Best new character of the year?

So I was thinking I've seen two new characters debut this year that I really really enjoyed. The first was Caius Ballad from Final Fantasy XIII-2 he has to be one of the best Final Fantasy antagonists in years. Liam O' Brien voicing him was just the icing on the cake and what really helped sell his character. I just recently finished up Resident Evil 6 and by far Jake Muller is the best character in that entire game. I see a ton of DMC 3 era Dante in him. He is always cracking jokes and knows he is that damn good and lets everyone know that he is. I really enjoyed Jake and especially his dynamic with Sherry.

So who are some of your favorite new characters that debuted this year?

Asura? Sure, he was over the top, but he goes through such an arc from the intro to the end of the DLC. Great visual design, as well. Plus his interactions with Yasha, to his full on rage moments, to his wife and daughter... I dunno, I found him quite memorable.

And if Best Anger really becomes a category, I just want him on everyone's mind coming into year end.

Yasha from Asura's Wrath, the space robot cowboy god.

Labrys from Persona 4 Arena. Even though she's not actually "new", she's a well developed character that manages to fit in with the cast despite being yet another robot girl.

Also, I think one of my favorites would be Martin Walker from Spec Ops because of the psychological evolution (or decline, rather) that he goes through in the game.

I'd like to say Kat from Gravity Rush, but to be honest, I don't think she was that great in retrospect. Innocent and strong young lady would be my description for her, but nothing that really stands out...

Dishonorable mentions:

All of the crap designs that were in Skullgirls.

There's so many to choose from, but to mention a couple that haven't been listed yet:

• Labrys from P4A. Atlus did a great job of bringing her into the story.
• Hades in Kid Icarus: Uprising. He's amazingly likeable despite being so incredibly vile.
• Actually, I could make arguments for Pit and Palutena, as well, given that Uprisng was the first game that they ever appeared in with actual personality.

I wish I could give the award collectively to all of the protagonists in Botanicula.

Barring that occurrence, I think the rabbit from "Hell Yeah!" has potential.

I also would like to nominate Kai Leng from ME3 as worst character, although his presence in Mass Effect novels may exempt him from the running.

Tiny Tina

Can I just nominate all of the characters of Binary Domain? If not, Big Bo (or maybe Cain or Faye or Rachel god all of the characters in that game are amazing)

Also Joe from Devil Survivor 2 was pretty sweet, as was Fumi

A tie between Fidget and Tiny Tina.

I'm positive that nobody will have any objections to this.

The years not over and there's still a few new characters in games that aren't out yet.

For instance, Connor in Assassin's Creed 3 could be a really cool fleshed out character. Or the villain from Far Cry 3

Sid Meier in XCOM

Clementine.

It's a toss up between Skullmageddon and Clementine

Started playing Asura's Wrath today, without question, Asura is the best new character. For someone who is just screaming 75% of the time, he is fucking awesome. I would make a argument for Clementine but right now my vote is for Asura, can't wait to finish it tomorrow.

EDIT: Also from the game I enjoy the characters of Augus and Girl, Augus and Asura share the level of the year (Chapter 11) which is in-fucking-credible and Girl for not speaking a lick of english has the same effect that Clementine has on me in that I actually care about the character.

Labrys was awesome of course. Also I liked Juliet Starling but I seem to be in the minority for her.

Labrys is amazing.

Wei "Motherfucking" Shen from Sleeping Dogs. is pretty lovable too.

Let's not forget about the Beagle and his key role in the Tokyo jungle story.

Honestly, I liked Dan the most. How he delivers all of his lines, serious or silly, are simply SPOT ON.

It's definitely Lee & Clementine combo.

Captain Walker from Spec Ops: The Line. No question. I've never seen such good character development in a video game.

The people that said characters from Asura's Wrath frighten me. It was a good ridiculous game with a silly story, but god damn those are not great characters.

While I have no love for RE6 Jake is a great character, but Nick in Lollipop Chainsaw is probably my favourite new character in any game this year... oh, and Face McShooty.

Also Hailinel is spot on about the characters in Kid Icarus... I'm an idiot for not mentioning them.

Lee. I love Clementine but she's not particularly interesting, the dynamic between her and Lee is one of the most powerful emotional hooks in TWD.

I would vote for Clementine as best new character. She has been the reason I want to keep playing Walking Dead. Dust, Lee, and Wei Shen were also great characters.

Also, I would vote against Tiny Tina. She might be one of the worst character of the year. I think most people would agree that writing was not Borderlands 2's strong point and Tina might be the weakest part. If anything, Handsome Jack was much more compelling.

As for the worst new character of the year, I would vote for Diana Allers.

I just realized I can't think of a single new memorable character from this year.
